Does it really matter to the average Joe as long as they get free/inclusive intl calls.:D
Well it doesn't say much for a telcoms company if they can't even get their own numbers correctly formatted. So YES it DOES matter. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
no thats incorrect^ 0207 0208 & the new 0203 are london prefixes, its how people recognise them due to the 4 changes in London codes in 10 yrs
1990 01 becomes 071/081
1995 071/081 becomes 0171/0181
2000 0171/0181 becomes 020 most people including Londoners just carried the 7 or 8 across
0203 347 3399
my Orange Broadband 2nd line Talk has a 0203 London prefix, thats how Orange display it as a choice for London - 0203SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

LOL My God how can people even today get it wrong!
The NEW London prefix was 020, not 0207, 0208 or 0203.
The LONDON PREFIX IS 020.
The 7, 8 or 3 is part of the LOCAL number.
0203 347 3399 is INCORRECT.
It is: 020 3347 3399
The 3 is part of the local number.
Now if the area code was 0203 and the local number was 347 3399 that would mean you if you lived in the 0203 area you could dial 347 3399. Now try that and you find the call won't connect because it us missing a digit.
There is no 0207, 0208 or 0203 area code, only 020.
This means anywhere in the 020 area you can dial other London numbers without the 020 but just the local number, for example 3347 3399, 7043 1320.
Look at this London number for a speaking clock. 020 7043 1320, now you say the local area code is 0207, that makes the local number 043 1320, now can you see a problem here? You try dialling that local number? You can't 1) it is missing a digit, 2) it begins with a 0. As the area code for London is 020, the local number is 7043 1320 and this you can dial from anywhere in London without 020.
1990 01 becomes 071 / 081
1995 071 / 081 becomes 0171 / 0181
2000 0171 / 0181 becomes 020, with 7 and 8 becoming part of the local number, just because some people get it wrong, doesn't meant that is right. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
0207 0208 & the new 0203 are london prefixes, its how people "recognise" them due to the 4 changes in London codes in 10 yrs, we all dont live in London & Londoners themselves give out 020X XXX XXXX
add to that UK mobile do not recognise local area & area code must be dialled, even Vodafone can tell you your local area code on screen but you still have to dial it
blame the telecom regulator/s since 1990 people take 020X as a London codeSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

Incorrect.
020 is the prefix. 7, 8 and 3 are part of the local number.
Just because a few people recognise them wrong, does not make it right.
Re-read my post and when in London if you aren't already you try dialling a local number without the 3, 7 or 8 on it and see how far you get!
People need to be informed of the correct way to display numbers so as not to confuse.
Try dialling 043 1320 within London, if people think 0207 is the dialling code then 043 1320 is the local number, however 020 is the dialling code and the local number is 7043 1320 this would then dial.
People need to learn how to construct their own number correctly, not as if it is difficult, not even for the hard of thinking I would have thought.
Doesn't help when people who should know better make errors.
