Help..unsure what to do!

Options
Okay..Ive just been to morissons, whilst there doing our weekly shop i suggested to the OH that we ger citronella candles for the garden. We get to the checkout and i see a citronella oil torch, so i suggest this may be cheaper. I went o the aisle where the oil is..on the top shelf was bottles of the oil, one had a 'Was £1.99 now £1.49' sticker on it..so i decided to get that. I picked it up off the top shelf and moved it towards me..on doing this the oil went all over me!! All over my hand and on my coat and on my boots. As i turned to show my OH what had happened he starts telling me no to bother as the oil is dangerous! So i went straight to Customer services..i told them what had happened and stood there covered in the highly flammable, toxic oil. They said to go wash off my hands/arm..i did and yet could still smell the oil. They then said it was reduced because the lid was broke and should have not been on the shelves at all as someone knew the lid was broke thus the reduction!! They then rang the mamager who said to go get my clothes cleaned and then take the reciept into the store and get the money back. I just paid £6.30 for a taxi home as was no going on the bus as terrified it would make me combust. I got home and got in the shower fully dressed and stripped whilst in there..i scrubbed and scrubbed to make sure all was gone. Now, im asthmatic and have excema both of which is not good when covered in that stuff and my 6yr old had just moved from my side, if he hadnt then he would have got it on his head!! To me being told to go and pay for cleaning to then be reinbursed is not good enough..i have the managers name and number but not sure how to word it..help please!

    Do I understand this correctly?

The shop apologised, explained that it was a mistake and the item shouldn't have been there, and the manager has offered to pay for your cleaning costs.

If this is the case, what more do you want? I think the shop has done everything correctly.

Well the £6.30 it cost me to get home would be a start!

  • If you explain to the manager that you had to take a taxi home and how mauch it cost I'm sure that he would offer to reimburse you this cost as well.

Ah yes, the bus - that well known source of ignition, if it wasn't for that pesky critter the fire brigade would have far less troubles.

When you take your cleaning bill in just tell them that you also had to pay £6 for a cab. I'm sure they'll be fine about it.

Not sure why you are posting on the "vent" board, it sounds as if they were really helpful

I agree, it sounds like Morrissons were really good about it. Get your clothes cleaned, take the receipt in, get the money back, job done.

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Am I hearing this right? This woman was covered in a falmmable LIQUID and people are telling her to get a life?????

WHAT? I was once covered in diesel (another oil) by a faulty Sainsbury's pump a the fuel station. I was offered no help by the pump attendant who wouldn't let me use the Lav there as it was just for staff. I was covered in fuel and en route to work. As i work in a high risk job (On an aircraft) I was sent home from work.

I wrote to Sainsbury's MD who sent me a cheque for £150. Now, THAT is more like an apology.

I wouldn't hold my breath with Morrison's though. They really aren't THAT interested in Customer Service. Write to the MD. Google will find his name and address for you.

I have eczema/asthma and I can understand where the OP is coming from. If it has caused your eczema to flare up I would go to the doctor and see what they say. I think the reasonable thing to ask for would be hours lost worth of wages for doctors appointment and prscription costs. Apart from that I would get your clothes dry cleaned to make sure it is all out and then ask for the taxi fare too. If you feel this has caused you a medical problem maybe calmly speak to the manager and explain the situation in full. Or write a letter to h/o?

Hope you get what you need :)
