Internet Telecom is no more!

I am one of the minority who has enjoyed good service from ITplc for a fair few years. £6.75 line rental and fairly cheap calls.

From the message I get when I try to make calls looks like they're no longer operating the service.
RIP independent MSE.

  • Well, there's at least 2 of us out there! BT recorded message appeared yesterday morning out of the blue. ITplc phone number disconnected and no info on their (dated) website. Very little info on the web at all. Shame, was good while it lasted. I always begrudge paying BT ...

In the same boat as you, if there is a boat ha! I get the same message but have only just noticed as I don't make that many calls anyway! Interestingly I can still receive calls but as soon as I try to make a "paid for" call I get the message! Really hate the thought of going back to BT especially as IT have provided such a great service and very cheap line rental at just £5.25 a month. There seems to be no other news about this company on the internet, in fact apart from their own website this site brings up the only reference, all very strange!
  • Another in the the same sinking ship/boat/dinghy.........
I left a message on thursday with them, and surprisingly a woman got back to me saying that they had ' technical' problems and for the time being to put 1280 in front of the number and that will route the call through BT.

No mention of the company going belly-up......still they would'nt would they?

Not sure who will be billing me for the calls using this method, but I am not going to sign to anyone quickly.........I might not get charged at all!!!!

Hi, yes I just got that message when I got through to them this morning, although it is not very specific it sounds as though the service might only be down temporary and I hope that is the case!!

If you dial 1280 however then your calls will be routed through BT, but if that means paying BT as well, then no thanks!

The best alternative if it does all go tits up with IT would seem to be a company called Toucan (part of tiscali i think) who have line rental at £8.99 a month, a lot more than we are paying with IT, but so far have not sourced anything cheaper than that?

I think for the time being I will just use my mobile for making calls and wait and see what happens with IT, everything may just sort itself out, maybe they haven't paid their bills or something like that?

If you have moved your line rental and calls away from BT you want have a BT Account so you cant pay them.
  • My father-in-law who is also with ITPLC was phoned up by a company called blue telecom who said that itplc had gone bankrupt and offered him to sign up with them, and to look on their web site...........bluetelecom.co.uk

But no tarriffs published so I was a bit wary  perhaphs hold fire for now and see what happens.

So itplc could be no more!!!

Not only no tariffs but an 0870 contact number!

Not the way to encourage business.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Would 1280 work on a non-BT line rental. I would expect both the line rental company and BT to block that.

It can work as it has done for the posters above. Your current supplier would normally raise charges if appropriate not BT.

Ah yes, I missed that. I'm still in doubt who would charge for the call and how they would achieve it?
