-
I am currently with 02 and have been for over 4 years, contract finished in june but still on online 500 offpeak with 500 texts and 50xnet mins which i pay approx £25-30p/m.
What would be the best way to go about getting Nokia N70 free on a minimal contract with anytime xnet mins and texts?
I have read previous posts from the start of this thread and methods have varied from july to now.0 -
Hi Chobra,
The best thing I can advise you to do is call O2 Retentions on 0870 600 7102 and explain to them that:
1. Your thinking of leaving the network as you know of better deals than your getting the now.
2. Make sure you have a deal you have seen ready as O2 will ask you what you have seen elsewhere.
3. Be prepared to be put on hold whilst the advisor plays about the figures, they will come back and make you an offer to stay.
4. Be aware that the offer they give you will depend on some factors, these can include very basic things like "Do you pay your bill on time" right through to "Are you whats known as a hvc (High Value Customer) eg: Do you spend lots of money with them.
5. Be polite with the advisor, have a laugh with them. A good thing to say is that you've always been pleased with the level of service from O2 and the network overall. This will let the advisor know that your happy customer and one that will recommend others to O2.
6. When I speak to them to negotiate deals for my friends/colleagues/relatives I say that I've recommend lots of people to the network and there all very happy.
Good Luck and keep us up to date with how things go0 -
Thats great cheers, would it be worth my while trying to go for the pac code route or would that be the last port of call?
Tried bartering with one of their colleagues last month but never got anywhere other than a poor contract and the phone down from £169-109.0 -
TBH, A phone like the N70 is going to be very difficult to get free as its just out. The most the Retentions Team will discount the phone is £50.
Have a hunt about and see what networks/shops etc are offering it free and get proof. So that the advisor at O2 can check.
I personally think your not going to get it free though but hey its certainly worth a shot!!0 -
I got N70 @ 24.99 when it was 49.99 on main site on 750 & 400 texts tariff, they would not budge on price so i got them to match it to the student site thats the best they will do I was told as very popular phone & I had to fight for that!, still cheap if your getting it on Dis 500/750 as these cost the network over £250 each ( quoted personally to me from a T-mobile area manager I know ) when bought in from o2 in massive bulk orders, if I stayed in my allowance each month @ £20 + 24.99 thats a profit from me of £14.99 for 12 months also say the 750mins o2 had to pay out to other networks were 10p each thats £75 a month x 12 = £900 per year - £14.99 = £885.01 loss, o2 make very little from me as most people text me & say call me so not much incoming revenue from my recieved calls...dont forget we need to include the texts sent to other networks are like calls - charged a handling fee per message , not a great deal for 02 revenue or the shareholders, now with these DIS 500/750 tariffs its gonna be some one who spent a few hundred £'s a month ( before 3 came on the UK mobile scene ) that they made extra out of by them going over thier allowance on these tarriffs, if your usage wasnt/isnt that high you will get a lesser deal, in fairness though o2 had £180 out of me sim only deal over 4 months before i bagged DIS 750 & 400 texts
**** not £180 per month but the total for the previous 4 months ****
so i done exceptionally well & they are giving the best retention deals of all the networks..........
see how much N70 is going for o2.co.uk/student, be realistic & ask for 1/3 off or half that price if money is an issue for you ( maybe pushing your luck there though! ) since your such a valued customer24.99 was peanuts to me = 1 month & 1/4 tariff for a top range handset on a fantastic value unbeatable tariff
the same almost like for like 12 month deal i got from o2 for £20 on a 12 month contract on Voda Internet "direct" ( ie cutting out the retailers & thier commissions) with the N70 handset free is 700mins 500 texts for £60 on 12 months, or 18 months with Stop the Clock included

