    Astonishing.

IMHO, a clincher NOT to proceed when considering whether to switch line rental to Sky (and lose access to BT via the 1280 prefix) rather than just use Sky Talk as a CPS calls provider.

    After the changes, comparisons:

    0845

    Daytime ----Evening/Night

    Sky 7p connection + 6p/min.
    6p/min.
    BT*-6p connection + 2p/min.
    ½p/min.

    0870
    Daytime ----Evening/Night

    Sky 7p connection + 10p/min.
    8p/min.
    BT*-6p connection + 06p/min.
    1½p/min.

    * For those who leave their line rental with BT (i.e. just use Sky Talk as their CPS calls provider), using the 1280 prefix to 'hop back onto BT' for 0845 and 0870 calls.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Time to leave I think. Primus Saver 2 looks attractive again.

I just signed up to SkyTalk Freetime the other day (no line rental) to use with my Orchid+Heinz. Thankfully, the only part that affects me is the 4p/min charge on the inclusive calls lasting more than an hour, so I'll have to be extra careful - perhaps a stopwatch next to every phone in the house! >1 hour calls are very rare though.

I didn't sign up to Primus as I didn't want to set up another account but I can always move if it becomes necessary.

As Heinz points out an excellent reason not to move your line rental to them.

I agree. It's possible to get linerental from BT for £10.50 per month when paying via direct debit and using online billing. This is only 50p per month more than what Sky charge for linerental.
