a) The Dr Hadwen Trust
b) http://www.drhadwentrust.org.uk/
c) The UK's leading medical research charity funding exclusively non-animal techniques to replace animal experiments, benefiting humans and animals.
d) This is a great charity actually trying to make a difference to all of our lives, not just specific diseases. Support this charity and you're supporting research into helping to cure and understand cancer, stroke, diabetes, brain damage, rheumatism, MS and a whole host of other life-threatening and debilitating diseases, helping to really make a difference to a person's life without needless animal experimentation.
It's a win-win situation! :T
"Scientific medical research uses millions of animals each year. These experiments can cause pain, suffering and inevitably death for the animals used in them, for results that are of dubious relevance to human health. Animal experiments are an inefficient approach to medical research in a modern world."
"Experiments [on animals] are wide-ranging but can involve poisoning; disease infection; wound infliction; application of skin/eye irritants; food/water/sleep deprivation; subjection to psychological stress; brain damage; paralysis; surgical mutilation; deliberate organ failure; genetic mutation and associated physical deformity; burning; electric shock, forced inhalation and death."0 -
Care for the Family
www.careforthefamily.org.uk
Strengthening family life & helping those hurting through family breakdown.
Care for the Family do hugely important work - they promote marriage and stable family life, they help those whose families have broken down. They run special projects for those widowed young, those who have lost children, they run heavily subsidised holidays for single parents which are a lifeline to many.
They also run initiatives on 'drug-proofing' kids and raising financially confident kids, a new project which needs funding.
Their work is vital to improving family life in the UK and therefore making some small change to the economic climate. They receive no funding from the government and are a very small charity. Please help.0 -
The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC)
http://www.nacc.org.uk/content/home.asp
Colitis and Crohn's Disease Research and Support Charity
Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and affect 1 in 400 people in the United Kingdom. Both diseases are chronic (ongoing – no current cure). Crohn's disease affects the small intestine and ulcerative colitis the lower colon both causing inflammation, ulcers and scarring to the wall of the intestine. As a result the function of the bowel is impaired and symptoms which can last for years include pain in the abdomen, urgent and bloody diarrhoea, continual tiredness, loss of weight and depression. I would like to nominate this charity because the embarrassing nature of this disease means few people are aware of it and yet many are affected. The (small amounts) of money that the NACC has and uses for research are producing fantastic results to learn more about the disease and look for a cure and any further funding will really make a difference to this charity.0 -
a. The Official Name of the Charity.
b. A link to the Website of the Charity.
c. A desciption of no more than 8 words of the charity - this is crucial, its what will be used to describe the charity in the vote.
d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be supported; whether that's for your personal reasons or more generally.
A The Family Fund
B. http://www.familyfund.org.uk/
C.Helps families with disabled children to have choices.
D.Family Fund gives grants to low-income families to meet the additional needs of caring for a severely disabled child.Items can be requested, like toys or much needed kitchen appliance or computer as well as a small grant to put towards holidays. I am a single parent with a autistic son, this is totally overlooked in terms of extra help, Its a really difficult situation and the family fund helped me last year and for that i will always be grateful and hope to help someone else.0 -
1. Website: www.stroke.org.uk
2. Medical charity, campaigning informing and raising awareness of stroke
3. A STROKE CAN HAPPEN TO YOU - it is a brain attack. Its effects on the family as well as the stroke survivor can be devastating and anyone can have one. It is the third biggest cause of death and the largest cause of permanent disability. The Stroke Association works really hard in the community supporting families with home visits, emotional support and practical help such as communication groups. However there is not enough support for all the people who need it - in some parts of the country there is no support once a stroke survivor has left hospital.
It wasn't until I sat beside my aunt (only 47) who was left with only two words after a stroke and saw on her face the sadness and frustration she was feeling that I felt strongly that more people need to be aware of this debilitating condition.0 -

1) The Rose Road Association
2) http://www.roseroad.org.uk/
3) Provides schooling and services for children with disabilities
4) My son Jared goes to school at Rose Road and they provide a wonderful environment for children that are severely mentally disabled, allowing them to have somewhere to go that is a home away from home, where he can mix and learn with other children with similar disabilities and problems. There are very few places where a child with Jared's disabilities can safely go without his parent (me) being in attendance, let alone where he can learn and enjoy himself! Thank you.

http://donnasdreamhouse.org/
The Donna’s Dream House Charity
is a locally based trust providing
sponsored free holidays of a
lifetime in Blackpool for children
and teenagers with life-threatening
illnesses and their families, and
for recently bereaved siblings and
their families.
As Donna’s Dream House is operated by volunteers only, the administration cost is about 1% to cover legal requirements of the Charities Commission. So 99p of each pound raised is used to provide the holidays and accommodation costs plus related support work. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0
