O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

Bit of advice required folks.
Current o2 contract is O2 Online 200,which gives me 200 xnet/anytime mins plus 500 texts, currently costs £30 a month. At the start of my contract i was on the Online 50 tariff (£19)but found bill was averaging £35 so i upgraded to Online 200 halfway through contract.
My 12 month contract is up on the 8th march, when is the best time to call retentions?
And would it be realistic to try to get the same minutes /texts for £20 of the retentions dept?
Oh yeah and a new d600!!
your advice will be much appreciated. Thanks stevie0 -
I would give them a ring at the start of Feb, and tell them you want to cancel, then see what you get back.
I done the same for my 2nd year with 02, I was on 1000 mins off peak 50 texts £19. Took me 3 phone calls to get a free sammy D500 and a bluetooth headset, 750 mins anytime any network for £15.00 a month. That was june last year, so the sam D500 was not that old.0 -
Hi guys hope you can help me out! My problem is that i went on the Online 500 tariff for £25 month last year and my contract has now ended. I contacted O2 as i wanted to stay on this tariff but just get an upgrade to the Samsung d600 - no chance! they would not budge at all. I have had a look around and can not see any tariff that comes close to or beats this online 500 deal (500 mins & 400 texts), so what can i say to try and get this phone for free?0

The first person you get through to will not be able to do anything for you. Tell them to put you through to the cancelation dept, tell them what you want and you don't want to cancel but you have been offered a good deal somewhere else. You might even have to ring them a few times as I did, but I got what I wanted in the end.0

Ok just spoke to them and they said the best they could offer me was the Samsung d600 for £69.99 and a lower contract of £15/month for 200 mins 500 texts. They said there was NO WAY of getting the d600 for free and gave me my PAC code. I think its because im already on the promotional online 500 tariff. Guess im out of luck!0

ask them, if you take out an insurance policy will they give you the phone free?.
If they will, when you get the insurance just cancel it as you have 7/14 days to do so.0 -
The first guy in the retentions dept wouldnt budge. W8001 for £40 and £24 per month - 200 mins/500 texts.
Called back one week later armed with a clearance deal seen on Carphone warehouse. W800i (reconditioned!!) with Virgin mobile. £10 per month for 9 months, £30 for the remaining 3 months. Tarriff was 200 mins only, no texts.
They took the figures and returned with free phone, and £15 per month for 12 months.... result!!
Had only been on the sim only online tariff for 5 months. Is the glass half full, or half empty??0 -

My understanding is that you will stay on the Discount 500 tariff after your 12 months contract is up but you will pay full price for the tariff which is £25 per month for Discount 500 and £35 per month for Discount 750. The 400 texts message are a 12 months free promotional offer, so they may be removed.
As has been mentioned above, call the Retentions Team and tell them you've seen an offer with 3 or some other mobile company offering a deal like this and if you can't match it then i'll be off to them with your business.
Keep the thread up to date with how you get on as this will assist others0
