The way I got the offer was to wait to be offered it rather than asking! I started at CS, asking for a PAC number. When I was then passed to Retentions, I repeated my request for a PAC number. The guy asked how come and said that I got a better offer with Three and gave him the details - 500 anytime xnet plus 100 text. He asked if I had actually signed up and I said no. He quickly said that he would match it. I said Ok but what about a phone upgrade to as the Three offer included a new Nokia - now we're negotiating! We agreed on a SE K750 for £30 instead of £80. You've got to convince the person that they've got to convince you to stay by beating / matching Three's offer. You can always say "Oh, well, I think I'll just have my PAC number then" as you can always call back and try again.

I found it straightforward but I guess it depends on who you end up speaking to.

Did they confirm the offer in writing though> many people have been let down afterwards by taking their word at the beginning but with no proof afterwards

    Hello Folks,

Spoke with O2 Retentions re a new deal for the following year.

I originally called on the 12 May to find out what I could get and was told I could stay on the same tariff, thats Discount 500 Anytime X Net Mins and 400 Texts for £10 per month with a £100 re sign credit.

However, after speaking to Retentions this afternoon its not possible for them to discount a discount tariff....if you see what i mean!!

So, they have given me the following for the next year:-

    O2 Online 500 Anytime X Net Mins
    500 Texts
    £100.00 re sign credit
    £120.00 lump sum credit
    £15.00 per month tariff discount
Line Rental = £20.00 per month

    £20.00 per month x 12 months = £240.00 - £220.00 Credit = £20.00 for the year.

I am going to call them tomorrow re the 500 text messages as I have managed to get a copy of the advisors notes she entered on my account and it doesn't mention the 500 Texts so going to get this confirmed.

Will keep you posted - Overall a great deal :)

Wow, how did you manage to get them to offer you that? did you tell them that you'd found a better deal somewhere else or something?

What do you mean by re-sign credit? did they just give you that for taking out a contract for another year, or did you not get a mobile phone upgrade?

    Cheers,

    Huw

TBH.. The best thing to do is just not back down until you get what you want. I tell them things like i've refered people to O2 and also advised people to call Retentions who were thinking of leaving O2, i guess it gives you more brownie points. Oh, and one other thing always be polite. Its amazing how far it can get you.

I never took a new handset thats why I was offered the re sign credit of £100.00 and the £120.00 lump sum credit was added as at the moment i'm paying £10.00 for my line rentral but due to O2 not being able to discount a discount tariff anymore its went up to £20 per month so the £120.00 compensates for that increase.

Going to phone them later on re the 500 Free Texts.

Have a look below and you will see the notes the advisor has left on my account, i would advise anyone who is doing a deal with retentions to call customer services afterwards and get them to e-mail you a copy of the notes for your reference.

cust called to take up offer to stay on same deal last year...cust was told by CSA on 12/5/2006... spoke to T/L as this deal impossible to do T/L advised have to honour this as was offered... actioned by o2 online.. 500 with #15 off subs... and actioned remaining.. #10 /mth... as lump sum credit.. of #120.. with resign credit.. of #100... cust aware of 12 mth contract...

Just been offered on one of my o2 contracts (partners phone), which if im going to cancel needs notice giving tomorrow, (currently £30 per month 200 xnet minutes and 100 texts)
a free Samsung E900 (he likes slid phones)
    25 xnet minutes
    225 texts
    for just £6 per month.
If wanted the phone could be changed for a £75 credit to the account.
The other option was the phone and texts as above but 50 minutes for £9 per month. With this option the phone could be changed for £100 account credit.

For some the above may seem not too good maybe but he is a low user and it would cover his needs.

