Internet Telecom is no more!

As my line,via1280 and broadband are still OK I think I will wait for the final bill from it plc to see what they suggest we do,who knows, someone may take over.
Re Blue Telecom, it appears they are for business customers only. Although if they are ringing up it plc customers (not me yet) perhaps they are taking over?
I have rang Toucan (line rental £8.99 inc VAT) they say it takes 10 days to transfer.
Any body got anymore suggestions?
Geoff
As you are going to stick it out with IT to the end, then instead of using 1280 why not just use one of the cheaper short codes, like 1899, 18866 or 18185? IT do not actually allow you to use other providers, but what are they going to do.....close your account? These short codes do work on IT lines as I have been using them myself.
The lead time with toucan for me will have actually been just over 2 weeks (from when I signed up with them) and my go live date is set for 9th May!0 -

They also don't bar 1899 etc.0 -
The website message doesn't inspire me to expect IT plc to provide an alternative, and a look at their entry at Companies House is revealing, so I searched for another provider yesterday. It's not possible to sign up via Uswitch as the site doesn't recognise itplc as a provider, but I used the defaults to get as far as the recommendations then checked out the various companies. I'm a low user who just wants inexpensive line rental.
It seems it's not possible to sign up online unless you're a BT customer so I phoned Toucan (line rental £8.99 a month) where I was signed up very efficiently with a confirmation email within the hour. Also looked at First Telecom (£10.44) and see today that greenmobile.co.uk is offering line rental of £9.99 and some interesting deals.
Thanks to other posters on this Forum - your info's been helpful.

I must be the only reader who doesn't know what 1899 is. I have just today tested 1280 and that works fine. I am only interested in lowest line rental as we all use our free minutes on our mobiles and only use the line for the occasional broadband internet use, but since we can do that on our mobiles also we would not miss the line. We are now awaiting the final bill to see what happens0

Welcome to the MSE forums Chalice.
1899, 18185 and 18866 all offer similar services - the most attractive of which is calls at any time to UK 01/02/03 numbers for, in effect, a flat rate of 5p each (regardless of duration).

http://www.call18866.co.uk/index2.phpTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
As an ex ITplc customer, I too have signed up with Toucan. The process was easy, and they have given me £15 of call credit. When I recommend my parents, we will each receive another £25.
I note that the dreaded 0871 numbers have disappeared too!RIP independent MSE.

BT have recently left a message saying that if we do not sign up with them (or another provider) our line will be disconnected by the end of the month. That was my incentive to go to Toucan. We never make any calls on the line as we have free evening & weekend calls on the internet phone & we have all got tons of minutes on our mobiles.
We toyed with the idea of paying Three mobile £5.00 per month for a broadband dongle and doing away with the land line altogether. But we weren't convinced that a temperamental mobile service would be as efficient as the land line has been.
We have only contracted with Toucan for twelve months, thereafter it can be cancelled with something like a months notice. I don't see how you can go wrong!

Hi, I am also with Toucan and had also thought that their customer services was an 0871 number, yet the secure link you provided shows it to be 0800. I am confused now as when you visit the website toucan.com it does say 0871 for customer services? Where does the link you posted come from?will-in-estoril wrote: »0
