bunking_off wrote:This was intended to be a joke, wasn't it? There aren't many things you can do like for like comparisons on, because Lidl inherently tend to sell unbranded/German branded stuff. However;
- on the few things that are like for like, they're often considerably cheaper - e.g. pricing on bulk boxes of weetabix are comparable to Makro/Costco pricing than Tesco
- on non-branded things, they seem to be pretty much always cheaper...beans <10p, beans & sausage <20p, kidney beans 12p (I've seen at 7p at one time), yogurts - cheaper & nicer, beer - comparable but nicer German stuff, ice cream mars...12 for what Tesco charge for 4, cola - they're own brand stuff is 40p/2litre and up to Pepsi/Coke quality, unlike Tescos which tastes like soap.
.
Trouble is, I found that by the time I drove elsewhere to get the other stuff they did'nt stock, I'd lost my savings in fuel.
I do like some of their stuff though. I would recommend
German salami, whole.
Their chocolate puddings for 19p.
Extra virgin olive oil at £1.79 is the cheapest anywhere.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Yes, some of the bargains go by ten past 9....my wife jokes about me going to do battle with the pensioners...
My brother does the maintenance on some of their stores....he hates Monday/Thursday mornings because when he goes in the shop early he's forever being harangued by grannies accusing him of jumping the queue to steal all the bargains.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -

having read your thoughts on Lidl's nothing suprsies me, I am part of a team who have set up a website dedicated to the abuses of Lidl's on both staff and customers, they break the law every single day.
It's true by the way that when you sign a contract with them it contains a provision for making you pay for any loses, and yes 70+ hour weeks are also common throughout.
Anyway if you want to find out more information on what actually goes on at yoru local Lidl's take a look at www.lidl.org.uk we have provided some solutions on how people can stop being bullied, abused and ripped off by Lidl's.
If any of you have any questions feel free to email us, as are aim is purely to educate and help people who have bad experiences of lidl's
I hope you all don't mind me posting on here, and thanks for your time.

if they are short in their takings then they have to make up the difference as well ....and again they're not allowed to have the excess either.
One guy lost alot (and I mean alot) of money and had to make it up out of his wages over a couple of weeks.2014 Target;

bunking_off wrote:Agree it's a terrible way to treat staff, but I'm guessing it might be related to the issue of what £1200 was doing in a till, and not put in the safe...which is the manager's responsibility.
£1200 isn't a lot to have in a till. Take off £100 for a float. Do you expect a manager to empty each and every till every 5-15 customers? People would never get served...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
when i was at aldi we were told to only keep a certain amount of cash in notes in the till drawer i think its something like £250, and then all the other notes will go into the cash box under the till and the till box can only hold a certain amount in say something £1000 and then they need to get a manger to empty the box or to take the notes straight from the cash drawer and take it into the office, we were warned to regulary empty the till coz if someone prised open the drawer like what the OP described then we the till operator would be liable and possibly the manager at the time would be liable, the store also has a certain amount of stock loss they are able to lose, also stock takes if there is a big loss the manager will get a rollockingHermia wrote:Wasn't it LIDL who banned an old lady from the store because she pushed her trolley the 'wrong' way through the checkout? I hate the fact that LIDL make it virtually impossible to get out the store without buying anything. My local one usually only has one till open so the only way to get out without buying something is to ask all the people in the queue to back up! The stock is hilarious though. My local store is in a very poor area of London and they have hoof picks and hoof oil for sale! The only horse I've seen in the area had a policeman sitting on it!
you dont need to ask everyone to back up just ask the till operator to open the till gate behind or infront so you can get outN9eav wrote:By the way which would be better, ALDI or LIDL. We have a new ALDI opening. I heard this though. They were offering jobs st £8 an hour for shop assisitants. believe me lidl staff are treated like dirt.
i stuck it out for a year before leaving. managers are few and far between. managers tend not to last more than 3 months at stores. and are treated like dirt by higher management.
as for the food, i wouldnt touch it with a bargepole. see my prev post somewhere about the manky chickens.There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
My experience of shopping at Lidl has been nothing but positive. The staff are really hard working and always pleasant. On the one occasion I purchased a faulty product (valued at £20+) it was replaced immediately, with an apology, on production of the receipt.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0
