Just renewed my O2 contract with CPW for 24 months.
Was on £25 per month 200 mins, 200 texts.
Monthly bill has been cut to £20 for the same deal with £100 chequeback upfront. Now think I've been a bit hasty.
Quite happy with my current phone so asked about O2 Simplicity.
Told it would only be £15 for 200 / 200 but wouldn't get the cash back.
Now I think I've been reeled in for the sake of a £100 chequeback that may never materialise.
He said I've got 7 days to change my mind.
If I phone O2 CPW could I cancel this renewal and go on Simplicity when I'm out of contract?
I'd only have to give 30 days notice then for a handset upgrade. (O2 CPW said that there are system problems preventing customers from doing this, but suppose he would say that to ensnare me for 24 months)
I hope it's not too late to change my mind after all 2 years is a long time in the mobile phone industry...
whoa!!!
that is a rubbish deal
cpw o2 offered me (which i accepted) just a sim card (simplicity but a 12 month contract)
with 600 mins 500 texts
£10 a month
(really £30 a month but a £360 credit instantly added to my account, has been added already)0 -
Agree with the above posts. I've spent the best part of today trying to cancel this rubbish upgrade on my account.
I've gone through 3 different retentions depts and was told that only Outbound Retentions can cancel it.
As I've said on other forums, I cannot understand why a firm the size of O2 CPW only has one person in the UK that can cancel my contract upgrade eg. the person who signed me up to it!
There is a note on my account of my request, but just told to expect a call within 48 hours. Ridiculous when I only get 7 days to cancel it.
Also other CPW advisers have said that for 24 month SIM only contracts, they are offering free lap tops.
Should never have accepted the above deal and have emailed O2 CPW throught their web site asking for written confirmation of the cancellation.
A valuable lesson learned to do the research before jumping in and upgrading!
All I want is a SIM only deal for 12months with some data browsing thrown in. Hopefully can cancel and the go on Simplicity in mid Jan when I'm out of contract.0 -
Well, I just phoned them, intending to cancel and move over to the Virgin sim only £10 deal 300/300.
With what they offered me I'm in two minds now.
I was offered 150 minutes and 100 texts sim only, but with £180 credit on a 12 mth contract. Apparently, if I don't upgrade at month 11 of this proposed deal it will cost me £60 for the year, so £5 per month. If I do upgrade it will work out at under £4 per month.
Cheaper than the Virgin deal, but it seems I'll get shafted with O2 if I cancel within the 12 months, and will end up paying the normal monthly cost for the duration of my subscription (£20 per month I think) which is something that doesn't happen with the Virgin deal.
Like Virgin, there is a rollover, but I don't think 150 minutes is enough. I told them that, but they had already increased them from 125 to 150. Personally, I like to have more minutes than I'll actually use, rather than have to constantly monitor my usage. I think O2 know I'll go over and that they'll make money back that way.
Ah well, think I'll move to Virgin. More minutes and texts and a simple tenner a month and the option to cancel within 30 days without any form of penalty. Hopefully I can port my O2 number over to it.
I hope my rambling thought processes have benefited some of you. This post helped me work out my decision.

I called O2 last w/end as my current contract is coming up for renewal and was offered various deals.
However, the mobile I want, SE W960i, is not out until Jan/Feb 2008 so the chap at O2 suggested I move to a Simplicity tariff for a few months until the phone is released and then call back to strike an upgrade deal just as I would be able to now. i.e. I would be treated in just the same way.
However, I am not sure I would be given the same treatment and suspect they would view me as a PAYG customer.
Does anyone have any experience of temporarily changing to a Simplicity tariff and then upgrading back to a Pay Monthly tariff.
If so, how were you treated by O2 when negotiating the upgrade?
Did you get a good deal?0 -
Cashbash, I very much doubt you would be seen as favouably by retentions if you were to opt for simplicity until Jan, and then try your hand at a reduced plan (dont quote me on that, I work in retail, not retentions and therefore have no hand in their deals at all) I am simply speaking from experience. As far as we are concerned, if you are to be offered any sort of retention deal, it will usually be on par with other networks offerings if only slightly better, and rarely do they match with 3 eg their £15 deal with a phone as at the end of the day, 3 cannot match 02 on coverage etc unless you happen to live in Manchester or London! im not plugging 02 cause i work for them, hell I was on 3 last year as they beat 02, but their service and coverage was shocking so I cancelled, its true what they say, you get what you pay for.

I changed to a simplicity last month, and phoned today for my PAC code; thinking the same as you.
He offered me:
LG Viewty
600mins anytime
unlimited texts
£25 per month (18month)
Is this about the best I can expect to get? I did ask him if it could be nearer £20, and he just said 'no'0 -

Doesn't 3 piggyback off O2's 2G service now, so coverage should now be on a parr with O2? (I know that hasn't always been the case though!)0 -
Upgrade due next month (been with o2 for 6 years) and am currently on since Sept 05:
750 mins
750 txts
Rollover mins
1 MB data
(free Nokia N80) - 18 months
Price per month £15
(Was £20 per month but threatened to cancel 4 months ago when o2 changed terms and conditions re 0870 charging - so credited account to average £15 p/m)
Im now hoping they at least match this offer as I want a free N95 8GB (coming to o2 in Janaury i hear) or a Nokia N82 and free o2 to o2..
Mabye im asking 'O 2'much??

Indeed 3 used to piggyback on 02's 2G service, and that task has now fallen to Orange. The problem comes when you change from 3's 3G service over to Orange's 2G. You get dropped calls, that coupled with the shocking service offered by 3 customer care.CC limits £26000
