Hi there, my first post!
I have a default on my credit report that is due to fall off next month, after 6 years I will glad to see the back of it. I have recently got a SimplyBe account with a small credit limit purely to pay back anything I should use immediately and watch the green !!0}'s rack up. I also have a £2k overdraft with my graduate Abbey account with cheque card etc, I never go over my overdraft and their reporting on my credit file reflects this.
My credit score in the past has been pretty dreadful (at 453 currently) I assume this was due to being a student and moving around a lot as well as the default. I really didn't understand the meaning of it all, now I want to buy a house it has suddenly become all rather serious. Anyway, my question is, will my credit score increase considerably when this default falls off? I have just applied for a Capital One classic card and Aqua card purely to help boost my score. Is it likely I will be accepted even though I have a default? I have just applied to be on the electoral role at my current address also. Whats all this about MBNA? Should I give them ago?
Anyone with any words of wisdom would be excellent.
Cheers
hiya, welcome to the thread.......... do u know if you got accepted by cap 1 and aqua yet?
it will help more the longer youre registered at your address to get credit, i would go easy on applying if youre intending to get a mortgage, altho your best bet is to get a mortgage broker as they tend to look at your credit report as a whole rather than just getting a score through a computer, if you see what i mean, altho i can imagine youd get punished on the interest, the way things are at the moment, and might have to put down a rather hefty deposit...... the more green dots you have, the better but also be aware that too many accounts giving back these greens might end up going against you also............0 -
I have posted on here a couple of time now but I never seem to get an answer.
I have just got my credit report from experian and paid the £6 to get my credit score at which point I nearly fell off my chair.
I have ccj's and still have an outstanding balance of £24,450 yet my credit score is 842 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
The guide tells me this is fair, my question is does anyone thing I would get accepted to the higher interest rate cc from Barclycard or vanquis ?
The ideas behind getting a cad is to put say £30 a month on and pay it off straight away therefore improving my history.
Please help0 -

842 sounds like a good score, and would have thought you would get accepted.
vanquis seems a bit of a lottery, i got declined and my dh got accepted (both our historys are similar if anything i think his is worse than mine!0 -
Well I posted the acceptance letter off on Friday, fingers crossed that I receive the card. How long does it normally take?
Have had some good news, my credit limit from Next has been increased to £950, had the account since Sept 07 and had a credit limit of £250 til now. Not that I will use the extra credit but it must be a good sign it is getting increased.
Next Directory is odd. I have had an account for nearly 2 years. It started off with a limit of £150 which was gradually raised to £1500. Recently the limit was reduced to £500 and last month to £350. I'm not spending on it - just gradually paying it down with £500 to go.0 -

charlie, i have suggested before that you try to get a vanquis, aqua or the latest mbna card that we're all trying to get thanks to darcy.
none of us can give you a definate yes or no to what you could get or might not get offered, all we can tell you really is what we've all personally got and have been thru and try to help ourselves get forward on our credit files thanks to everyones input to this brilliant thread.
whilst i dont have any ccj's, i do have one default that isnt due to drop off til 2011, i dont know what my credit score is, since i already have a good idea how sh!te it might be from the 'applying and not getting' button lol, however i do have vanquis and a cap 1 card, so maybe youll get them yourself if you applied, i did post the link somewhere round here for you as well, huggles x0 -
