Can't get them to give me any free texts at all. I've got the Discount 750 for £17.50 a month, but they say there's no way they can allow any more than 100 texts on it, and it's not available on that tariff. Then she said something about the people I'd quoted getting texts must be on an internet tariff.

Any ideas how I can get some texts? The best I've got is a bolt on of 50 for £3

Did get the SE 700i for free with it though, so no complaints with the tariff or phone.

Cheers to everyone for posting about the Discount 500 and 750, they certainly weren't going to offer it to me unless I knew about it, and we've been on a business tariff with them for years. Even then I had to quote the people here to get it on the £17.50 rate.

I'm on the Online Discount 500 Tariff so that may be the case why your not getting the texts.

Can anyone else confirm if they are on the Online Discount 500 and got the Free Texts??

Can people on the offline tariff also advise whether they got free texts

Yep, I am on the online tariff, and got 400 texts.

I was originally on the old Genie Mobile tariff at £10.00 per month as well and changed to Discount 500.
I too am on the old genie tariff and still am because they say that they can't upgrade me because i'm not on contract I've been past from pillar to post within the 02 network and the best that I can get is 200 X network calls & 1000 texts for £25 a month which is poor compared to the one's discussed on this forum. Can anyone help.

As I remember it there was also a pre-pay Genie sim available, I was referrring to the Genie monthly contract tariff. If you have the pre-pay one then no you are not on a contract and I doubt they will start offering this tariff to pre-pay customers (that would be a shed load of people?).....but you can keep trying!!

There was a Genie Pre Pay Sim Card long time ago that gave you unlimited text messages before O2 took over them.

Very unlikely that if you top up your phone by top voucher they will give you anything exciting.

I would say that I've heard O2 Pre Pay Retentions offer something calls Bolt-on 500 which gives you 500 X Network anytime mins for approx £23.50 per month.

    Hope this is of help
  • Hi everyone. This is my first post even though I have been a regular visitor to MSE.
First of all, thanks to everyone who've contributed advice and their views on the chat forum. I have saved myself a small fortune eg free O2 sim for the family, discount codes and numerous freebies. What prompted me to write is because I managed to get my fav phone FREE from O2.
My current O2 contract ends in September so call them to see if I can upgrade to a 6680.They want £259 for it, so I searched the web and found that only Three are offering it free with a reasonable contract(Talk 600/12mon). But I've heard that Three's coverage is quite patchy and calls are dropped regularly.
But thanks to MSE, I phone O2 again only this time I asked to get my PAC.They transferred me to Retention and offered me the phone FREE with Discount500 for £15/month on 12 month contract. And I can start the new contract from August(one month early). I was over the moon but then I remembered they didnt mention anything about free texts. So I phoned them again but they wont change it. I dont really text very much(25-30 a month) so I wasnt too bothered. I am one happy chappy(02 Aug).

THANKY YOU MSE. A Great Site!

    Rob

PS I have just recieved the 6680(04/08) and phoned O2 again to haggle for some free txt but they only offered me 50txt for an extra £3. Worked out to be 6p a txt which is better than paying 12p. So my monthly bill is now £18.

    Seaniboy,

The O2 Online section of the website appears to be playing up.

Like yourself my tariff changed over to the Discount 500 on my billing date but it also showed me getting my old tariff of 50 Off Peak Mins everyday, I spoke to O2 who tell me that the site will get updated on your second bill.

So for me, that would be the 24 Aug when I should only see the Discount 500 tariff and the old Genie tariff will be gone

Hi i went to phones4u in Ipswich last wednesday and they had the Nokia 6680 on 3 for free and 3 months half price line rental. I have been on 3 before and not wanting to say anything bad about them they were ****! Calls dropping out and no battery life on the first phones that they brought out. I popped along to o2 and asked them if they had the phone and as i was a o2 cutomer could i upgrade to it. NO NO NO - only if you pay £199 and take out an 18 month contract. So i thought no way. I found this thread online and have to say it has saved me £100's of pounds. I call o2 this morning and say that i would like to end my contract and have my PAC code and guess what- yep they offer me a FREE Nokia 6680 and £15 per month for 500 anytime X network minutes and a new 12 month contract. I am over the moon to say the least. I would definately reccomend this website to family and friends. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!!!!!!!! :j :j :j
