My finished wedding sampler, only problem is I can't find a square frame around here anywhere.
I have now started a sepia "New Arrival" and when it is done I want to stitch the names of my Grandchildren and Angel Grandchild around it.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -

Looks lovely! Well done!
Have you tried Wilkinsons, Ikea or Dunelm for frames? Remember that you can always remove a print if you can't find empty frames. I always struggle to find square frames, so I buy them when I find them, even if I don't need them yet. Charity shops might have some too.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Yes Ruth_honey I have tried Wilko's but has for Ikea and Dunelm, we don't have any near by. In fact we have NOTHING for frames near here! I will have to go over to Bournemouth for nearest Dunelm and Southampton for Ikea. I will get people to check car boots for me this weekend though, you never know.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0

Hi all, I have been thinking about doing a wedding sampler cross stich for my
sisters wedding at the end of August, a tatty ted one
For someone who has never done this before do you think that is too ambitious? And do you think I would have enough time to do it?0 -
Wasnt on yesterdat as spent most of the day backstitiching - eek! Just a little to go - I can see the finishing line at last!
Do any of you wash your work after you've finished? If so - what do you use by way of washing powder?
Ive never had to do it but this has got a wee bit grubby round the edges.
Any tips appreciated!
Mad frog - I dont thnk its too ambitious, just take your time. In terms of finishing by August - it just depends how much time you can devote to it. How big is it?

Hi jintyb
I always wash my work when I have done.. Me + mum have found the best thing to use is a drop of shampoo in warm water -it dissolves better than wash powder...I just swish the fabric about and then rinse in warm water. The best way we have found to dry it is to lie it on a pale towel and roll it up -then pop it down the back of a radiator to keep it rolled (it doesn't have to be on) . Once dry we press with a cool iron -through a tea towel, and then use wadding when mounting..
I bet you are really looking forward to getting your next project started :T
Right Im back off to my x-stitch now.... I will get to the end of this one eventually :rotfl:-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Thanks MrsM, great advice! Yes, Im dying to start something new, trouble is I cant decide - Ive got a load in my stash but I keep seeing stuff in mags/on line! One thing though, I'm not doing one which requires miles of blinkin backstitch!
Happy stitchng!

Hi JintyB, I use handwashing liquid for washing my cross stitch. It's always worth washing work, as it removes any sweat that may have come from your hands while you were stitching. Even though you can't see anything on it now, in the long term that can damage the colours much more quickly.
I just had to buy some washing stuff for my firescreen stitching, and got Ecover handwash liquid. I only used about half the recommended dose, and then rinsed at least 3 times. I iron it wet, between two fluffy towels and using a hot iron. That dries it out much faster (except when I forget to switch off the steam function on the iron...). I like the rolling idea though! Might try that next time.Live on £11k in 20110 -

I hated stitching Tatty Teddy. I've done 2 now and both times I switched the fabric to evenweave to make the backstitching easier. They look fab when done-can post pics if you like-but they are hard going. The shades of grey are very similar, so I guess you have the longer, brighter evenings to make that easier. But I did swear a lot when I was stitching them(:o) -I certainly didn't find them relaxing. Not to say I wouldn't stitch another, though! I'm sure I have several in my stash box. Which sampler were you planning on stitching?Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27
