Hello everyone, I'm another cross stitcher and a scrapbooker too.

I'm just starting a cross stitch for my dad for Christmas, seeing as he seems the few in my family who appreciates hand made items :( I used a pattern creator to make a chart of a Terminator 2 image - Arnie on a bike! Lol! Not what I usually like to make (Samplers/Victoriana/Cute sayings) but I'm pretty sure he'll love it. I need to stock up on DMC though and was thinking of popping to Hobbycraft tomorrow - does anyone know their prices? Would rather order online than get ripped off.

Hobbycraft are VERY expensive! I would never buy threads from there. But, there are vouchers in the cross stitch mags for £4 (or was it £5???) off when spending £20 which might be of use to you. I would look online for prices if I were you. But DMC aren't cheap over here. I got my mum to get me loads when she last went to America. Far cheaper out there!

Only just seen this thread :T

I started cross stitching about 20 years ago

I have cross stitched a picture of my Grandmother [who i never met as she died aged 25] in sepia colours and used a CD that converts photos into a chart :D

It's a fab hobby but haven't done it for a while as I can't afford to get new glasses/contact lenses lol!!!

I have never cross stitched but would love to make a cross stitch to frame for a friends wedding and another friend who is due a baby girl soon.

I am confused and overwhelmed by the amount of options of charts, threads etc...

Cannot find an easy kit for the above, does anyone have any recommendations? I would be ever so grateful, the wedding is 3 weeks today

I posted early on in this thread telling you about the Horse Racing project I was doing. Well, as Christmas approaches I am beginning to panic as this was originally going to be for my F-i-L's birthday in August and as I realised it was taking a lot longer than anticipated I decided to do it for Xmas. I was up at 5.30am this morning, see hubby off to work and sat down with it. Although I have been at it for hours I dont seem to have made much progress again:o .

The piece has 43,000 stitches and I'd say I still have 10,000 to go:eek: . Anyone got a magic wand I coud borrow please?

I really want to start a Baby's 1st Christmas one for my granddaughter but I know if I do I won't progress with this one. Agggghhhhh!
    £2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.

Big project poppett but you've got most of it done haven't you. I'd keep going and do the baby one nearer Xmas. There's still ages to go. Good luck, you can do it :D

I've stitched a few little pieces to go into plastic coasters to go with mugs/tea cups and hot chocolate sachets for pressies. Now going to start some Lizzie Kate Xmas stitching from these charts... they are very cute (and so simple to stitch!)...

    Hi!

DMC thread are pretty expensive at Hobbycraft. 89p each rings a bell. I used this lovely lady to buy some light effect threads ready for Christmas. She was so helpful, posted really quick and had really good prices. She sell 40 DMC threads for £13 + p+p which is cheap anyway. This site has nothing to do with me apart from me buying from it and getting a great service. :D

    Hi all only me!!

Wondered if any of you stitchers could help me. I dunno if anyone else has picked up the new Cross Stitcher but I did yesterday and I love the tatty teddy picture and it would be the perfect for my best mate (and OH's sister) for Christmas. However I've now realised that all the threads listed are Anchor and I use DMC and so don't want to buy a load of anchor thread as well.
So what I'm asking is does anyone know where I can find a list which translate Anchor shade numbers into DMC??

    TIA x
