Slow Way Down, for Cancer Research UK

Vintage Tractor Trip -John O'Groats to Land's End
We have just driven from John O'Groats to Land's End in two vintage MF135 tractors to raise money for Cancer Research UK. We have done it as a tribute to my younger brother, Edward Nott, who died of a Brain Tumour in 2002. Our fundraising target is £30k and we are currently at £28,500. We are approved fundraisers for Cancer Research UK.
We know that you have supported Cancer Research UK directly in the past, but would you consider supporting 2 tractor nuts who have just braved all that an English summer can throw at them to drive 900 miles??0 -
a) Streetwork UK
b) www.streetwork.org.uk or www.bebo.com/Streetwork-Youth
c) - Working with those at risk on the streets
d) Streetwork is out there on the streets of Edinburgh every night of the year, in all weathers. In the city centre they look for the most vulnerable and give them crisis support, making sure they are safe and helping them to access emergency accommodation. In the housing estates, they educate young people to help them stay off drugs, away from crime, and to make better choices about sexual health. Streetwork guides every individual towards a better life, education, training and job opportunities. Streetwork also runs a young person's financial literacy project, helping the most vulnerable minimise debt and manage budgets, giving them the skills to handle money with confidence.0 -
a. Carers UK
b. https://www.carersuk.org
c. the voice of the UK's 6 million carers
d. There are 6 million carers in the UK, providing unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. 3 in 5 of us will become carers at some point in our lives, often out of the blue. Would you know where to go for help?
Carers give so much to society, yet they experience ill-health, poverty and discrimination, with 1 in 5 carers giving up work to care resulting in greater isolation and financial difficulty. Carers Benefit is currently £50.55 a week, yet carers save the Government a staggering £87 billion in the care they provide. Carers UK aims to stop this injustice, to help carers get the practical, financial and emotional support they need. We provide free advice, guidance and support to carers at all stages of their caring role. Your support will help us be there for when you become a carer.

Creating life opportunities for underprivileged slum children
Angel Covers is a completely voluntary charity; no wages, no overheads and no bureaucracy. Every penny donated goes straight to helping children living in extreme poverty. The main project is in the Nairobi slums, which are considered as the worst in the world. As well as providing an education for hundreds of children, the project also provides food, nutritional supplements, medication, healthcare, clothes and emotional support. They also teach life skills, including money management! They empower the children by improving their self-esteem, particularly the children who have been severely abused and neglected. They support parents, especially single parents, to set up "micro businesses", where they are taught to run their own business. This gives the children a better home life and food when they are not at school. They are saving lives...they are changing lives...they are giving hope to thousands and changing attitudes and perceptions in the surrounding slums. If Angel Covers are fortunate enough to receive a grant, you can be assured that it will ALL go towards improving the lives of these beautiful children and giving them an opportunity to make something of their lives.
If anyone orders books via the internet, please go through the link above. Angel Covers Uk gets a small percentage of the sales...and it doesn't cost you a penny. This income pays for any bank transfer fees, which are about our only expense.0 -
a. Police Pensioners Housing Association Ltd
b. www.narpo.org/PAGES/LINKS/ppha.htm
c. Provision of sheltered accomodation for retired police officers
d. This is a little known charity that provides sheltered accomodation for retired police officers, their spouses, widows or widowers of state pensionable age. At the moment there are only 2 sites situated in West Sussex and there is a waiting list for suitable applicants. The association relies upon donations to be able to purchase suitable accomodation as they become available. As all of the properties have 24hour alarm cover they have to be connected to a Central Control and this also costs money, however this is incorporated in the rents charged. The oldest tenants at the moment are
96 years of age and a communal meeting hall enables companionship. The Police Service in general does not assist this charity and if the panel decided to support it, it would assist greatly.0 -
Volunteer led Arts Centre, creative opportunities without boundaries. I would like to nominate Letchworth Arts Centre as it provides great creative activities for the community, for people trying to break into the industry and for families and people just wanting fun.
That said it is a serious charity that aims to involve the community and everyone in it regardless of ability in its activities and operation.
It does this with a largely volunteer staff; it provides opportunities for people who can’t find work and for those with learning disabilities. These volunteers work alongside community minded teenagers and retired people who generously give their time. It provides a safety net for those interested in the arts without the need to access higher education.
It also champions the needs of young people by providing a safe environment for evening entertainment. It showcases new young bands and musicians aged 12 years old upwards as well as budding comedians and theatre groups.

FareShare
http://www.fareshare.org.uk
The National Food Charity
FareShare works with the food and drinks industry to relieve food poverty by providing quality food and other support services to organisations working with disadvantaged people in the community. The fit-for-purpose food they redistribute contributed to 3.3 million meals last year, that's 4,000 tonnes of food diverted from landfill.0 -
A) AYME (Association of Young People with ME)
http://www.ayme.org.uk/
C) Provides support, information and friendship to young people.
D) This is a charity which receives no Government funding, relying solely on donations and the fund raising efforts of the members, families and friends. Members suffer from ME, which, though recognised by W.H.O is largely misunderstood, misdiagnosed and mistreated. It is operated by the young people themselves, with a small staff of adult executives. The symptoms range in severity, leaving some individuals bedbound or hospitalised, whilst others lead relatively normal lives with some constrictions. The charity provides medical, educational and financial advice, and also has a support worker who will travel to assist those in need. Membership is free to young people, but there is small fee for Link membership to families and friends, and for that they provide a bi-monthly magazine with articles contributed by the members themselves. This charity provides a Lifeline to those in need! I speak from experience as my son has had ME for 7 years. He is 17 now.DMP mutual support thread No: 433 - Mortgage - £54,556, Credit cards - £4012, Unsecured loan - £3,376, Other - £419
