    Hi folks

Hope all you very knowledgable people can help me!! I have just got a christmas stocking to cross stitch for my little neices first christmas. Am a real novice (actually only ever done one small cross stich in my life!) and am feeling slightly intimidated at the moment but determined all the same!

Anyway, can anyone recommend somewhere I can buy a frame (you know the round ring thing that keeps the material taught, sorry dont know what its called!)

Also any other hints and tips will be greatly appreciated!

    Linz xoxox

    Hi Linz.

My little piece of advice is if you use a round frame thingy (I don't know what they are called either :D ) don't leave your work in it when you aren't working on it. Also try to get a big enough frame so that all the area you need to stitch on it visible and doesn't go under the edges of the frame at all.
I say this because I have a round frame thingy and I left a piece of work in it for quite some time. When I wanted to use the frame for something else the fabric I had left in the frame got stretched and out of shape.

If its a small project I just hold it in my hand when stitching but for my larger pieces I have got one of the frames thats shown in the pic in the following link. (BTW I'm not endorsing the site I have linked to, just wanted the pic and don't know how to do just pics) Edit to add~ In the pic the frames they show look like they attach to a stand. You can get them without the stands, mines handheld.

Rainmac. In the pic do you see the piece on one of the frames?
"Cross stitch forever, housework whenever" That looks like my kind of project :rotfl: I'm going to see if I can find a kit of it.

Another edit~ maybe my round frame was rubbish because its really meant to frame a piece when its finished and the material was pulled very tightly?

I missed this thread, don't know how. :o

I started cross stitching in 1992. I didn't realise it was that long ago.

The first thing I made was a Christmas card Father Christmas and then I was hooked. I stitched away into the wee hours many a night.

I introduced my Mum to cross stitching a few years later and when my Dad died in 1996 it was the life line hobby my mother needed to take her through some very dark times. She has gone on to complete some very large and fiddly project and I have nothing but admiration for her. Well done Mum. :T

I love Samplers and Larnarte cross stitch pictures. I normally have more than one project on the go at any one time, each being different size and styles to allow me to stitch the one I'm in the mood for. I prefer to sew on linen or even weave.
I give a lot of my work away as gifts but I do have many framed and on the walls.

I'm looking forward to joining in with everyone, learning and offering help if I can.

    Herbaholic.

    I found this pattern.... www.!!!!!!.com/wv/andrew807/images/tweety.jpg
I think you would have to rescale it as its quite big.

There were also a couple of Tweety kits on e-bay.

Edit to add~ Seems that link isn't working properly but if you type it in your addy bar its fine.

I ordered my first ring thing the other day because my winnie the pooh project is quite large, and it's difficult to progress as quickly as Im always holding the aida tight etc etc! Got 3 projects on the go now - a Tigger bookmark with is 60% done, all the main colour work is done, just all the fiddly outline stuff and background pattern to do. Just restarted my large winnie the pooh project, which is coming along nicely, and I'm rotating these with a bookmark which is smaller and with less stitches, so I see more progress and keep motivated!

Keep the hints, tips and chat coming ladies. Need it to keep focussed :)

I love that cross stitch piece shelly! I've got one that I've not got round to stitching yet that says "Only dull women have immaculate homes". This one... http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&uid=&Prod_Code=10733&ww=on&do=search_results

Brilliant, that made me smile! I searched for ages yesterday for the kit in the pic but no joy at all.

    Hi all!
Just want to give Rainmac a huge thank you for sending me the gorgeous little merrkat pattern! You are a Star!!
Not long got in from a stressful day at work and then had to go food shopping as well so I'm now going to sit and have a cuppa and read the copy of cross stitcher I've picked up. Thought it would make a good read hehehe and it comes with a gorgeous pink butterfly pattern which I think I may give to my boyfriends mum who I love to pieces :D

No probs re the chart siren, so glad you like it!

I really like that free butterfly design too. As it's sort of oriental, I may stitch it and add to my in laws Xmas pressie which is going to be a Chinese cooking theme basket of goodies.

    Hi all!

I haven't started the oriental butterfly picture yet as I'm currently working on a teddy one for my sister (I offered to show her how to cross stitch but kids these days blah blah blah) anyway I've just noticed that this kit has french knots but nowhere in the mag (at least from what I can see) does it show you how to do them. Could someone explain to me in simple terms how to do them as they are new to me.

    Thanks!
