what is wrong with you people?????????? these 'young girls' (old enough to work in a supermarker - not kids) should be old enough to show respect??? by all means have an oppion.. share it on here... but if your in work and you time is being paid for then your oppions should be kept until a more appropriate time... what if these women had heard what was being said about them?? being over weight (by choise or otherwise) is not fun, having a disabilaty makes life so much harder.. (i work with disabled females) but what makes these two 'girls' so much better that they can take the p*$$ and get away with it?? they need to grow up and join the real world.. hopeful starting with the sack for gross misconduct.

the young in this country scare me... no respect and they show that so freely and these yobs are producing young.... god help us all.

i must say i dont agree with this as im 'young' and have repect am im certainly not a yob

sure, CCTV operators take the wee out of people, policeman take the wee out of some of their "clients", so why shouldn't supermarket workers? Are you saying supermarket workers are lowly and aren't allowed their opinions and be able to express them?

So just because some people get away with it that's ok then?

Taking this to the extreme, our Army are killing people all over the world legally...so that means it's ok for me to go out and shoot a few people???!!!:eek::eek:

I used to work in a supermarket (Mr. T's) when I was at school. I was a youngster, brought up, not dragged up, and would not DREAM of insulting someone like that.
The only person we ever giggled at (in the canteen, well away from the shop floor and other customers) was a particularly badly disguised transvestite who would come into the store, would have stubble on his face and wonky lippy, but we ALL, without exception, treated 'her' with respect, albeit with a wry smile.

Opinions of those who work with the public are not for public consumption, unless the public are directly attacking that individual. I expect good service in shops, and that means the full attention of the person serving me. I have left a basket of shopping sat on the belt when I came across a particularly surly and ignorant till worker at my local store. She was too busy talking to her friend on the next till, and the people in front of me were annoyed as well, so I waited till I got to her and told her as obviously we customers were an inconvenience to her and her friend I wouldn't trouble her with bothering to scan my shopping. I walked off!

But then that's just me! :rotfl:

It's funny. In one thread everyone hates Supermarkets, will only use them if they have to etc etc. Then in another thread the same people all of a sudden seem concerned for their reputation.

Technically what they did was wrong but I think the op has blown it completely out of proportion. It's another part of herd mentality though where people love to complain about the same things, this case being what staff should/shouldn't be doing.

I couldn't care less about the reputation of a supermarket. What I care about are people - everyone should be able to go shopping without being insulted because they look 'different'. This kind of behaviour happens everywhere, the example in this case just happens to be a supermarket. IMO, if someone behaves like this they should be reprimanded, WHEREVER they work. If nobody is willing to say to someone 'why on earth are you treating another human being like that?' then people never learn that that behaviour is utterly and completely wrong. As I said in an earlier post, if you must insult people then do it on your own time, when you're with a group of people who appreciate that. Don't do it when you're in public, being employed to act as a customer service assistant.

(Sorry if I'm harping on about this, but I feel strongly about it. My OHs mum has Huntingtons, which means that she has difficulties speaking, walking and eating, and has behavioural problems. She loves to go out for a coffee and a cake so that's what we do, when we visit. EVERY time we take her out, we get some kind of rude comment from either shop staff or other members of the public. OHs mum might be mentally and physically disabled, but she's not so far gone that she doesn't know what's being said about and to her, and it distresses her terribly. You can't go through life insulting and being rude about other people - what's the need, and what does anyone gain from it?)

sorry i never ment to offend at all. But is seems more and more exctable for poor service and bad behaviour to be tolerated in this country...

im not young but not old either... but i was brought up to respect my elders. to be poilite, and im the annoying soul who will bless you if you sneeze.......(hubby and kids laugh at me for this)
manners are in very short supply with so many... and its a shame. please, thank you and a smile... cost nothing but bring such joy...

I know not all young are yobs and not all yobs are young....

But i do wonder what kind of parent's these 'yobs' will be??? and how they would feel and react if someone they cared about was treated/spoken about in this way???

hee hee, so easy to wind some of you up. Of course the 2 x kids were out of order. However, those type of comments occur everyday in every occupation, but they should be kept for the canteen ie between the 2 x girls; not on the shop floor.

Well I worked in retail for 13 years and the public are just as guilty if not more so.

I personally didn't insult/take the !!!! out of people on the shop floor, I'd do it for half an hour in the staffroom later on my break:rotfl:

Uktim29 - of couse that's fine lol, I doubt that there's a person on earth who hasn't done that. But there's a big difference between insulting someone 'behind their back', and doing it publically when either the 'victim' or other people can hear. Equally, as someone has said, when you're employed by a company you are their ambassador, and certain kinds of 'general public' behaviour (picking your nose, scratching your backside, pocket billiards, gossiping loudly, insulting people) can't be carried over into work. That's just my opinion though, although I'd like to see the company that says 'insult our customers, we think it's good for business!'.

It isn't a question of suddenly showing concern for the supermarket - posters here are defending what is morally right - in this case showing some responsibility to your employer - whomever they may be. Representing a very small company in this shocking way could have disastrous results. There have been many posts about supermarket employees being rude directly to the customer, and it has been argued that maybe in some cases it was warranted. In this particular case the 2 women were innocent targets who did not ask for abuse, a bit like hitting a stationary car!
According to what we have been told, it would seem that the 2 assistants were very much in the wrong, so wrong in fact that they were bordering on contravening our laws - which has nothing to do with supermarkets!
