no assistant manager i was the assistant manager until the manager quit.
it didnt happen all the time but went on for about a month or so in fact it was in my last few months so when i left they had neither manager or assistnat manager and just before i left the area manager quit too left htem in the poo really but if you treat staff poorly then what can they expect!

theres another difference between lidl and aldi, at aldi if they were short whether it be a store assistant or even a duty manager aldi would phone one of the other stores in the region and see if they could spare anyone for X amount of days

I Know in this case that there was too much cash in the till and it should have been lifted or something.

Lidl and Aldi have a big problem in my opinion with staffing and security. This theft happened because there was only 1 staff member on the shop floor. Just 1 in a whole supermarket!!!!! So when she went to help a 'customer' get something from a shelf, the other customer jemmied the till open with a bar.

    1. Where were the other staff?
    2. No CCTV

Did you know that the ALDI store was built completely from prefabricated materials trucked in from Germany!!

I would suggest you check your facts before posting. Aldi has CCTV in its stores. Two stores local to me both had the tills robbed on the same day. Both stores got great pics of the guy who did it. It didn't take long for the police to catch him. Bigger Aldi stores have security guards. Aldi (Hines Rd) Ipswich has, for example.

the problem with aldi is that there could sometimes be just 2 people in the store at any time, believe me ive been there myself,

This depends entirely upon the size of the store and how busy it is. Again, Hines Rd store in Ipswich never has just two people in the store at any time. It's a big Aldi, as such it has more staff.

Also, Aldi does not make staff pay back money that has been nicked out of the till. I don't know when you worked for Aldi, but what you've said is not company policy now.

  • what makes me laugh is the specials lidl staff tend to bag half the stock before it goes onto the shop floor for their family and friends so the massive queue outside have half the chance of actually getting what they came for!
what else can i recall from my time at that place hmm let me think one plus was learning a new language well the basics at least chineese immigrant used to come in after their shifts from the docks one guy used to try and teach me a new word each time lol

Without getting into a slanging match... My facts are correct for the area I live in. I cannot speak for Ipswich as it's 400 miles from here. The issues I raised are specific to my location and LIDL and ALDI do very little to help themselves. It is not the Police job to provide security for their premises.

Tesco and ADSA are very good however with dealing with things. The reason the boy racers now hang out in Aldi is beacuse ASDA made them leave with barriers and outside car park CCTV. ALDI claim the cost is too high and want me to patrol their car park when they have gone home..... Yeah right!
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

N9eav-I am a bit surprised at some of your postings-isnt this stuff confidential? and isnt a police Officer supposed to "protect life and property, without fear or favour"? A large Asda store probably could easily justify this cost, while, i presume a much smaller store could find it difficult to get head Office to agree.I am not taking sides,I do think Lidl have many shortcomings though.

This part of your initial post was not location specific, hence my saying you should check out your facts. If you're speaking about your area only, then say so. Don't generalise. Nobody said it was a police job to provide security for the stores. It is a police matter to catch criminals once a crime has been committed, however.

  • 6:30 am to 11;30 pm that was my shift till the day i left and i left when i hurt my back that was a good few years ago now and i still have a bad back i cant lift my son more than a couple of minutes before i hae to put him back down!

oh yes and the fact that when i did have a day off i was expected there at 6:30 am to open up and at 11:30 to shut the place up

By the sounds of things you were running the store? Doesn't say that you were unorganised as a manager working those kind of shifts?

    Its not expected from anyone

As for the bad back... Did you not follow Manual handling guidlines?

well i was there until like a month ago, i dont recall being told that if my till was robbed when i hadnt put sufficent amount of cash into the box that i would have to pay the amount that was taken out of my own cash
