  • ok.... spoke to paula at retentions and told her i phoned on weds asking to buy out of my contract,

however on weds david offered me 400mins and 500txts for £30. wasnt rlly happy with this but accpeted it anyway, spoke to her today after reading the lastest on here and she said because i was only with 02 from aug in order to receive anymore discount i would have 2 buy out for £175 or wait untill aug.

so really unless your with them for more than a yr nuffin can be done. but i was able to get more mins and txts from david on weds for a cheaper monthly charge than i was paying before, which wasnt too bad, but im raging...

ive give 02 £300 in 2mths through my phonebills and they say "no wait until august...."

  • After weighing up my options....finally decided to get in touch with o2 retentions this morning...would welcome any advice on next steps???!!!

Currently paying £45 a month (sim only) for 800mins and 2000texts - great deal I know but only using about 500 of the texts.

Have always had contracts with o2 - right back to BT Genie days and have always been a high volume user

Spoke to them today, hoping for something along the lines of the discount 750 tarriff - was offered the 750 mins for £20/month but nothing in the way of text messages except a 400 bolt on for another £16.

Worth being persistent with the text messages???

    Any thoughts gratefully recieved!

I think what you need to do is the same as I did. I found a deal online I wanted and told the retentions team if they didn't match it I'd cancel and go elsewhere. The 1st deal I was offered was 75 anytime minutes and 200 texts for £19 per month. I found a better deal elsewhere and called back and asked them to match it. I got 200 anytime minutes and 500 texts for 15 per month. So I think it pays to shop around and then threaten to cancel.

my current contract with 02 runs out jun 06.

i am currently on a contract called anytime 100, paying £15p/m - as i get a £10 p/m disc on my line rental.

is it too early to try and cancel?
    any tips greatfully rec'd.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

Yes its too early to cancel. Unless you want to pay any fees you might incur. You want to call roughly 30 days before your contract runs out as if they don't offer you a deal you're happy with you can give 30 days notice. If you are late in cancelling you will most likely have to pay a further months costs as you have gone into a new month IYKWIM.

  • i rang to cancel my o2 contract today and have already got new contract with orange with nokia 7370. 9 mths half price line rental - £15 for 9 mths and 3 mths @£30 , 200 mins no txts. i really wanted the phone so i think this is good deal. anyway i had no sooner cancelled with o2 when one of the managers or supervisors rang me and siad how valuable i was and they didnt really want to lose me. to be honest i would have stayed with o2 only they didnt have the phone i wanted. so he told me i was entitled to quite a bit of discount and he would keep my o2 number active for 12mth with 25 mins and 25 txts for free!!!! and in 12 mths time i will still be entitled to the discount... i was quite taken aback and said ok :-)

This is NEW!! Certainly an excellent way to retain customers who have got a new contract with another network, giving them the opportunity to return to O2 when they want - Excellent Customer Service :)
  • Called O2 today as current contract is in month 11 - had bought an orange deal from e2save the other day (doh!) and then decided to (after reading this thread- thanks Matrix :T) give them a call and see what they could offer me.

Ended up getting converted from Online 50 to Online 200 for £15 p/m instead of £19 and getting 200 anytime Xnet mins and 500 texts instead of 50 mins and 300 texts. Also got a Motorola V3i phone for free too.

Really decent guy I spoke to - and was appreciative of fact when I told him that he might offer me all this and then do the dirty on me - received my emails within minutes of hanging up confirming phone was on its way, but think I will need to keep an eagle-eye on my online account to make sure that all is going to go through okay and I'm not going to get shafted.

Just need to send back the phone to e2save and cancel that one now - I see there is something about their 7 day returns policy so hopefully that won't be too difficult to sort out or I'll be in a bit of bother with two contracts running

Cheers for helping me get a better deal
