Thanks very much. I must be going mad as I meant to type that I'm an instore customer, not online - sorry!

Anyway, could I still do the above, or would I need to ring the main customer services number for instore?

So long as your an O2 instore customer you can call that number and choose option 1 which will put you through to the offline retention team and still use the above story to get a better deal.

Please come back to the post and report your outcome of the call - Thanks
  • Once again, I really do owe you a big thanks.

Just called them, and I have been offered the discount 500 tariff for £12.50. This doesn't include any texts (I think this must be because I'm an instore customer), but they said they would put a bolt-on on the tariff, making it £17.50 a month for 100 texts and 500 minutes, and the phone I wanted (Samsung E350 - it's cute!).

Currently I pay £25 a month for the same except the minutes are off-peak only to landlines & 02, and on this new tarriff they're anytime, any network. This would be particularly useful to me at the moment because my boyfriend and I are househunting and I keep having to ring my voicemail and estate agents during the day.

So I think this is a good deal - what do you think?

This is an excellent deal - Well Done :)
  • I would not have even thought of bartering had it not been for this thread, so thank you :)
  • hi
i just rang O2 retentions and was told to ring back on 11th Feb, 1 mth b4 contract expires (on 11th March) and they'll see what they can do.
i got my phone from onestopphoneshop and am on o2 200 at £30 per month. the agent at 02 didnt seem to say anything about not having got my phone directly from them, so i presume i'll be eligible for all the deals y'all are getting?
what other offers should i say i've seen that are current?

If there telling you to call back you must be a direct customer of the network which for you is good news as if your phone is billed by the Carphone Warehouse then these deals won't be available.

I was sure that OSPS were part of CPW as well...hmm

Advice needed - really dont know what to do now! My contract expired in January. I am on O2 Online 50 (50 mins and 500 texts for £19) with a Nokia 6230. I have been waiting for the Nokia 6280 to be released but just phoned O2 and they say it will not be available until March. It was originally January, then February - now March! I have also been looking at the Nokia N80 (should be released about April/May). I dont know whether to:
    • Wait for the 6280.
    • Phone O2 retentions and try and renegotiate a new contract with a new phone - then sell the phone in a few months time to buy the N80.
    • or cancel my contract and wait for the N80 - is it possible to just start a new contract with O2 online later if I have been a previous customer?

Anyone got any advice for me?

O2 don't like to make the newest bestest phones available for upgrade! If you cancel your contract now, you may not get as good a tariff later on in the year (the new Online 50 now has fewer texts).
Either wait for the N80 to be released (but expect to pay something for it as an upgrade) and renegotiate you tariff at the same time. Or, you could get the best phone available with a renegotiated tariff, sell it now (while it's still got a good re-sale value) and put the money aside until the N80 is available elsewhere.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