having problems obtaining DIS 500/750?
call o2 say you were offered the DISCOUNT 500/750 deal when you called for your PAC code as Voda/Orange etc you got a great deal and having recieved the orange/voda/3 handset & calling for your PAC you sent the contract back within the 14 days as you were offered 500/750 but wanted/advised by staff member to go to a o2 store to check out the feel/functions of handsets before commiting yourself to another o2 contract, with a phone you later found unsuitable
" there is no notes on the account of this offer "
politely but firmly point out that what you were offered & you have it written down & have returned thier competitors new mobile contract at your inconvience because the offer from them was too good to pass or match, you are now most dissatisfied after being treated exceptionally to retain your custom (again polite but firm) that this offer has now been withdrawn and it is not your responsabilty to ensure staff make notes " perhaps they were busy & forgot ? " never make out thier failure to do so but excuse the fact there is no notes on the a/c one way or another " I used to work in a call centre, was guilty of it myself at times when it was exceptionally busy " never get the person on a defensive!!
Lastly consider mentioning this is a non published or documented tarrif and you were advised of this when it was offered to you as you had mentioned you had never seen it yourself...had you seen it you never would have ordered the Voda/3 etc contract to end up inconvienced cancelling/returning the mobile to Voda etc
Please everyone vary your reason about why you think there is no notes from your previous call because they should all be noted but its 50/50 if any department does do it, pick something you would believe yourself - if you were the o2 employee listening to you the customer, remember never get them on a defensive about failure on your notes - you love o2 and in return they will love you
Last tips - always ask the person to address you by your first name ( your on thier level, you dont need airs & grace's ), and drop there name into the conversation several times o2 employee - " can you hold sean? " me - "yeah sure, no problem micheal"
conversation is paramount... " so how is it down there today micheal? cold? " while for instance he is waiting on his computer responding - phycologically unknown to people but when you address them by name over the phone several times it registers unsubconciously and you will always get better service ( you validate that person as a person on the phone not a robot or o2 employee )
now o2 computers are notorious for being slow - if they mention it " oh I know how you feel i work with them everyday in my office ", be sarcastic " isnt technology wonderful! " ( i usually hear it and do respond with same answer everytime I call o2 ) ....build a rapport with Micheal NOT " the o2 employee " like you would do with a man or woman you just met in a pub you would like your wicked way with!!
Does it work?
Dam right! lost count of the people i got on DIS 500/750
Maybe cos o2 treat there staff like !!!!, you make an effort with them, you'll get it straight backIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -

Brilliant Post0 -
Do o2 contact their customers before their contract is up or is it up to the customer to sort this out?0
-
up to the customer, you will hear nothing from them0

hmm i have to say i like O2 but sometimes they really frustrate me
After i eventually got my new fone (motorola V3x) sorted and new contract i thought it was all fine...until the next day when i was disconnected, apparently i requested that. So i call up to get reconnected and the guy has no details about my new tariff, so after a bit of a chat he fixed that and all was well. Bout 7 days later i call to see if my mobile had been dispatched and the woman said you motorola v3i will be on it way soon, hmmm thats not the fone i ordered.. systems have crashed again! must be a weekly thing as it always happens, so need to call back tomorrow.
On another note, i was getiting charged £80 instead of £160 for the V3x now if i didnt like it as i think it may be a bit bulky, would i be able to get the v3i for cheaper than £80 as it was going for £130 and im not sure if they would go down in price as my tariff is already sorted0 -

Chobra - last year the O2 Online50 tariff was reduced in price to £18.99 per month for 50 xnet mins and 500 texts. I would mention this to Retentions because you effectively paid at least £6 per month more than you should have!
I have just got an upgrade for my daughter (a W550i - not a top of the range phone - but what she wanted!), 100 xnet mins and 500 texts for £15 per month. I rarely spend over the tariff costs and have been with O2 online for 2 years (previously 5 years with O2 PAYG).
I told the operator I wanted to cancel as I needed more mins, and had been looking at a 3 tariff with 75 mins. She immediately offered me 100 mins, reduced tariff price and a new phone. I acted very surprised and grateful, thanked her profusely and my phone arrived 48 hours later."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
