Got a man coming today to change out electric meter from prepay to contract. Then I plan on looking around for who is the cheaper energy suppliers especially for electric - we hardly ever use gas except in the winter. I need to be off the computer by 10 incase he arrives. Going to go and put the clean laundry away, put the dirty washing back in the bedroom (don't particularly want a stranger seeing our dirty underwear (clean on the line is a different matter
).
I'm going to write the shopping list for the week. I need to make sure I have enough supplies for lunches in since I will be going to work with OH next week. (I think I might access these boards from work during the lunch hour - they have broadband with it being a school) DD is away next week so I only need meals for two (got to be easy as well - no way am I cooking anything too complicated after lugging computers and storage boxes of wires etc around all day!) so I am hoping that I can keep the cost of shopping down this week. I was going to go on my own tonight after tea so that OH can look after DD BUT he used the end of the tomatoes up last night so I need to go and buy some (planned tea is Chicken bake/crumble with salad) so I might as well take DD this afternoon (after the meter man has been) and she can help me carry a few bits back in her rucksack. I don't actually need that much so that should help the budget too.
Right, I'm off to finish off some bits on the comp then I need to get some jobs done before the meter man comes. :wave:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Hi all
Well, the WI market yesterday was a bit disappointing. Cakes etc which we didn't want, a stall of knitted baby things which we didn't want. So we went for a coffee and scone, by the time we'd had that I went back to the jam and marmalade stall. I wanted to buy several jars of honey, chutney, jam, marmalade, but the woman told me off because 'she'd already packed up and cashed-up'! It's supposed to be 9.30 - 12 but apparently they have to be all cleared away by 12 not sell up to 12. Anyway, she was so miserable about it I decided to annoy her and bought them anyway!! I told her I'd rather buy from her than the supermarket but she wasn't impressed. I nearly said to her 'Are you here to sell, or aren't you?'
We had cauliflower cheese later, plus a baked apple each.
I'm half-way through reading 'Shopped' by Joanna Blythman and am horrified, following on from reading 'Not on the label' by Felicity Lawrence last week. I'd like to do a complete supermarket boycott - is this feasible, do you think? Or has the supermarket shopping ethos permeated so far that it wouldn't be possible?
It might be easier for an older couple like us - we grew up before ever a supermarket existed, and we're lucky where we live because there's a weekly market and we still have some small shops around. I'd be interested in what others think.

My home made bread has over risen due to the heat!
Soup is in slow cooker and planning a home made pizza for tea.
Not a drop of milk in the house as OH has cut down deliveries and when I buy some from supermarket to tide us over HE drinks it by the pint to "use it up"!!!!!!!
Have not been able to post for the last few days as computer has every virus, worm and trojan going!"This site is addictive!"
