  • Good morning everyone! I'm new to the OS daily chat threads. I'm Ann-Marie, 30, live in Bradford, married with 2 boys aged (almost) 9 and 2.5.

I had my youngest son's bedroom decorated yesterday. It was truely hideous and I couldn't paint over it because whoever had hung the paper had left creases and bubbles in it, so I decided to get it all re-papered. That was finished and today it is dry so I will be starting to paint once I have packed the little blighter off to nursery this afternoon. I'll be emulsioning the ceiling white (leftover from last decorating job) and glossing the woodwork white (also with leftovers) and spent £7.99 on a tin of 'duck-egg' emulsion, which is a lovely mint-aqua green colour. It's only a small room so I need something light. The carpet is also threadbare and old fashioned so as it's such a small space we are going to laminate it.

This evening I am going to be having some firemen around! A few months ago I went to a gala and was stopped by the fire safety man at a stall who asked me if I wanted some free smoke alarms. Was I going to say no? Anyway it turned out the fire brigade would also come and fit them for me, so they are coming at 7pm. Apparently they come in uniform (faints) in their engine (faints again) mobhanded (faints yet again)...

  • TM - I'm really sorry, I posted in this thread yesterday without reading everyone else's contributions, and I feel very oblivious and selfish at just whittering on in light of your news.

I'm glad you have a happy peaceful image of your Dad to remember, and it's lovely that he was with his family, a really loving family, at the end.

    I'm thinking of you.

Morning all - Day off for me!!! whooohoooo first time I've been alone in the house for 8 weeks...it's bliss.

Had a quick whizz round and tidy up then spent an hour sorting my present cupboard......glad I did as I've found loads of things I'd forgotton about....DD1's birthday pressies were stacked inthe back...her birthday's not until november but when I saw bits I got them....got a carrier bag full of stocking fillers for them too so don't need anything in that line. Got nephews and neices xmas pressies, in-laws and friends...I'm feeling all organised now.

Planning on making cards a bit later but thought I'd have a coffee and a mooch on here, have got the sewing machine out and ready to go as I've seem to have accumulated a huge pile of things that need doing...a duvet cover mother was going to throw out becuase the top seam is undone about 4 inches....(it was still in it's packaging when she put it on the chuck pile!!!) DD1 is so skinny that I always need to take her jeans and trousers in at the waist....got 5 pairs of jeans and a skirt to do for her....also got 3 pairs of new trousers for me to take up..I'm not that short at 5'7 but these all seem to be made for someone with legs to their armpits...but a lovely fit everywhere else.

It's going to be an oven chips and eggs night tonight, don't want to stand cooking for ages seeing as it's my day off and the chips weren't on my meal plan so in effect it's a free dinner.

Might have to make a banana cake along the way....got about 20 bananas on the turn....can you freeze them??? (bananas that is)

Didn't sleep at all well last night - we were still lying there chatting at 2.45am, we seem to be the local ark last night and ended up with 2 cats, a frog, about 456moths (or so it seemed) and a dappy crane fly that just kept bumping into the ceiling ....and why does that sound so loud in the middle of the night!

Anyway - must get on or I shall just spend the day here whittering on!
Hope you all have a good one.

LOL Monkeylugs, I wish I'd seen that around here ;) Still trying to convince DH that he has the time to refit our smoke alarms. I'm not tall enough to put them back where they were before we had the replastering and decorating done :(

I feel so uneasy without them, especially as he works nights now.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • In the words of Rabbi Lionel Blue "Good morning to you all".

TM: Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better

    Lisa & Ann-Marie: Welcome

At work (boo) but not a great deal to do so I will be finding out stuff off the internet to help me keep within budget.....

Firemen..... not too fussed about them myself but one of my friends is married to one. We were all in the pub for her birthday and she was a tad "jolly". Terry rings her and says he'll come and pick her up (I think he was worried about the state she would be in). Anyway, he's on duty so he comes in the fire engine to collect her with all his workmates. My lasting image of the evening is her leaning out of the fire engine as it drives past the pub a la patsy from ab fab waving and screeching to us....... always makes me laugh!!!!! the sights you see when you haven't got a camera!!!! :rotfl:

woke up this morning to the smell of fresh bread - yum. OH has just lost a major order in his underfloor heating business which would have given him c£8-900 profit. and he thinks somebody is telling porkies and it's not the manufacturer who has told the customer they won't guarantee the flooring she's having but it's the fitter who can't be bothered putting it in....... it's the customer's fitter too so he hasn't got a great deal that he can do about it. he didn't sleep very well last night and is shattered today and has a really bad cold sore as well which he always gets when he's stressed. I feel so angry for him.............. i shall try and do a nice meal on saturday which may cheer him up.
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

I've just transfered another £50 to one of our credit cards so thats £75 paid off it this week alone - the other is Capital One on a 0% deal until 18th November (got the tart alert set up already as well!) so I'm paying a fixed £50 a month on that as well. Just update Money and according to the cash flow forecast our Mastercard should be in credit by the end of October :j

BUT we have over £1000 on the Capital One plus we'll have a payment of up to £700 for car insurance to pay at the end of November so hopefully OH will apply for the new Capital One offer and get the full period (everything that can be crossed will be crossed) and we'll be able to pay £260 a month off it. If all goes well we should be out of credit card debt by May - even better though, if we manage to sell our current car next week for a decent price, we could be bringing that date forward even more. But that doesn't account for the two storecards (currently 29.9% APR) we have that I want to BT to our credit card (which reminds me I need to dig the paperwork out for the storecards) :o .... I think I might need to speak to OH about applying for the Capital One card ASAP. Any advice on how soon you think he should apply? Would sooner rather than later be better even though I have another 2 months on my current 0% offer?

  • Nicki: It takes about a month for everything to come through so I would do it at the end of this month if I were you - don't forget to write down the date of the reversion to interest paying!!!!!! OH laughs at me doing this but I've saved loads which has meant that I can pay twice as much off each time!! hurrah!!

This would be a good question to ask on the credit card board as I've seen some cracking good advice given there. :)

  • Hi

2 washloads done, stairs hoovered down, floors swept and cleaned out cleaning cupboard under sink. Have new cleaner coming tomorrow and want it to be clean  LOL.

Nicki-I would suggest applying about 4 weeks before your 0% is up. I left it 2 weeks and missed out on a few days-but i was lucky. I went from Halifax One and applied for the new Skycard. I think its 0% free till June 2006-I have done 2 BT and have not been charged on either(I spoke with a manager and said that I didnt want to pay the normal 2% fee) Also, the card took 6 weeks to come through but as soon as I was accepted I was able to do a BT that same day. Im not using it for purchases, just the BT, so this was fine for me. I was initially given a credit limit of £3500 but as I did a balance transfer the upped it too £7000  You get points for each £1 you spend and can use these to pay for pay per view movies or even towards your monthly bill. We are going to be completely debt free in April 2006 and cant wait. Once this is paid we have to look into buying a newer car as ours is on its last legs and not very economical. but gets us from A-Z.

OH popped round to Lidls as we needed some ham and bits. He got huge creamy coleslaw, boiled ham(200g), box of cup-a-soups, 2 x beetroot, milk, 1kg seedless grapes, 4 fresh figs, 12 small Magnum type ice cream (devine), 2 tiramisu, pack of 7 Mars bars (me sugar fix lol), fruit chews x 2 (dd  )squash x 2. Came to £7.21 So cheap round there.

Change of plan to lunch-we had jacket spud with ham, salad & coleslaw. Dinner is chicken & veg pie with oven chips and spagetti.

    xx
