  • hiya everyone.

Busy day at work again for me doing paperwork. I'm fed up of the boss again, as he collared me at the end of the day to say he would need my laptop from me when i start my maternity leave. Ican understand his point of view, but it will be a real pig for me to empty it as the C drive is almost full of my teaching resources, i will have to put them all back on next summer taking yet more time, and it will interfere with my surfing the net if i need to while baby sleeps/plays. That is the biggest inconvenience. I have been looking on the dfes website, and i can't find a good reason why i should keep it, but it is peeving me off because another teacher left, and just took hers with her, and i will only be off 11 months.

    Rant over.

I have a day off tomorrow for midwife, so i may be able to do some OS stuff. I need to do some ironing as i have lots of baby clothes still on airers, and i need to sort it out.

Will have to stick the BM on tonight so we will have some for packed lunches to save some pennies. Like Vicky, i only managed a cup a soup at lunch cos its cheap and cheerful. The new timings of our school day means we only get 35 minutes for lunch, which means you haven't a lot of nibbling time.

Just wanted to say, a very happy birthday to johanne, and welcome to all you newbie posters. I too have enjoyed the diversity on the thread today, and have been educated on the joys of pollacks/

Nicki - if possible could you say what you gave johanne tomorrow???? It's my littlest sisters 21st next month, and i am struggling a bit with what to get her. I want something different, and i know you come up with lots of good ideas on the xmas thread.

    Hugs to all, :o

    Evening all

I must admit to finding todays thread much easier to read, much more enjoyable, all a matter of personal taste I'm sure but this works for me.

Really nice to see so many newbies too - hello to one and all....

    Happy 21st Johanne...hope you've enjoyed your day.

After attacking the ironing pile with gusto I've got 2 t-shirts of mine that have some sort of oil/fat stain on - they've been washed and line dried so the stain is fairly baked in....any ideas how to remove them????? I don't keep any sort of stain remover in the house, I've got some soda crystals, would a soak in that work?

Builders have gone for the day - they've dug up half the garden for a "soak away" - I'm tempted to ask them to dig a bit further along to make a veggi patch for me :D Might be a bit cheeky but hey - they've got a digger - not as if it's back breaking for them.

Tonights menu has changed from pasta to HM wedges and sausages, us girlies are in need of some comfort food.

Blimey, I go away for the weekend & look what happens ;)
Had a lovely wekend away in Girona, sampling the tapas - Mmmm. Fortunately it was all so cheap I didn't have to keep stopping myself from exclaiming "but I could make that for 20p"!!
Today has been a dead loss really - flight was delayed so didn't get back til 2am & I'm a girl who needs her sleep.
Just been to Tescos to stock up, am planning to make some leek & potato soup tonight, and tomorrow's tea is going to be vegetable & goats cheese risotto, which I had in a restaurant a few weeks ago & it was yummy.

I'm another "lonely eater" - work committments often have me staying out overnight, so I will frequently take a book or magazine into a pub/restaurant. It bugs me when the waiter/ess sits you facing the door though, so everyone who comes in see you sat there ALONE. I might get a T shirt saying "Actually no, I haven't been stood up". You get used to it after a while. If you feel really self conscious, make a point of asking for a receipt which implies you are on business and you're not choosing to eat alone! I think you are even less conspicuous eating alone at lunchtimes, so go on try it!

Hope you're all well - for a worker from home like me who doesn't have any colleagues to chat mindlessly to throughout the day, this thread keeps me sane.

    Happy Birthday Johanne!
  • I've found the thread much easier to read today too :T and although it started a bit gingerly I think people realised that nothing major has changed except that lots of peeps that had been a bit wary of joining in have jumped in and said hello, it all adds to the mix and it's just great :j :j :j

I don't know if written 'rules' in a sticky are needed to manage the thread, all the noobs will follow the example of the regulars and all will be well.

I hope the regulars that have stepped aside for a while will hurry back because they will be missed and this is where they belong.

    :T :T :T

I can hunt down Moggins if she doesn't reappear soon, I know where she lives. That'll surprise her (and probably scare her half to death lol) :D

Nothing OS to report, cept I'm having HM stew for tea. Mr troo will have to make the dumplings because I'm rubbish at that :o

  • I agree with Apprentice Tycoon, Pooky and Math, I am finding the thread much easier to read and enjoy. Tbh I just gave up with the way it had been getting lately. it is still really chatty, friendly and bursting with useful info and advice :T :T

Just enjoyed a really lovely leftover-pork curry, going to have fresh pineapple in a mo which is a good thing to have after meat as it aids it's digestion.

Thanks to all who talked pollacks :rotfl: very useful -I've been unknowingly buying it in the form of Tesco value whitefish.
  • A big thank you to thiftlady because she has saved me buying the bread book that she bought today, it sounds like it's aimed at people that still buy their bread and need converting, and I too am an Imperial girl!
  • Hi

Went to tesco this aft to stock up on some stuff til monday, got some more flour for bm which is on at the mo so i am looking forward to some fresh bread:j

Not many bargains today:rolleyes: never is when im there:rotfl:

Lo fell asleep on the way home at 5pm, he woke up 20 mins ago, so changed him into his jammies and he is off sleeping again! no idea what time of the morning he will be up!

  • Pen-Pen, I'd noticed the increase in "thanking" and indeed had done a bit of it myself. I think its a nice idea and indicates that a person's message has been appreciated.
Pooky, re. the men with the digger - it won't cost you anything to ask, will it? Even if you offer to slip them a tenner that the boss won't see, it'd be worth it to save you the back break!

Getting back to the load of old Pollock, it was a bag of frozen fillets from Asda costing £1.66. It fed the three of us with some left over, still in the freezer, enough to put with some salmon for a fish pie, or just to combine with the leftovers of the next bag. Very good value, I call it! I poached it in the oven in milk with a little Oregano and served it with steamed new potatoes, carrots, green beans, broccoli, peas & sweetcorn (in varying amounts depending on who likes what!) and with a nice bit of parsley sauce. :D Even DS (7yo) declared it top notch grub, so not only good value, but successful with it! I shall definitely be repeating that experiment some time soon. :T
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

    Good evening everybody! :D

I don't post very often but I'd thought I'd give you an update in my life just in case anyone is interested. ;)

I have been temping and now have a 2/3 month long assignment which I think I'm going to love. It's being an admin assistant at the local council new children centre. I'll be doing "proper" admin stuff, rather than the filing I was doing at the local court house. My new boss laughed when I told her about that, because she is a magistrate at the court one day a month. My main job at the moment is setting up the office.

My job will also become a permanent one, but if I want to apply I will be joining the other 200 people who will answer the advert. Don't you love red tape. Hopefully I will become indispensable to my new boss and she won't be able to do without me.

The good/bad news is the office is in the middle of nowhere. So I really will have to take a packed lunch in everyday or starve. I shall be reading the OS threads on work, soup and packed lunch very carefully. I do have an excellent kitchen at work in which to prepare my lunch. :)

Will hopefully be going to the cinema this evening as I now have an unlimited pass which will save me lots of money and will mean i can be more flexible with what days i go. Rather than bargain tuesday.

    Happy O/Sing.
