Have to say that this is one of the nicest Daily threads I've read in a long time, why? Because of all the newbies who maybe felt to nervous to post before. Lovely to see all the new faces.

TM do you buy fresh pollack, and if so where ? Fishmongers or supermarket ? I'd like to buy pollack for the same reasons you do but I've never seen it in Tesco. No fishmongers in Worcester:(

Hi Y'all, again! I've finished reading the thread now what a nice experience it was, tidier, neater and easier to read. I've enjoyed catching up on all the oldies gossip and loads of newbies to get to know too (hi). I notice TM is still talking a load of old POLLACKS as usual, some things will never change. LOL:rotfl:

I have seen frozen pollack in Lidl and in places like Iceland and Farmfoods etc.

Had a chuckle at the explanation of the term "vastsarah"

Hello and thanks for the giggle:j

  • Re: pollack - if you don't have a fishmonger, Tesco sell it as Value white fish. I suspect it's not pumped full of water like Value mince or chicken breasts, cos pollack's cheap to begin with - but I stand to be corrected! Anyway, I'd had a pack of it in the freezer for some time (picked it up reduced to about 10p a couple of months ago) and made a yummy fish pie out of it a couple of days ago with a bit of salmon added.

yesterday someone said they would like my chilli bean hotpot recipe
    here it is
fry chopped onions, peppers, chilli and garlic in large pan
add a tin of cannelini beans, a tin of butter beans, a small tin of red kidney beans and 2 tins chopped tomatos
add some veg stock and simmer for ages
serve with rice and crusty bread

sorry it's a bit vague but it's easy, it freezes well and tastes good

    it's easy to adapt too
ie use chilli powder or fresh
courgettes are good in it too

I'm enjoying the autumnal weather, my washing is drying outside and smells great :D

  • I picked up a couple of cards in tesco`s today. New baby and congrats to new granny but woah said me when I saw the price. Over £5 for the two, now that is a rip-off. I didn`t buy but came home and dived into my card making boxes. I have made two lovely cards for pennies. A metal butterfly and some delicate chalk and not a lot of effort

Try nice buttons and cheap thin ribbon and chalk and cotton buds or cut-out motifs and stick them on card then mount on a poppet (sticking-up sticky backed thing)
  • Afternoon all,
Really enjoyed the thread today. Haven't had an OS day - fought with the doctor's receptionist, had coffee with a friend - 2 cappuccinos!!! - and then hit M&S to buys 2 shirts and a tie for my godson who has a weekend careers thing with the Navy and has to wear a suit all the time. Anyway I offered to do my bit towards the kitting out. Then I went to Waterstones - bad news!!!

Beavers tonight which means tea is always up the spout - do I feed the kids separately before 6pm or all eat together after 8pm. I'm trying to get up the enthusiasm to do something that isn't pasta and a jar of sauce for tea. Oh well back on track tomorrow!

Sympathies to all the little OSers with probs at school - ds1 was upset today because his art was condemned by the teacher for not being realistic enough (how true this is I don't know!). I pointed out that dh and I were happy tha\t his academic subjects were good and that neither of us are artistic. "But I want to be creative......." So I had to resort to saying that probably his teacher can't make coffee cake like he can - who'd want to be a parent!!

How about this for OS ... I've customised Johannes pressie - not saying anything else incase she reads this before she gets it :rotfl: DD is currently decorating some brown parcel paper to wrap it in with fireworks apparently, complete with soundeffects :rotfl:I thought I had some gold wrapping paper left but I haven't :o Sorry Johanne!!!

To all the new members to this thread : Welcome, pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink and help yourself to cake or biscuits (all homemade of course ;) ). Make yourself at home and don't be afraid to add your 2p :D We won't bite honestly :D

Right, better shift myself and make some tea - beans on toast I think  Will try out my new cheesegrater (other one died a death by snapping in half the other night  ) and make "nanna beans" - should make OH feel better.

See you all tomorrow and I'll pass on the best wishes to Johanne
