OK, I've signed up for another year with o2

    £100 credit for the handset
put onto the o2 200 tariff but at £15/month
    200 xnet mins
    400 txt
including ITS and rollover (which i believe is included in o2 200 anyway)
1 txt abroad takes 4 txt credits.

So that really works out as £6.67 per month. I'm happy.

Hi, I have been reading thru this post and see that ppl have got some good deals from O2.

I have been a PAYG customer for about 7 years with O2, had the current number for about 2/3 years now. Have recently been considering moving to contract as my usage has increased, however still not found right deal for me. Want about 300/400 xnet mins and 150/200 txts. For less than £30 a month on a 12month contract.

If i phone the retentions unit are they likely to be able to offer me anything as i have been PAYG customer for so long, or do they only offer you cheaper contracts if you already been on a contract.

Thanks in advance for any help

    Katie

they do a 'call 500' bolt on for pay as you go customers which gives you 500 anytime any network mins for £23.50. It's not an advertised bolt on, but very good value if you use a lot of mins. The only downside is no texts and no new phone like you would get on contract

Sorry, I didn't intend my post to be read in that way. It was a genuine thank you for posting the O2 online retentions number (several times earlier in the thread in response to others' enquiries) which I successfully used to get my new deal. Whilst I was on the phone to O2 the operator told me that as I was not an online customer I should have used the other number.

Apologies if my previous comment was taken to be sarcastic.

Thats ok, wasn't very sure what was going on :)

Good to hear you got a good deal!
  • Crikey - what a great thread!

My 02 contract expires this week and I would like to negotiate a better deal. I've been with 02 forever but unfortunately they don't count my first 3 years, which were with the old BT Cellnet via the Carphone Warehouse. Then I changed my number and I think I have "officially" been with 02 for about 3 years.

I am an instore customer and I spend about £35 a month. My tarriff includes 500 off-peak minutes, 100 units (for WAP) and 100 texts. I would like to get something similar for cheaper - and a new handset because mine is starting to play up.

There are a lot of useful tips on this thread already and I guess the best thing to do is to call them up rather than walking into the store? Or do I go to the store, armed with printouts from the web of other tarriffs? I hope they don't call my bluff as I don't actually want to leave 02 at all....!!

    Hello!!

Thanks for reading my thread and i'm glad your finding the postings useful.

Its always better to phone O2 Retentions when your contract expires as they will negotiate a better deal with you if your thinking of leaving.

The contract you have at the moment, is that with the CPW or O2 Direct?

Hi, my contract is with 02 direct, but online not instore.

My only worry is that if I try to haggle and fail they may say "OK then, go to Orange/3/Vodafone" when the truth is, I don;t really want to!

Its good that your on O2 online as i'm aware that an online customer seems to get more texts when negotiating a better deal.

Ok, here is what to do. Phone 0870 600 7102 and tell the advisor that your thinking of leaving O2 to go to 3 as you have been offered a deal of 500 x network mins and 200 texts. The advisor should offer you the discount 500 tariff and an amount of text messages. If they dont offer you the tariff just say that one of your friends called up and got the discount 500 tariff, basically just ask for it.

I've negotiated deals for my colleagues at work and when i phone up i just say can you put them onto the Discount 500 tariff and they won't leave the network. The charge for this package is £25 per month but they normally give you between £5-£10 line rental discount.

The will offer you a list of phones to choose from as well, remember when you get your new phone you commited for a further 12 months contract.

Thanks very much. I must be going mad as I meant to type that I'm an instore customer, not online - sorry!

Anyway, could I still do the above, or would I need to ring the main customer services number for instore?
