Called O2 again today and got straight through :) Spoke to a helpful guy who explained because my monthly spend is under £25 I'm in one of the lowest bands, hence only get offered the cheaper phones. They still don't know what W810i pricing will be and W800i would be £50 so I decided to stick with my Samsung D500 and get a free Motorola PEBL to sell on the bay for £150ish.

I've gone from Online 50 at £19/month to O2 100 (100 xnet mins, 500 texts) at £10/month so am pleased with that at least.

I'm on the Online 50 at the moment, my contract is due to end in May and I was hoping for a cut in the monthly price as well as an upgrade. I've got the K750i which I originally bought for £50 when the phone first came out but I'm not sure what they'll be offering me as an upgrade (if anything at all?) What do you think? The o2 100 deal sounds very good, will certainly be worth aiming for that come May!

If you don't spend any/much more than you pay in line rental you'll be in the low band like me so will only be offered the poorer spec phones for free. It *might* be worth spending a bit more than normal in your last month as they *might* only look at the last month to determine your band. I say this as they said I usually only spend under £20, when in fact for most of the year I've spent around £25, just the past couple have been under £20.

You can pay for the better ones if you want to (S-E W800i would have been £50 for me). I just went for the free one with the highest ebay value and am going to keep my Samsung D500 and hope it doesn't break!
  • phoned up yesterday after reading this board, i currentl yhave two contracts with them one for me and one for the wife we`re both currently on
pretty low tarriffs and i threatened to leave to three!!

Its true what ive been reading "three" is the magic number!! :T

Although im on a lower tarriff i have got

    a new samsung d600
    500 anytime any network minutes
    300 texts

    all for £17.50 a month.

which i thought was rather good considering the first guy i spoke to offered me 500 mins & no texts for £25 a month and on top i would have to pay £69.99 for the samsung d600.

Well Chuffed! Cheers to the Original Poster!!

i've given up on o2 directly i rang numerous times and didnt really like the handsets they were offering. i wanted w800i, said it would be full price £30 pm line rental and the handset would maybe be free. i told them i'd seen a deal with the link free w800i and 1/2 price line rental for 9 months, i asked if they would match it, the woman at o2 was very unhelpful and said no we dont do deals like that they are via redemption, so what, i thought, i know that??!? so i've gone with the link, but judging by the welcome letter it looks like at the end of 12 months i will get full o2 discount entitlement...that remains to be seen though......so not overly impressed with o2's efforts to get me to stay with them. btw the w800i is a cracker wee phone :-)

I usually spend around £23 each month so guessing I'll be a low user like yourself. If they can't offer me a decent upgrade then I'll keep my fingers crossed for a cheaper tariff anyways and get the free phone like yourself. Not interested in paying for a handset as I'm trying to control my monthly spending and the K750 is nice enuff for now.
    Thanks for the information :)

I was a 6 month sim online customer only. Also kept within my tarriff, never overspent and got offered the W800i for free with £15 per month for 200 xnet and 500 texts.
Like a lot of other posters, it took 3 rounds of phone calls and a little bit of haranging. Used a virgin 'clearance deal' on the W800i for them to price match.... obviously didnt tel them it was clearance :)
Got David in O2 retentions, and he was very helpful. Always managed o get him everytime i called.....
Is the glass half full, or half empty??
