I went to the sky website and found the free BB and put in my postcode and it came back with this...

Sky’s Base, Mid and Max products are not currently available in your area. But they can offer me a connect package for £17.

    Not fair!

    :(

Use the Broadband article on this site, check the local exchange as it instructs and then call them up, saying you want the £5 a month service - it works fine for me. :T

We are use sky broadband. Were with BT but obviously £5 per month compared to the £24 we were paying before made the difference!
However, Sky does seem to cut out frequently, and is a pain in the ****, but I guess you get what you pay for?

If you are using Windows XP, click Start, Programs, Accessories and Command Prompt. Type in 'ping www.google.co.uk' -t. If you get a mix of responses and 'request timed out's change your DNS servers to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, I had the same problem and now very, very rarely lose connection. If you need more help, PM me.

Could also be that your connection needs to be capped slightly to stabilise it against your line conditions.

I've had a look but am not sure what article you mean. I don't suppose you could post the link to it could you?

    Thank you!

  • I am considering moving to sky broadband and phone. I'd like to find out what they are like and if their customer service is as bad as talk talk?

    Thanks

I'll be as brief as possible but I can't believe this one!

I've got the full monty on sky including sky + and multiroom. I was also paying Virgin for my telephone and Broadband. I thought I'd look into the Sky broadband deal as it would work out significantly cheaper so I rang them. The guy sai I needed to switch back to BT and then phone them after the line had been active for 5 days. I could then have up to 2 meg free or 8 meg for £5. Happy with this as it's a lot less than I'm paying.

Cancelled my Virgin subscription, ends on the 30th. Had my BT line reconnected on the 5th.
Just rang Sky to get the old Broadband sorted out.
Started off with let me just check that number now wait for it..........
You can only have Sky connect which will cost you £75 to connect and £17 a month. Absolutely no sorry about that more along the lines of I don't give a toss and you don't know who you talked to in the first place.

Anyone got any advice as to what I can do. I assume I'm going to have to contact a third party re my broadband but am open to suggestions.

They really are awful, must be an age thing that made me forget how awful.

Did the first Sky guy actually check that your exchange had been unbundled?
You can do this yourself on samknows
If an exchange is due to be unbundled in a few months Sky have been known to offer the Connect (BT) service for £5.
Either way its looks as if they have misled you.
Time for an e-mail to Mr Murdoch james.murdoch@bskyb.com

  • Is this any good at £5.00 per month for existing Sky Customers????
