  • Hi to all the newbies and "returnees" :hello:

I'm glad to see that the DT is getting back some of its sparkle. We'll be back to normal in no time.

After my post this morning I found a recipe for the chicken and I have adapted it to incorporate some of the tinned toms. The great thing is that it's one of these "all in one pot" recipes so less washing up. :T :j Just hope DD will eat the rice though.

OS is definitely going to become the norm in my life now. DS brought home details of a trip to France next year. The cost? £265. DD has brought home a letter from school each day asking for money for one thing or another. £2.20 for a local trip, £80 for a residential trip, £12 for SATS books, the list just goes on and on. So, I will have to save money where I can and doing things OS will definitely make an impression on my monthly shopping bill. I'm even going to try and grow some veggies in my wee back yard. How OS is that?

    Afternoon All,

Just back from the school run and taking 5 mins "feet up time" before getting the dinner on.

Made a lovely curried parsnip soup today which I had some of for lunch, it had a very strong flavour but was DELISH so have asked DH to grab some more parsnips at the market on his way home.

DD2 has just come running in naked from the waist down VERY proudly declaring she'd done a w** w** on the toilet all by herself. Giving that I'm not training her yet, shes just turned 2 on the 1st sept, I was sceptical but it turns out shes has :T. Hopefully its the start of training for her soon then and I can stop wasting money on sodding nappies all the time. I've worked out that I have wasted £2178 (approx obviously) on nappies and wipes in the last 4 years . If thats not an advertisement for washables I dont know what is!!

I have made a chickpea curry for tea, kids will be having chicken, broccoli and potato faces for dinner, rice pud for afters.

Lovely blowy day here again so I have had 3 more loads of laundry dry, ought to get on with ironing and putting away of it all really.

    TTFN,
    AL.

Extending a warm welcome to all our new visitors :hello:
    Happy, happy Birthday, Johanne :bdaycake:

For those who are jumping ship, may I ask that you take time to think things over? It's all got very emotional but it's all a matter of applying common sense, surely?

Well my friend was thoroughly cheered with the magazines and the freebie energy saving lightbulbs I took over :D I on the other hand was given free plums from their plum tree :j :j :j Not suitable for eating, but I have lots of ideas/recipes I can make them into.

Disappointed at the Farmers Market (there's a permanent one on the way) waiting a good 5 mins for the butcher to return to his counter so I could get some delicious lamb - couldnt' hang around longer or I would have been late, so resolved to stop off on the return journey instead.

As it turned out, discovered a wonderful massive Thai supermarket :j My foodiebraincells thought they had just died and gone to heaven!
Got a huge bag of lentils, kaffir lime leaves, almond oil, coconut oil, rose water, some sundried banana's (going to give those to the boys for their lunchboxes) some fortune cookies (haven't even seen those locally and not had any since I was in New York) also for their lunchboxes periodically ;) There was soooooo much to tempt and dither and decide upon! Fortunately, I'm going back over on Monday for a sloe harvesting session so I think I'll have a good nosey through my Thai cook book and write out a shopping list :D (Diets are *meant* to start tomorrow ... on a daily basis, right? )

 Just been to the hospital - after over a week of wondering what was wrong because the cardiologist had said he wouldn't see me, just write if everything was ok. Turns out the MRI scan was perfectly normal and he didn't know why I had been given an appointment (didn't say why he hadn't written though). My ECG abnormalities are normal for me!

I'm so cross though, DH and I both had the afternoon off work, he had to buy a ticket to another station and we had to pay £2.50 to park and we also had tea in the cafe because we were early, not to mention the petrol - about £15 wasted on a 10 second appintment.

DH got a piece a choc cake with his tea, I had a taste and wasn't impressed and then noticed it said on the wrapper best before 19th January 2007:eek: . I knew there was a reason for making my own cakes.

Hi Kerrygold and welcome from one noob to another:wave: . Plum sauce sounds lovely, do you have recipe please?

    Sue

    Woohoo! :j

    Hi Susie,

I'm sorry for my delay. I'm at work so have to be brief! Basically I boiled up a load of plums in water with something like 6oz soft brown/demerara sugar till everything was mush. Then I sieved the fruit lumps/stones out and then boiled the water/juice some more and thickened with cornflour.

Just need to wait till our friendly mental butcher decides to give us 3 duck breasts for £1 again then yummy!

No-one got any suggestions for flaked salmon and prawn sauce with pasta? DH won't eat mayonaise and I thought just cream could be a bit dull.

    Help!
  • Thanks to everyone who's PMed me today - nice to be missed! :A

Nothing sinister in it, I've been at w*** (got my new laptop btw), but as I mentioned, I also have a new place to sit. Previously I had my back to a corner, so could do some sneaky catching up and posting. :D Now I have my back to the office, and don't know who's looking over my shoulder. We all have reputations for being able to move around stealthily!

On the OS front, since I got home I've eaten 2 HM jam tarts (filled with HM rasp jam), put HM liver and bacon hotpot in the oven, dug some carrots, fished homegrown sweetcorn from the freezer, given away an item on Freecycle, spoken to the chooks, planned my FLC III for later, and begun to knit my wholemeal yoghurt. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Off to a school event later (healthy school) roadshow, then a glass of HM apple wine before bed. ;)

I've read the first 2 pages, but it doesn't have the same buzz. Please bear with me, I'll reply to the PMs on Thursday (next day off w***), and there's a few people I'd like to PM, too. However, is it my imagination, or is there more "thanking" going on? Is thsi making up for the lack of "mentioning"?

DD has just come in to make me a cup of tea (loose leaves, obviously)

    Take care, Penny. x

Welcome Furrypig, g'day all other os'ers,

I will soon be making my easy peasy spaghetti carbonara for dinner, now I am so busy with study in the evenings I like quick but still HM dinners.

At lunchtime today I found a perfect pair of Italian leather shoes in a charity shop for just £3, I had been looking for some brand new but this way have recycled, helped charity and saved money so I'm pleased as punch.

Not too much cleaning to do, we've been making a real effort to clear upm as we go along or do a short blitz, and it makes a real difference.

    Have a good evening all,
    sarah x
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)
  • Ooooh, stuffed full of HM apple sponge and custard. I was going to have some HM potato and leek soup for lunch - but when I went to warm it up, found I had defrosted stewed apples by mistake :o Never mind ..... :rotfl: *note to self - remember to label all items that go into the freezer*

thriftlady (I think it was) I get my pollack from Lidl's (or Aldi? I get confused LOL) You get about 6 decent sized fillets for about £2 (trying to remember cos it's a while since I got any) Anyway, it's very reasonably priced for what you get and it makes fab fish pies. Sometimes I just grill my fish with cheese and tomatoes on top - it's nice like that too.

MATH - virtual slap on the bonce for you!! :rotfl:
