jw, if that's really what a manager at Lidl gets, you should seriously consider working for Aldi.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

I have friends who manage for Tesco, they would never have to pay out dosh if they were robbed. I still think it's disgracefull. They smashed the drawer open with a crow bar in front of the cashier. Are they supposed to start fighting with them for the companies money?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Not that I agree with Lidl's position, but the answer is probably "no, but they're supposed to ensure that their staff comply with company policy which is to empty the till when it contains £X". (as an example my local bakers advertise no more than £100 in till...which in reality probably means no more than £200. Lidl tends to encourage cash transactions due to not accepting Visa, but my guess would be X = 500)
Again, not in this business, but wouldn't be at all surprised if any insurance was null & void because it only covers having a certain amount of cash on premises not in the safe.
If - and it is a big if because we're all second guessing the situation - that is the case, the manager in question is pretty lucky not to have been dismissed for gross misconduct.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
According to threads I have read about Banks in the US they just hand the money over.
As the banks say the money is insured and can be replaced. But a human can't.
Any company that expects me to fight for there money they can go and take a flying leap. My life is worth way more than a few hundred in a till.

If I was the manager/cashier I would sue Lidls for not providing sufficent protection for the staff. There is no security guard in my local store, as there is in Tesco. If the company want to play hard ball so should the staff.

As far as comparison is concerned.
LIDLs seem to me to have too few staff to run the store. No security and the staff are too busy to keep an eye out for shoplifters etc. No CCTV. Not very good reallyNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
By the way which would be better, ALDI or LIDL. We have a new ALDI opening. I heard this though. They were offering jobs st £8 an hour for shop assisitants. Looked good, but then someone said, you have to pay your own tax and NI ?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

I jgave up on the 65hour weeks after one week, id rather be at home baking my own bread instead of continually buying takeaways because I dont have a life! Am now (hopefully after today's interview anyway) going into retail banking, the hours are friendlier!

P.S As for your own NI and Tax thats wrong, they do that for you. They simply pay well because you are expected to work hard, no slackers there! Its better to be a shop assistant than a manager, the hours are better! Its a good job getting paid hourly, but you do have to do all things, restocking, tills, cleaning, you dont just sit on a till all day waiting for the customers, 'get off the till and do other work as quick as possible' is the way it works!#KiamaHouse0
