How tight is this?????
A few months ago I was investigating a till robbery at a LIDL store. 2 blokes entered, one distracted the check out girl and the other forced the till drawer open with a crowbar and snatched £1205. Both ran off. Fingerprint evidence led to the capture of the robbers a few weeks later but no money was recovered.
I spoke to the manager this week. He said that LIDL have made him responsible and he has to pay the money back!!!!. Apparently it is in his contract. £100 per months from his wages every month for a year!
I said it's about time he looked for another post elsewhere. He recons all the supermarkets are the same.
OUCH!

A few months ago at one of their Wiltshire stores, 2 checkout girls did some shopping, paid for it and placed it in Lidl carrier bags (which they didn't pay for) result? Prosecuted for theft! even though their case was highlighted in the press, they wouldn't back down.0

Well, there's some good examples of how to maintain staff morale and ensure staff retention..............not!!!!0 -
Agree it's a terrible way to treat staff, but I'm guessing it might be related to the issue of what £1200 was doing in a till, and not put in the safe...which is the manager's responsibility.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

Guess so, but is the maanger responsible for any loss in store? What about the all the shrinkage from shoplifting? The till operator should have put the cash into the holding box below, but did'nt. so why should'nt she payNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! "Retail workers
There are additional rules for retail workers. Retail workers work in jobs which involve taking money for an employer in exchange for goods or services. Retail workers include people who work, for example, in a shop, petrol station, bank or building society, as a waiter, a bus conductor or a car park attendant.
If there is a cash shortage or missing stock due, for example, to theft by a worker or customer, your employer is allowed to make a deduction from your wages under certain circumstances. Your employer must make the deduction within a year of the loss, and must explain the reasons for the deduction to you in writing. The deduction cannot be more than 10% of your gross pay (that is, your pay before tax has been deducted), on any single pay day. If there is a larger amount to be repaid, your employer can carry the balance over until your next pay day, but can never deduct more than 10% on each pay day. They can continue to do this until the full amount has been repaid.
If you are leaving your job your employer can deduct the full amount owed from your final wage."
Most decent retailers only apply this where the employee is suspected of involvement in the theft.0 -
As far as I am aware, that is fairly normal practice when it's been shown that the manager failed to follow correct procedure. In this case, the manager should have made sure there was not such a large amount of cash in the till. Although it could be argued that the cashier was at fault, ultimately, responsibility lies with the manager. He gets paid more to take on that extra responsibility. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

If the people get caught the manager whould sue the criminals that did this. I am a strong beliver that crimnals must pay for there actions either be seizing goods or property or by making them work it off. Having said that is the manager is paying £100 per month they must be on a good salary.0

Wasn't it LIDL who banned an old lady from the store because she pushed her trolley the 'wrong' way through the checkout? I hate the fact that LIDL make it virtually impossible to get out the store without buying anything. My local one usually only has one till open so the only way to get out without buying something is to ask all the people in the queue to back up! The stock is hilarious though. My local store is in a very poor area of London and they have hoof picks and hoof oil for sale! The only horse I've seen in the area had a policeman sitting on it!0
