    I was checking out SkyTalk while holding. I realised there wasn't much in it for me and also decided the fiver a month free landline calls was worth it for me.

    Are you aware of their price increases.

    How can the calls be free if you pay £60 a year for them ? :D

    It was the prices from 15 April that I looked at. But thanks for pointing it out. I'm happy with those, except for the 0845/0870 calls. But I spent less than two quid on those in my last quarter so I'm not really too fussed about those. Especially when you consider most of those numbers can be replaced with the alternatives via SayNoTo0870.

    Similarly, I paid £20 on daytime landline calls last quarter, so paying £15 a quarter instead suits me. They're free in the sense that they're not charged per minute. You know what I mean. On top of that, I get 25% off mobile calls for the fiver a month deal, while the free Sky deal only gives 5% off. (Primus2 was cheaper or more expensive depending what time of the week it was.) I* paid £50 on mobiles last quarter so this discount is definitely worthwhile.

    * I probably spent 50p on mobiles. My teenage daughters however... ;-)

    In which case, using 18185 during the week and 1899 or 18866 at the weekend would be even more worthwhile (roughly 50%):

    18185 weekdays - 5p connection + 6p per minute;
    Sky weekdays --- 7p connection + 9.38p per minute;

    1899/18866 w/ends - 5p connection + 3p per minute;
    Sky weekends
    - 7p connection + 5.63p/minute).
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi, thanks for that. I dig what you're saying but I'd never be able to train my family to dial certain codes at certain times of the day. Training my daughters to put the phone down before the hour is up is enough of a challenge!

    Another customer for an Orchid then.

    I wish I had shares.

    What's Orchid all about? I've seen their name referenced. Just done a quick Google and they look like they make phones? From what we've been discussing would I be right in saying you can program them to dial certain prefixes at certain times of the day? (With no further user intervention?)

    If that's the case then definitely worth considering. Although I'd have to work out how long it would take to pay me back. Not to mention have the same functionality of my present phones (eg 3 cordless phones).

    Edit: OK, I just read the link in your signature. So is this something that sits between my base and the phone socket? (All three cordless phones use the same base.) I didn't realise home phones could be so complicated! ;-)

    £9.99 won't break the bank...

    It would be best to get the £20 one, however there's a thread at the top of this board with details of the discount you can get for going via MSE.

    With it programmed, it will work out the routing itself, you can even set it to dial the freephone 0800 118 service when someone dials any 118 service. It's a very good device.

    I never used one myself as I am so tight fisted, I didn't want to spend the money, I just remember when and what to dial at the time and drummed it in to other family members, but for those who can't remember or drum it in, it is ideal.
    It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    Yes, it's a small box which plugs into the telephone socket and then your DECT base station plugs into the other side.

    As BexTech says, go for the Orchid V4+ (£15.98 after MSE discount).

    hi guys, sorry to hijack this thread, I'm with Skytalk for my evenign and weekend calls, only because of it beong part of the deal when signing up to Sky HD, I'm intending to change over to Primus to take advantage of the 90min calls in an evening. However, just a quick question, when I log into the BT Website to check my bills, I can see 'Recent Calls' and some of the few calls I have made, I'd have thought this wouldn't be possible on BT's website seeing Sky is my calls provider?

    When I log into Sky, it does show as 'SkyTalk Freetime' is on my account? There isn't anything wrong with my setup is there, I'm definitely on Sky for calls??
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

    Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

    Depends on what type of calls are showing on your BT bill.

    Certain calls are still carried by BT as are those where you dial 1280 to place the call back over BT.

    Also if you press 3 to return the call on 1471 or 0 to return the call on 1571, then it is a BT service and you'll pay BT the 7.5p or so fee Inc VAT for that, although the call itself will still go via Sky Talk or your chosen CPS provider.