Which phone if given the choice of any at all would be the bestest top phone to have? The reason im asking is because im considering with my contract to sell the upgrade phone and just keep the sim.
Ive been offered £15 per month 200 xnet minutes and 300 texts and a choice of phones free including E900. Currently i pay £30 per month for 200 minutes and 100 texts.
Is it likely that i would be able to have the lower option like my partner and pay £6 per month do you know?
Why would they in effect with the first option with my partner pay you?
If they are going to charge him £6 per month but if he didnt want the phone pay him £75 credit they are not going to make anything!!!
I do know about cashback deals etc and understand with that they hope you forget to send in the bills etc but whats the point of them doing this credit so you get the whole year free?
Ive rambled on a bit now, better post this as shes ringing back at 6pm so i need ot know what to say or do.

Thanks everyone for all the useful info in this thread (inc. the 0800 number)

Is everyone taking out 18 month contracts to get these deals, or just 12 months? If you take an 18 month contract, do you have to wait the full 18 months before being able to upgrade the handset again?

I got put on Discount 500 this time last year for £25pm, with free 400 texts bolt-on. So far I've been offered 500min/500txt for £20pm. I said I'd think about it.......and I'll call back for another attempt :)

My last day to cancel so ive jsut phoned up to take the offer which was quoted to me yesterday. A lady from o2 phoned yesterday and offered 2 options (which ive quoted a few posts back) and said she would phone back later last night to give time to decide. As i was already speaking on the phone she left a message and said she owuld ring back in 1/2 hour. Anyway she didnt and i tried ringing them but they said they had technical difficulties last night and to ring back today.
On phoning today, what a waste of time. Today i got told that the £6pm option was 25 minutes and 25 texts. Im sure i heard the other lady say 225 texts yesterday so i said that wouldnt be good enough and said i would have to cancel. She went and had a word with someone and came back to say in this instance we will gove you 200 free texts making 225. I then asked for the E900 which yesterday was told we could have and today this lady says theres a problem with them and they havent got any. They should have them in a couple of weeks. So i couldnt cancel as i wouldnt be in a position to haggle for a new phone etc and so will have to pay £30 pm for our 2 contracts until they get the phones in we want. I asked about moving down the monthly tarriff while waiting for stock and she said it would be easier to stay as you are.
The phone im thinking of getting, Nokia N80 she said is not due in until the middle of July.
So iits going to be a waiting game now and im going to be paying 2 x £30 a month until stock is in instead of £6 on one and £15 on the other (i was offered 200 minutes and 300 texts for £15 as i use more minutes).
  • Hi all, can I just say all the information you have given has been brilliant. I've been on the online 50 at £19.99/month for a year and decided to go for a phone upgrade and wanted the w810i. I spoke to some bloke who told me it would cost £90 which i refused because it was saying free on the website. I told him if i want that phone i would just cancel my contract and then just sign up again as a new customer. He then brought the price down to £39.99 and i told him that wasnt good enough and that i was gonna go and explore other tariffs from tmob etc.
I then rang up a few days later and told them i wanted to cancel my contract and they asked why and i said bcos tmob were offering me 200mins and 300msg for £20/month and the fone i wanted for alot cheaper. The lady straight away offered me the online 200 tariff for £15/month but couldnt give me a price on the fone bcos it was out of stock and asked me to ring back a week later. I did and they again offered me the online 200 package but told me the fone would now be £149.99!! I of course queried this saying at one time it was offered to me for £39.99 at which the bloke agreed to honour that price.
However they are charging me in a weird kinda way and just wanted to check the maths work out because im kinda slow at this kinda thing. The online 200 is £360/year and i have been offered that at half price £180. They have credited my account with £120 and will only take £25/month for my bill or a saving of £60/year. So 120 + 60 = 180 which is correct and i have no problem with that.
However instead of just taking payment for £39.99 for the phone they have taken a payment of £149.99 but have again credited my account with a further £110 which in theory means the phone only cost £39.99, but means my account has £230 credited to it. If anyone is good with maths what does that mean i will actually be debited a month and does it actually work out right or have i been conned because im crap at maths. Sorry for the post being so long.
