Hi there all. I've never noticed this thread here! Saying that I haven't been on the site since xmas:eek:
I love cross stitch, i've just picked up my frame after a month or so of not touching it! I'm working on a WTP design, almost finished too :jjust some grass and tree tops and the rest of the back stitch.
Mrs M - I love the way u store ur threads, I have only brought kits so far so don't have spare skeins floating about but I need somewhere to put the excess threads left over. I will def use ur ideaTotal Debt at LBM - £19107.03Total now - £11091.220 -

When it comes to cross stitching, yes I have a lot of patience....anything else I have a short fuse lol£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -
poppet, do you only do large designs? They are wonderful and you must be very patient and determined to finish. I would have given up ages ago on such a big picture. That racing design looks like a painting.0

Hi,
I'm hoping that someone can advise me. I am happily working away on my first evenweave project, but am already looking ahead to the next big thing. This will hopefully be a gorgeous Nel Whatmore chart of poppies from Cross Stitcher magazine. I've had to convert it to DMC threads from Anchor, but my problem is this:
A lot of the design uses three strands of thread because it's on coloured Aida. I've never stitched with three strands of thread before, so I'm a bit unsure about this.
I am currently using the loop start which gives me a nice tidy back to my work. Is there any way of managing to start off a three strand thread that I can use, other than leaving a "tail" of thread and stitching over it? Having achieved a tidy back to my work, I don't want to go back to the tangled mess that I had before.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance,

Morning all
I'm loving seeing everyones designs -Poppet -I'm like you -the only time I seem to have patience is when I'm x-stitching
Not sure if I posted the pics of the 2 tigers I did for hubby when we first started seeing each other - he lived in the single blocks and they were grim -so I made hime these to make it a bit more personal.. they now live on our living room walls and are the 1st pics up when ever we move
I find I can get on with bigger designs with blending etc than with simple designs..although Im still working on the background of "in her garden" which is all half stich-but loads of blending and using 3, 4 strands at a time and loads of 1 stitch of this and 2 stitches of that :wall: ..can't wait to get this one done..and as we are now going home for xmas and its mums present -I ned to get my bum into gear:p
Sammr -you will be amazed at how quickly your thread collection will build up :T
Mountain ash-Im doing lots of 3 strand work at the moment and haven't yet come up with an alternative to sewing the tail in along the back
Right -off to get some of that bloomin background done-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Can I ask you what colour the aida is and what count it is? You might not need to use 3 strands. Maybe you could stitch a small area-about 5 squares high & across in 2 strands and another in 3 strands to see how much difference it will make. There's no way you can do a loop start using 3 strands. You'd just have to secure the threads under your stitching at the back. But I think you'll be able to just use the 2 strands anyway. I have stitched on navy aida (14 count) for a Winnie The Pooh design before and I think it looked fine with just 2 strands. Plus, you'll be saving a huge amount of thread!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Hi all,
Angela, no I don't only do large projects. There was a story behind the Horse Racing one....my father-in-law and step mother-in-law both turned 60 within a few weeks of each other and at the time we had just moved here and hubby was doing agency work until he got the date he was waiting for to join his current job so money was tight and we couldn't afford to get them much. I came up with the idea of looking for a chart with horse racing as they both like the races and so I set about stitching it. I think there were about 250+ colours in it so that took a while to get the threads I needed! I missed their birthdays and finally got it done last year for Christmas for them. They also said it looked like a painting and knew exactly where they were going to put it, so all my hard work was appreciated!
Mrsmcawber... your tigers are GORGEOUS. I bought my kit form the cross stich club I'm in but I'm not that happy with it. I don't think it looks realistic enough. I won't show my daughter yours or I'll never get any peace til I do one!£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0
