When their fruit and veg is half price, then it's cheap. Certain items like german salami are great.
Negatives: No shopping baskets, so you have to try and carry everything in your arms!
Their pizzas are always soggy.
they dont have baskets as taht would be another cost that would make the prices go up, also baskets do go missing, people find it funny to take a basket and walk off with it, other people get an empty box and put their shopping in it or get a trolleyNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Our lidl have a security guard Monday and Thursday when the specials come in other ones in less well off areas of the city the have the guard there every day.
Our Aldi use undercover security as I was stopped by one once, I wasn't nicking anything he was checking put items were put through till.
In Lidl I know all £20 notes don't go in till but a safe box and mine take both credit and debit cards (I know some regions only accept debit cards) so less cash in till.
The mangers are well paid and they are given the responsibilities of the shop as if it is their business - so they have to put in long hours like a convenience shop owner and I am not surprised they have to pay for stolen money if the money handling procedures were not being kept to, the manager of a franchise or an own business likewise would to take the hit.
I know people in all kinds of retail from shoe shops to hotel bars who have been required to make up money from wages where money is missing from the till balance. (The shoe shop incident the person put an extra zero on a product so it was found no money was missing and they didn't have to pay it back in the end).
I like the fact the staff are required to be fast at putting stuff through the tills even if there is an a longish queue they open a new till and I always queue less time than in our Sainsbury's when even if I am behind one person the checkout assistants are like slow motion zombies who look over every product before deciding to scan it slowly - it is hell.0 -
Re money in the till, dont they have an extra bolt that you are supposed to put on if the till is unattended.Makes getting it open harder.0

I can't believe the poor fellow is expected to fund thieves.
Surely all stores should have some kind of insurance against robbery?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Without knowing the exact ins and outs of what has happened. I would imagine that some sort of negligence allowed an opportunist to grab the money.
Retailers make provisions for thefts of this sort, but a lot of their security relies on their employees doing the right things, i.e. till lifts, closing the till drawers, till clamps etc. If he has failed to follow a published policy then it is only fair that he pay back the money.
You will also find that most retailers have a 'Compliance' policy which means they ask employees to comply in robbery & theft situations. There is a clear difference between an opportunist till theft & armed robbery.
You also tend to find that store managers are responsible for a set value of their shrink, it tends to be part of a bonus overider, for example if they earn 2k bonus but lose more than the company average in shrink then they lose X% of that bonus. Where the shrink problem is obviously an external issue, i.e. reported robberies etc then this is not taken into account when working out how much to take back from the employee.
BTW. Most LIDL store managers are on approximately £35k + Bonuses.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -

i know at aldi we didnt have them not sure about lidl though, i know what you mean we had them at sainsburys.
the employees at aldi are told to
A: call a manager to give you a cash lift which is where they will take X amount of cash in note sout of your till and count it in the office,
B: make sure you leave a certain amount of notes in you till drawer and put the rest in your box(they can only put something like £2500 in here before man)
C: If you dont have a till box get a manager to give you a cash liftIf someone thiefs your notes from your till drawer and you told the manager to give you a cash lift then you will not be liable but the manager is as you have done what you can

I Know in this case that there was too much cash in the till and it should have been lifted or something.
Lidl and Aldi have a big problem in my opinion with staffing and security. This theft happened because there was only 1 staff member on the shop floor. Just 1 in a whole supermarket!!!!! So when she went to help a 'customer' get something from a shelf, the other customer jemmied the till open with a bar.
1. Where were the other staff?
2. No CCTV
The new ALDI has build a great car park, it's so good that it's the best skatepark in the town! Lots of complaints to police etc when they are asked to leave and get some abuse.... Where are the signs I say informing people not to skate????? Can't afford them.....
Lots of boy racers in the car park at night.... Get a barrier for the entrance ... Can't afford it.
Where's the CCTV evidence for the abuse from the skateboarders??? Can't afford it......
I find them difficult to deal with.
Rant rant...
Did you know that the ALDI store was built completely from prefabricated materials trucked in from Germany!!NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
If there are problems re safety and security in the area,i would think someone should be approaching the Police to ask whather they should be considering siting a CCTV camera there. Not many retailers have outside CCTV.While there may be no evidence re abuse from skateboarders, incidents should be reported and logged.I dont think lidl is unusual in what you have described. You could find it with lots of retailers0

I work in a lidl store.. we have a bad location near a trunk road, open late and have no security whatsoever. but we cant play hardball back with the company they would just tell us to !!!!!!0
