And I got - in writing which is worse - 'this pleasant 54 year old headmistress', my job had absolutely nothing to do with why I'd gone, and I'm absolutely sure that pleasant is a sort of dr code for bloody irritating because I was. And he should have still been in short trousers too. Mind you, if he'd said slim and athletic I would have had to complain to the GMC as it would have called his eyesight into question. . I weighed in this morning and have lost 0.4lbs, I get to report a STS though because of my 'whole lb' approach.
Last time I went to the doctor he used the phrase 'at your age' - cheeky young whipper snapper - I'm not that bloomin' old :rolleyes2
This morning (different doctor - older than the other) used the phrase 'with your slender build' - I could have hugged him - probably not appropriate

bargain_babe wrote: »Bails - brilliant post and so apt. Today I had over 400 photos (from over 4 years!) developed and i was only on 5 and just my head sticking out from behind my family on those 5. I felt awful, my hubby has always said I don't like having my photos taken and he's right but its all because of how I feel about myself. Granted on 2 of the pics I looked awful but even I thought I looked alright on the other 3. So guys, I have decided to forget how big I am and step out in the world and stop hiding.
I am also one of those people who hardly ever buy clothes because I think everything looks awful on me but I went to Sainsburys tonight and bought 4 tops and 3 pairs of trousers, all size 18, and not one in black, I've tried them on - I didn't try and kid myself and buy a size smaller - everything fits and I look okay actually!! I am going away soon and I am going to be on the pictures, I want my kids to remember their mum as being someone who is happy with themselves despite my size.
Sorry for going on but if we can all feel good about ourselves - then its a real big start to the rest of our lives despite whatever journey we have ahead.
Take care all
Awesome! :T Your posts were so wonderful to read, thank you.
FFM, I'd have hugged him, no question! And yours Missy, result! 'Toned and athletic', that'd be my ideal comment. Granny, you had me in stitches as always :rotfl:And BB, there is NO WAY you qualify for the middle-aged comment!!

bargain babe go for it;)
Had a BBQ this evening or rather an oven version of it because the wind picked up and it was not going to be pleasant i nthe garden:D
I used to love shortbread and had some bought for me, started eating one reminiscing of the good old days and how much I loved them when yuck, phlew, no likey now, too sugary, sweet, yuck and gave the rest to the kids:D times changes, tastes changes, shortbread never to be repeated again:D
Had huge row with OH today over my bikini:rotfl: :rotfl: having a confidence crisis as hol is 8 weeks away or 9 something like that anyway...was telling him the belly is too fat to bikini and would go back to all in one but all the dieting surely deserves the bikini treatment, maybe cover up with one of those see through throw over beach things as a comprimise because to me bikini is nakedness or at least the same a s bra and pants, too naked for me, so last year went all in one ,all my friends in bikinis, even my mother who is 82 upuntil recently went topless on the beach:eek: I just have to find the courage from somewhere to wear the bikini and keep focused that I am not that bad and there are worse:rolleyes:
Must keep focused, must not gain before hols, must loose a smidge more, must do sits up to tone stomach (yeah that is going to happen:rotfl: :rotfl: )0 -

Vic, give yourself a break! If you don't feel like wearing the bikini then the compromise sounds perfect. I don't have the confidence to wear one except on deserted beaches with an OH who loves me whatever size I am.:D
For the record, sit-ups tone up the muscles underneath any fat so however many you do you are unlikely to see any difference - if anything, the muscle tone will improve so you may see an increase in the size of your belly (especially if you don't breathe correctly when doing them as the muscles will form convexly ie outwards!). Sit-ups are however great for improved core stability which is what we all need to get around etc.The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Hi Vix - take it from me, if you care about your weight now, you'll still care about it when you're 50! I've gone through phases in my life when I've decided I'm not meant to be slim, that I should accept the way I am because that's how I'm meant to be. It works for a while, but then something will trigger a decision to lose weight again, which might be looking for an outfit and not being able to find something I like that fits, or seeing an unflattering photograph of myself.
You aren't particularly big, and I feel you could be in danger of having a distorted body image. We're all influenced by the perfect body images that we're bombarded with by the media, and if we don't fit that image, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we have to change ourselves so that we do.
If you decide to lose weight make sure you're doing it for yourself, not to meet anyone else's expectations, real or unreal.

its not so much caring about my weight when im 50, its the constant pressure to talk a certain way, to wear certain clothes, to do certain things that im possibly hoping wont be such the case when im 50!
I do think though, that if i wasnt a pear shape i wouldnt bother at all. My hips measure at 42 inches, which is really bottom heavy in contrast with the rest of me. I have some size 10 tops that i wear with size 14 bottoms, and i think that area of my body makes me feel bigger than i am because its the centre and focus of my body. If i could make my thighs leaner i dont think i would bother to lose weight.
anyway im babbling (but you are right, the only reaon im probably trying to lose weight is so that i can be whatever everyone thinks i should be)0 -
Brighton_belle wrote: »Vix -on the other hand, I have found as I have got older that I do care less about what others think in general, so am much more confident than I was at 21. But I still want to look my best. But you seem far more open and life embracing than I was at your age which is a great start. I think it is possible to become less affected by sociatal pressure to look a certain way as you get older and be more confident about your individual style and personality, but being too over weight would still trouble you probably as others here have testified, andit did me. The horrendous and offensive hoohar by some of the media about princess beatrice in a bikini is a case in point - she is a size 10 and eats healthily yet is very curvy and has 'shock horror' hips, being a woman. The press have torn her to shreds but her body shape isn't going to change (short of an eating disorder). Thats the sort of pressure you younger girls in particular are under and it is sooo wrong:mad: . I know your hips and legs are what trouble you most. I wouldn't be suprised if in 10-15 yrs time you look back at photos and think to your self, actually I look fine, what was I worried about. But that is not to belittle what you feel now in any way. And never forget - Matt really fancies you:D .
God thanks BB. There should be an award on here for you. I have tears in my eyes!! one has just rolled ha. I totally agree with you though, i know for a fact i will look back on now and think jesus christ why the sodding hell was i complaining, why didnt i go out there and enjoy it! I thought beatrice looked great in that bikini aswell. I was gunna say i wish i would look that good, but im trying to be positive ha.
love you BB!!0
