O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

A big thank you to all who have posted on this thread - I just spent the last hour "Playing the Game" with o2 retention and now have a contract that gives me:
500 mins x net
200 texts
all for £19 per month
Plus I get a new phone ( latest models as well)
I was paying £45 for 400 mins and 100 texts so by subscribing and reading this thread I have saved at least £300 over the year in my first Money saving action!!!
I know its a bit intimidating for some people (me included) when holding out for a deal but you really have nothing to loose other than your need for an overdraft! Give it a go folks definately worth it!
Cheers folks - Have a fantastic New Year!

Hi All, this is my first post on money saving expert, I stumbled across it when i was looking for info on google about haggling over renewing my mobile contract!
I have been with o2 for a year, and as I wasn't tied with them anymore I was looking for a new phone, perhaps a better tariff too. I called o2 the other day and mentioned it was the end of my contract and was looking to upgrade my phone, I had my heart set on the Sony Ericsson K600i as my friend has it and I quite like it. Anyway I was told that to upgrade to that handset I would need to pay £79.99!!!! Couldn't believe it (my friend got a free upgrade of this phone on orange)! Anyway, after that I googled and found this site, found the thread and saw that I could easily make them beg me to stay with them.
Anyway, currently I am on the online 50 tariff from last dec (50 xnet mins and 500 texts) which always does me fine very rarely go over the tariff cost in extra charges. I am a texter not a talker really! That costs £19 a month.
Now As suggested on here I decided to look around for similar deals with other networks to then go back to o2 with and threaten to cancel. I found the Online 675 tariff with 3 (three) - £20 a month, 75 xnet mins and 600 texts (1200 for first 3 months on 12 month contract), the phone I wanted k600i was £39.99 if you selected the 12 month tariff, and free on the 18 month tariff.
So today I called o2 and asked to talk to someone about cancelling my contract, got put through, told the girl that I wasn't happy I was getting charged £79.99 if I upgrade to this particular phone and sign up another year when I could go else and get it for free on a similar tariff. I then told her about the 3 online 675 deal and told a little lie that the phone was free on the 12 month tariff (costs £39.99 really).
Anyway, she went away, came back and said they could lower my tariff to £14 a month (from £19), and the lowest they could do on the phone was £29.99
I was quite pleased with this as it would certainly be a better deal than moving elsewhere, but I didn't make this known, obviously trying to get more out of it. Anyway after a while I could tell that was their best offer, its not like I am a heavy user and only been with them for a year so they weren't going to go crazy on discounts! So I decided to agree to that!
To compare:
Current/Original Tariff
O2 Online 50
Line Rental = £19 x 12months = £228
New Tariff
Line Rental = £14 x 12 months = £168 + £29.99 k600i phone = £197.99
Saving £30 and getting a new phone!
What it would of been if I did move to three
Line rental = £20 x 12 months = £240 + £39.99 phone = £279.99
Would have cost me £82 more than my new deal with o2!
Also I wouldn't have moved to 3 anyway as other friends are on 3 and the reception is awful, and they get 'network busy' a lot!
So I have done well I reckon considering the short time with o2 and being a light user. Even get a Bluetooth headset (worth £50 apparently) with the new phone too.
So thanks the Matrix999 and all the other members here that encouraged me to try and get a better deal, really appreciate it!
Cheers and have a happy new year

Your Welcome!!0 -
hi there,
i have had many problems with my account with me having to phone up nearly daily to sort things out. why would the compnay have to give me compensation, eg 1 month free line rentla. are they just doing this out of the goodness of their heart?
many thanks0 -
Just negotiated 500 anytime any network minutes and 200 texts (can be rolled over for 3 months) for £15. Am really satisfied with this so sincere thanks to you all
Best wishes

Im not very good at the negotiation thing so i was hoping someone could suggested something to say.
My current contract is:
50 anytime mins 500 txts - £18.99 per month
(nokia 6600)
Im looking to get the Motorola V3x, i have been quoted a handset price of £160 which is a bit much. The only other contract i can see so far is vodafone
125 Anytime mins 250 txts - £20 per month
handset £80.00
i told the customer service woman this and she said she wouldnt be able to give me anything like that and offered me a NEC phone for £20 upgrade which was a bit of a kick in the teeth!(apologies to anyone who has this:))
anyway any ideas would be great
** Success!! got Motorola V3x 100 mins, 500 texts for £15 per month0 -
The_Dark_Side wrote:my contract with O2 is up today.
it's the online 200 tariff with 200 xnet anytime mins+500 texts for £30/month.
my monthly bills from Aug this year have all been around £80-£85...so i'm looking at you guys to help me out here.
i rarely go over the 200 minute allowance, but my text messaging is in the region of 750-850/month.
a small allowance of GRPS data would be handy too.
whether there is a tariff i don't know about or if you lot can come up with one featuring bolt ons i don't know.
any help much appreciated.
I was paying £45 a month for 400 anytime minutes and 1000 texts - rang up moaning and could have 600 off-peak and 1000 texts for £20 or 300 anytime and 1000 texts for £25 - rarely use the minutes (yeah I know daft of me not to!) but needed anytime so £25 a month it isThese were "sim only" contracts even though I had phone off them last year
They were prepared to also offer cashback but this would lock me into deal for 12 months - I just wanted to reduce monthly bill initially and would then research new phone etc later so didn't bother with cash back just yet0 -
Currently have a V3 that was due for upgrade some 3 months ago! why is it that O2 never contact you to offer you an upgrade and it is you the customer who has to do the chasing!!!
Anyway, top n bottom of it is....BOTH wife and I have got the O2 anytime 200 online deal with 500 inclusive texts per month for £30 each!!
I would like to upgrade my phone to the Samsung i300
Where is the best deal to be made on this?
O2 have offered me the phone on an upgrade for £99.99 staying with the same tarriff
Seems a cheek to me
Any advice??
cheers

Well, i tried O2 again, and managed to get a much better deal....
New, free, W800i, 200 anytime anyone minutes and 500 texts per month for £15 per month. On a 12 month contract.
Saving me £15 per month over my online tariff, and a new phone!!
Cheers Guys for the good work!!Is the glass half full, or half empty??0 -
Just got the 500 minutes for £23.50 deal on my pay as you go phone. The guy said he didn't know what I was talking about at first, but didn't really put much effort in to denying the tariff existed, and quite happily applied it to my sim card0
