Well, I can see that I'm not going to get anything done today as the postman has just brought me this big chunky book

Hi Allbeachbeth wrote:Do you really go in a cafe on your own? I wish I was confident enough to do this!
In my previous job I had a lot of overseas travel, usually alone. Faced with he choice of dinner in my hotel room or dinner in a restaurant (hotel or otherwise) I decided to overcome my self consciousness. So I used to take a book with me, and sit and read when I was waiting for my food in between courses. Sometimes, frankly, I would pretend to read it so I didn't end up looking as though I was staring hopefully round the room. (I didn't want to look as though I had been stood up).
Now I don't bother, as i'm no longer self conscious about this sort of thing. Well, except in a pub, if I decide to have a pub lunch. I still need a magazine or book if I'm in a pub on my own.
So, why not get a good magazine, pop into the cafe or coffee shop of your choice and let the magazine cover up your embarrassement. It's just a prop. You have it on the table, you read it or flick through it when you are feeling a little nervous of self conscious.
Overcome that fear! Just think of all those delicious coffees (and/or cakes) you could be enjoying!0 -

hello!
I wouldn't normally dream of posting on the daily thread, probably because I thought it was just for people who knew each other to have a chat, but after reading the comments yesterday I feel bold enough to show my face. The reason I don't post very often on any thread is that I don't feel I have anything to say that other people don't know already, but I do appreciate this forum so much despite my low count of posts!
Feeling a little bit lost now my youngest has started school, so I was quite interested to see what you all had planned for lunch. somehow it hasn't seemed worth making something for just me, so I just picked on things yesterday and was starving by dinner time!
also liked the idea of going on my own to a cafe one morning...it's something that I would never have done before having kids, and haven't had the chance to do since.weaving through the chaos...0 -

Welcome to old style.
I find that when everyone is out i pick at rubbish so i now make myself think of quick and simple stuff like poached egg on toast, cheese on toast etc.
I also sometimes treat myself to something in the local cafe and have a paper or mag to read if i feel a bit self conscious.
It is lovely to see all the people posting who previously were just reading the threads.:j"This site is addictive!"

Hello Phizzimum! :hello:
Welcome to the daily thread! I am on my own most lunchtimes and get a lot of ideas for lunch from this thread.
I also remember the lost feeling when my youngest started school! (((hugs)))

RIGHT - THAT'S IT!!!
I wasn't going to post today and didn't yesterday as I was so angry about what has been going on, but as I've said in the other thread just because I don't have anything OS planned for today I don't see why that should stop me posting and meeting new friends and hearing about there lives
So - as we are off on holiday on Wednesday evening I've had no chance to get anything done (darn having to work!), but I did manage to do the ironing last night and the big clean through was done on the weekend.
So the plan of action for tonight is simple. Go home, pack, get together all the paperwork we need, hoover the entire house and round it off with a takeaway as there is no way I'm going to now mess up my prestine kitchen before we go!
As you can see nothing OS today but in all honest I have gotten to the point where I just don't care!
As always take or leave the :grouphug: as neededYou laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
we met a very active tall and slender man on our holiday in Scotland. A lovely person with a great sense of humour. He hopped on and off the bus like an 18 year old and walked every day early and late. I could not believe it when he said he was almost 80.
I noticed that he had porridge every morning and didn`t drink coffee or alcohol. He liked soup for lunch and had a fantastically optimistic mind, in spite of being a widower and having a difficult son.
He is living proof of a healthy diet, moderate exercise and an optimistic outlook
So: I have stocked up on more oats and am aiming to make a good veg soup on most days. In other words it is very definitely clinging onto OS. It isn`t just about money-saving but getting old with a sparkle
PS I like this `new` thread0 -
Have a great time tinkerbell.
Knowing what you need to concentrate on can be seen as old style and would justify the takeaway perfectly.;)
Nice to see you posting>:j"This site is addictive!"

Hi peeps
Have never posted on the daily thread but pop in most days for a lurk. As a mere male I find it entertaining, thought provoking, and encouraging. I often pick up ideas for later use and freely admit to having OS tendencies even if OH has not. If any poster gets an electronic pick me up/kick up bum/whatever as a result this thread surely thats a good thing.
Hvae you noticed that a thread on The relationship board is now up to 1992 posts, 97 pages! And this got a mention in one of the MSE emails too as a good thing!!
I suppose I'm saying - don't beat yourselves up - and don't throw the baby out with the bath water. This is a useful daily thread - there are lots of frivollous in the 'Arms'
Hope you all dont mind the 4 pennorth.
Cheers0
