a. ARC - Aid for Romanian Children
b. http://www.arccharity.org/
c. Alleviating poverty and suffering in Romanian children and orphans
d. This is a small charity run by a few individuals who work tirelessly in their spare time to help some of the most underpriveliged and impoverished children in Europe. They feed and clothe hundreds of children, as well as providing nappies for babies in orphanages and hospitals who would otherwise have to go without. Roma families are an underclass in Romania, with most Romanians discriminating against them and this has led to deep poverty, with few chances in life for the children. This charity works on many levels, not just the basics such as food and clothing, but working to improve housing conditions and healthcare, as well as encouraging self-esteem and motivating them to make their own lives better for themselves. They run summer camps every year, where many children will experience the carefree joys of play and childhood for the first time, bringing a bit of freedom and happiness into their otherwise pretty desperate existences.0 -
I would nominate;
A) The Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisationhttp://ogwen-rescue.org.uk/
C) Volunteer Mountain Rescue Organisation
D) These guys and ladies are real lifesavers, at the first word they race to the location of an injured person, often 3000ft in the mountains in terrible weather conditions perform first aid and rescue operations. They are unpaid volunteers, receive no money from government and survive purely on money donated by others. In April 2005, when the call was received, one of them raced some 5 miles across the mountains of Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia. My father had fallen 50 feet from the peak of Tryfan suffering fatal injuries. 7 hours later and with the assistance of over 30 volunteers and the RAF, my Dad was recovered, sadly he did not survive, but for others they are true lifesavers, and real heroes.
They also provide training for others, first aid, mountain climbing and other lifesaving activities, but always need more funds for new equipment and services.0 -

Demelza Hospice Care for Children
www.demelzahouse.org
Registered Charity No.1039651
Providing care for extremely ill children.
Demelza provides respite, palliative, end-of-life and at-home care for terminally-ill and life-limited children, and bereavement support for parents, across Kent, East Sussex and South London. It currently has a hospice near Sittingbourne, Kent, with another under construction in south-east London, whilst the at-home care is based near Hailsham, E Sussex. This is the only charity to provide such care in the region and it is stretched for both funding and capacity.
I became aware of this charity due to a fundraising event taking place soon. As a parent, it never ceases to choke me up when I read about the difference Demelza and similar charities can make in the lives of children whose lives will be cruelly cut short and their families whose lives are irrevocably altered.0 -
I'd like to nominate the UK charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
www.hearingdogs.org.uk
Providing assistance dogs for severely/profoundly deaf people
This UK charity trains mostly rescue and unwanted dogs to become registered assistance dogs for deaf people. The dogs alert by touching the owners knee and leading to the sound if it is safe to do so. Many people say these dogs have given back independence, confidence and companionship when the loss of hearing or hearing impairment had started to mean social isolation, family stress, employment problems and depression. The charity relies totally on public support, receiving no statutory funding and making no charge for their service. It costs over £5000 to train each dog and the charity supports both the person and the dog throughout their working lives together.0 -

a. Kidney Research UK
b. http://www.nkrf.org.uk/
c. Research on prevention, treatment & management of kidney disease.
d. This is a personal one for me as I was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy in November last year following a random blood pressure test. They do not know what caused the disease but my kidneys are rapidly deteriorating and will probably fail entirely in 6 months or so. I am lucky enough to have family members willing to be tested as live donors but there are many people out there who have to wait years on dialysis without hope. I am 27 and while my peers are planning major travels or career progression I am planning my transplant. I would like this charity to receive the donation as they will hopefully one day find cures for all Kidney Diseases.0 -
