Also people who had a new 3G phone make sure you request a 3G sim as they did not bother sending one to me and 3G wont work without it. Also being sent out.

I have today got the Nokia N91 finally, do I need to ask o2 retentions for a new 3g sim or can I do it in the shop? is it free and how do u transfer your stored numbers etc from sim to the new sim?

    Thanks :)

    Cheers

  • That happened to me when i upgraded last year, they take pmt/card details as sort of a deposit because you normally have to call and confirm the phone is ok and you are happy... then they credit it back to you.. (sort of like the 14 day trial you get instore... )

I assumed it was because you don't ACTUALLY sign a new contract and you don't have the phone in your hand.. it doesn't seem to count as a verbal contract until you call to confirm.

I was told I could stay on the same tariff, thats Discount 500 Anytime X Net Mins and 400 Texts for £10 per month.
This is what I've been on for the last year, but they were charging me £25pm not £10! How did you manage that?

So, they have given me the following for the next year:-

    O2 Online 500 Anytime X Net Mins
    500 Texts
Line Rental = £20.00 per month
£15.00 per month tariff discount [from the original £35pm]
Yeah this is what I've been offered.

However, after speaking to Retentions this afternoon its not possible for them to discount a discount tariff....if you see what i mean!!

the £120.00 lump sum credit was added as at the moment i'm paying £10.00 for my line rentral but due to O2 not being able to discount a discount tariff anymore its went up to £20 per month so the £120.00 compensates for that increase.
The same will apply to me, and they're trying to push me onto the online 500 tariff. Do you reckon I can argue the toss about them not being able to discount my current tariff? Really, I'm quite happy with 500mins/400txts and don't need the extra 100txts. But then I guess you've been paying £10pm and I've been paying £25, so if they're already reducing it by £5pm then I guess I can't argue that I should get anything more
  • How long before your contract was about to run out did you phone, i feel this may be a major determining factor as well.

Well I get billed on 22nd of each month, but I don't know if the contract 'runs out' as such. After the 12 months, don't you just carry on the same deal on a month-by-month basis unless you ask for a change?

Way back somewhere on this thread, I'm sure I read that someone didn't call up and re-negotiate their tariff after 12 months because they were happy with it. The next bill they got (1 month after end of 12 month contract) was double the usual payment. When they called to query it they was told that the cheaper tariff was only based on a 12 month contract, as that had ended they were automatically charged what the tariff should have cost originally.

I'd recommend either calling to get a better tariff or just confirm that you want to stay on the tariff you are currently on.

Yes, I rember they told me when they offered me the discount 750 that it was only good for a year and it would revert to £35 a month instead of the £17.50 I'm getting at the moment.

Judging by the previous posts, I should be able to renegotiate the same tariff with a decent upgrade - with the added bonus that I'm actually renegotiating for 3 phones and tariffs and they'd lose three of us if they can't keep us happy! Will see how it goes, seems it depends on who you get to speak to.
  • can u phone them now-my contracts due to end Aug04 but so excited to see what i could get!?

I would wait till end of July before calling them. Even if they do work out a great deal for you now, you can't guarantee they will write a note on your account for renewal time. Also it helps if you find a deal online that you are happy with and get them to match/better it.

    Hi Folks,

Glad to see so many people making use of the thread and getting great deals. With regards to the above posts Katrina-trying to save if you want to call the now the Retention Team may like Shelly has pointed out may not make a note of a deal they have offered you on your account notes. I called them a month or so before my Discount 500 tariff contract was up and they said they would give me the exact same deal for the following year. I got the advisors name and extn number and asked them to log our conversation in my account notes, i then called back to double check the conversation had been logged and it had.

I called the Retention Team a few days ago to take up the offer and there was no problem what so ever as the details were all on my notes. I should point out to those on the Discount 500/750 tariff that O2 will no longer discount this tariff further, what i mean by that is that the price of the Discount 500 tariff is £25 per month and the Discount 750 is £35. I got them to put me onto the Online 500 Anytime X Net with 500 Texts with a £15 per month discount = £20 per month but got a further £120.00 credit on top of the £100.00 re sign credit to balance what I was originally offered when i called.

Online 500 Anytime X Net Mins
    500 Texts
    £15.00 per month discount
    £120.00 lump sum credit
    £100.00 resign credit

    £35.00 - £15.00 line rental discount (£20.00 per month) X 12 months = £240.00 - £220.00 Credits = £20.00 year or £1.66 per month!!!
