KA7e - I'm in much the same position. I've been with 02 for well over 10 years and I'm looking to upgrade to to N70. I'd be interested to know what sort of of deals they have on offer. I spoke to them a few months ago about upgrading but wasn't too happy with the phones they offered. I'm currently on a Leisure Tariff - 500 free minutes and 100 texts - £20.00 a month. I don't use many of my minutes so would like to get more texts and less minutes.
I'm just waiting for my December bill to turn up as I was unhappy with their text service on Christmas Day. I tried many times to send messages and I kept getting "message not sent - try later" - which I did. Now I find that all my messages were in fact sent - so I'm going to be charged/or they will come off my free text allowance. I'm not happy about this.
I've not really looked around to see what else is available from other operators, but I know I could get better deals.0 -
Finally got through to O2 today and haggled a deal for my tarrif and upgrade, got offered the discount 500 which pretty much let me have any online tarrif at £10 off p/m but when trying to upgrade to the N70 I was told no chance of getting it less than £109 nor was I offered the insurance with it for free which my mate managed to get on monday.
As previously posted my total bill is normally averaging between 25-30 p/m which aint a great deal compared to most but there was no chance i'm paying that amount for an upgrade phone when its £50 for new customers.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try in order to lower the cost of the handset? I know I wont get it for nada but no way im paying £109.
Cheers0 -

Did you speak to retentions or just customer services? You have to threaten to leave O2 and go elsewhere.
My son just negotiated a deal with retentions after being told it would cost £120 to upgrade to a V3i. He then phoned back and spoke to retentions, mentioned a deal elsewhere and ended up with the phone for £30 with a 100 anytime minutes & 500 texts for £10pm.0 -
Yup it was retentions i called,i was fairly persistent and even asked for my pac code which is when the lady came back with an improved tarrif but the phone was still the same price.SHe claimed that she could not give me it any cheaper due to my average spend.
Not sure whether to bite the bullet and tell them im wanting to cancel my contract in order to reap the rewards of alternative deals as they may just agree and tell me to sling my hook.0 -
student handsets are usually a minimum of £25 cheaper on contract

02 upgrade.. After reading this thread and studying my options, I decided to contact 02 cust. srvces. and discuss what deal they could do for me. Bearing in mind I already spoke to them about 2 weeks ago and the best offer they gave me was 02 100 = 100mins 100txts @£17.50 pm.plus new handset.Or 200mins & 250 txts +HS.@£24.
I am currently paying £25 pm for the 02 100 but also I am supposed to receive a 20% loyalty discount off my line rental which I have not received since May 05.
Having spoken to the Cust svces they accept there has been a problem and promised to rectify this by giving me the necessary credits up to this month. After this transaction they then said we need to transfer you to our retention dept.
After holding I spoke to them and explained that I was not happy with my current tarriff and was looking at other networks.
On looking at my account the 1st thing they asked me is what handset i wanted and I said i was interested in the SE W800i.Ok they said and I asked what about the discount 500 @£15 pm?Oh No they said you cant have that! You can have Disc 250 @ £15 pm.or the Disc 500 @£25pm.
I asked about txts and they said 100 txts for £5pm extra also my loyalty discount will still come off my line rental. So heres my tarriff..
Discount 250= 250 x net mins =£15 pm less 20% loyalty discount=£12 pm plus 100 txts at £5 = £17 pm.plus SE w800i handset on 12 mnth contract FOC. Also the unused minutes rollover up to 3 mnths.( I am just glad its allover!!)Its worse than moving house!!!0
