Can I assume from this that calls to "Sky 0845 and 0870" numbers are cheap or even free to Sky Talk subscribers?
The only calls to Sky that will be free from 1st July 2008 for SkyTalk customers are those to their customer service centres.(eg all calls to Sky's Customer Service 0870 and 0844 numbers). Otherwise they will be charged at their new exorbitant rates for 0845/0870.0 -

How many times should the average Sky customer need to call Sky Customer Services anyway? Once a year? Twice?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

. I suppose what I'm really getting at is whether the calls to Sky's football betting service is classified as a "Sky call centre" and thus will become free from 1st July.

No, I'm afraid I have neither creddish.
I (as you've probably guessed) am the world's No.1 cynic so I fully expect Sky to continue to charge for as many of their 0844 & 0870 numbers as they can get away with. 'Sky call centres' is open to interpretation (or open to limited interpretation more likely) so ........Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Heinz,
Thanks for all of your very useful information about how to get away from BT's extortionate charges. Yesterday I signed up to Primus Saver Option 2 with the Penny Mobile 2 add-on.
During my registration the Primus agent asked me if I would also like them to provide my BT line rental at a price cheaper than BT's. They say that they are allowed to act as a reseller for BT and if I took the BT line rental from them then it would not effect my Broadband or anything else that that relied on my BT line.
I opted not to take them up on their offer at this time as I'd not seen it mentioned by anybody else on these forums. They said I could change my mind later if I wanted to take the BT line rental from them. Have you heard anything about this ?
Cheers - keep up the good work ! :T0 -

The 'leave all your options open' advice is always to leave your line rental with BT because only BT is required to allow you to use all other calls providers (CPS and/or indirect access providers like 1899, 18185 and 18866).
Although some other line rental providers still allow the latter, some have and they all could bar such access. In fact, only BT allows CPS anyway.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Heinz,
Thanks for that. Can't wait for 3 weeks time when I can start getting my free evening & weekend calls. BT can get stuffed !
