I went for the max package for £10 a month and there was no set up costs with this one.
I have found sky broadband to be excellent.

You may want to look at your line conditions etc first as ADSL is very dependant on distance from exchange, quality of wiring (internally and externally) and equipment at exchange. Any noise on your line or issue on your telephone connection back at the exchange will directly impact your speed. If you call Sky they can give you a rough estimate of speed to expect, sites like ADSL Kitz can also give you a clue as to what you can expect in an ideal world.
We moved from VM to Sky a while ago and have been very pleased with it.

This is very important! I switched to Sky mid package recently and almost everyday I've have dropped connection! I wish I hadn't left Virgin's cable broadband.

If you are lucky, it will work fine with you - if not, your doomed.

If you currently have ADSL already, then probably you can move to Sky without much issue, however, if you have VM cable broadband, don't bother switching.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Movilogo have you actually looked into the reason for your disconnections? if its a line issue it may be something relatively easy to sort and if its a config issue then Sky can sort that side.

I'm with Be There too, I was with Sky previously.

On the same line, I was getting 1100kbs from Sky, on their fastest option, and they told me that was the best speed that I would be able to achieve on the line. Note kb stands for kilobits (eight bits in a kilobyte) whereas KB (in capitals) stands for kilobyte (1024KB in a megabyte).

The customer service I've experienced over the last 4 months has been brilliant, too :).

BTW, I've got to own up. I just went on speedtest.net and was astonished at how fast my connection is nowadays (and yes, I can actually download at these speeds!) so I thought I'd come and share the love and this thread showed up on search when I typed in "bethere" :).

I was with Sky and it was terrible. I wasn't on the MAX package but just the £17pm deal. I play games online (calm yourselves!! LOL) and my ping and frame rate scores were slower than they would hav been on dial-up broadband. This was despite all checks saying that I should get up to 4mb sppeds.

Unfortunately for us gamers there’s little in the way of a link between bandwidth (Mbps) and ping (ms)/Packet loss. You’ll find it’s all down to the servers you’re playing on (e.g. US/Australian servers worse than UK/Swedish/German servers) and how well connected (physically) your ISP is to the target server.

If you’re hardcore and have the cash to spare you could try a provider like multiplay: http://www.multiplaydsl.net/play/ they’re not cheap (~£30/mo) but they are geared towards gaming so “contention is a thing of the past”. You’ll also have excellent connectivity to their servers -just 3 hops (I just pinged them from my work and had 8 hops but even then at a pretty respectable 7ms ping, imagine what it’d be like on their connection!). As for ping to other game server hosts, well – there’s no guarantee of anything but a general policy aimed towards gaming should keep you happy. It’s also a rolling one month contract so if you’re not happy... switch!

Oh, and in the spirit of the thread - I've been with Sky for ~6months now and not a single problem. Quick and easy to set up, speed ok for the area (~4.5Mbps) and only one connection interruption that I've noticed which was quickly rectified by restarting the router.

All in all 4/5 (would be 5/5 but I’ve never had a reason to call customer service hence no idea what customer service is like – during installation they were good but it’s usually a different call centre (time-zone, even!) when phoning tech support!)
    .

    Happy surfing/gaming y'all!
