    Is sky broadband any good?

i am with BT paying 24.99 a month, phoned up to cancel and they offered me 14.99 a month to stay. I accepted as it has always been great.

now, still within my 14 day cooling off period, i have looked over the sky option at 10 a month again and think, sod it, bt are generally a bunch of wonkers and i may aswell save an extra 60 a year!

but... is sky broadband any good? any problems?

    help appreciated.

    thanks

    Si x

Hi there, I'm very happy with my sky broadband. My only complaint is the 0844 number, but I always use 'say no to 0870' to contact them. I also choose to pay an extra £5 per month which gives me inclusive national calls and international calls as my sister lives in Australia. It covers most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. Calls to cell phones in USA and Canada are also covered.

I'm on Sky broadband (the 8mbps mid package @£5/month), no problems after an initial problem with BT swapping me onto a dud port on the DSLAM, took them three months to sort it.
If you go for Sky talk as well then calls to CS will be free, from July if I recall.
The best place for Sky Broadband info is this independent site https://www.skyuser.co.uk
Lots of help for the uninitiated, and Sky emplyees post on the site from time to time.

PS You need to check if Sky Broadband is available at your exchange first, if not you'll be offered the Sky Connect package which is a rebranded BT offering at £17.99/month.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

  • We have unfortunatly only had bad luck with sky broadband. We have been with them nearly a year now. On installation the engineer couldn't get it to work. ( and this was with wires- its a wireless router)
Eventually it worked then just as the direct debit comes round every month it wouldn't connect. Its always a tier 3 fault which means it takes about a week to fix. Normally they say its the router and send a new one out or they blame BT. BT blame them! We are on our sixth router now. We were told by phone we could cancel the contract as Sky had been unable to provide a service, however on writing to close the account, they said we couldn't cancel until 12 months had passed.
If your lucky, when you phone, you speak to someone in Ireland. they are helpful. If you unlucky, your get India and the call takes hours. No one from Tier 3 answers the india calls and their not there at night even though it is a 24 hr service and the answer message says that.
We are charged for the Broadband max package but apparently we can only get 2 mb rather than 8 + in our area. They refused to downgrade our pacakage!
For the £5 we pay for the service every month, we probably pay anothr £5-7 in calls to try and fix it. Time to definatly move provider.

Short 'n' sweet: IMO Sky BB = fine.

Good speed, just 3 connection dropouts in 9 months. No need to deal with Customer services...yet. :S
    Pure Profile: £5.40
Valued Opinions: £2 (not that impressed by them)
RPoints/Quidco: Not much, waiting for a couple to appear on the radar.
Financial Achievements 2008: 1) £46 Agent Provocateur for just £22.43, new and legal! :D 2) Had HSBC waive £100 of fees

I had similar issues with Sky BB which was ultimately fixed [bad router] by Indian call center guys. In fact, when I complaint about 0844 numbers, they called me back [which UK call center guys refused to do it saying they are only inbound call center]
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Erm all the call centers are inbound only for Tier 1, unless you had been put through to CST you would not have been called back without the consent of a team leader.
