the dragon I am very surprised you ahve to pay for your prescriptions as the pain is surely a hinderance and therefore the medication a necessity? bails not the same?
I get mine free because of being diabetic (the first ever receptionist I saw said 'oh great you are diabetic you will never have to pay for a prescription again' ) could not imagine having to pay £7.10 each time, I know I could not afford that but I guess the insulin is a must:rolleyes:0 -
NHS guidelines say about 30 mins of physical exercise every day. If you are trying to lose weight they suggest up to about 60 minutes on 5-6 days a week. These guidelines seem perfectly reasonable to me
I only measure mine in time/intensity, but I estimate 150-250 calories per half hour depending on intensity (very intense exercise will be higher). I never go by the figures on the machines as I think they are overly generous (just my opinion).
2,128 to me would represent 8-14 half hour sessions so that's perhaps slightly on the low side compared to NHS guidelines, but all exercise is good and even things like active housework and gardening count too

Thanks for the linky MissyG....I liked the clarification between the light moderate and vigorous exercise categories...
I already discounted the 60min walk I do 5 times a week as that is only light exercise (occasionally moderate if we're late). But tis good to know I do a more vigorous workout in the gym (managed 7 mins on the stepper last night
last time I tried it I could only do 4 before I felt like I was about to keel over - it was on random so it might have been an easier workout but I'm counting it as a win
)

I think this is what is known as S*ds law! I have to pay for my life saving medication as well (I am anaphylactic and so have to carry epi-pens), because Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance are not means tested you don't get free medical help!Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

right, well if it will help me i will sign up to this thread , go easy on me as a fella in your midst.
after the usual xmas binge i decided enough was enough and i had to lose a target of 2 stone. having decided this many times before i knew i had to do something different this time otherwise i would just give up soon enough.
I was 14.4 stone which was not grossly overweight, but it was in the obese area, and my BMI showed to be at 29. Also the body fat counter showed i was mainly fat and water, with little muscle.
we all know the way to lose weight, its so simple. eat less and excercise more, but finding the time to excersie was impossible, and i loath paying for gyms that never get used etc etc.
in the end, on jan 13th i decided to do just 3 things only, and change nothing else in my life. This way it should not prove to be too much of a change to prove unsustainable. Hers what i have been doing ever since -
1. i quit ALL "grazing" and snacks, i.e no crisps, mars bars, biscuits etc. This is the one single hardest thing i found at first, it has got easier as it became the norm. Just eat anything you like for two meals a day (note - two meals for me, as i physically cannot stomach breakfasts, if i eat before 10.30 am it makes me feel ill. ) i did not alter what i ate in those meals, i.e i had fish and chips last night,.
If i absolutley have to eat something in between, then it must be fruit, thats the rule.
2. when eating your meals, when you feel full up - STOP, regardless of if theres food on the plate.
3. take a BRISK walk for a minimum of 30 mins each day. I tend to walk to work now which is 3 miles and takes 45 mins about 3 times a week, and fit the other days in with a walk at lunchtime or to the postbox etc.
Thats it, nothing else in my life has changed and i have lost 1 and a half stone now, and dropped a waist size. I cant beleive how easy it has been in comparison to past attempts where i have forced myself to the gym, ate milkshakes, lived on salad only etc etc.
so, almost there and i am happy0 -

Well I have a good day or two = proper healthy eating and been for longish walk today. Set myself some task for when I got home from work and have done them all - cleaning bathrooms, hoovering etc.
Have decided that a short list each day is better than one long list that never gets done. Am not weighing myself till Sunday though.!!!!0 -
hey rockrat - your 'method' is really really interesting - thanks for sharing that. Well done you. Have you been able to asertain if your innards have less fat % yet? As others have said - you aren't the only bloke - we have suggs (his amazing before and after photos are on page 1 of LW thread 19) and ajax, as well as Mark88 who pops in now and then and the occasional other visitor. It's always good to welcome another man to the fold:beer: .I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
