O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

Hi all,
This is my first post here. I've been with 02 nearly 3 years and am due an upgrade. I'm wondering whether to stay with them because networks like t-mobile seem to offer much more discounts to continuing customers.
They are offering me 600 anytime mins with long weekends and 500 tests for £28 per month. Initially they offered me a lot less for £35 per month but when i argued that i could get the same thing in the shops they lowered it but only slightly. The tariff they've offered is meant to be £35 pm so it is a 20% discount, but should i just consider a network that seems to be more eager to hold on to their customers? I have phoned 3 or 4 times and o2 really don't seem to give a damn....
The mins are fine, but i don't need as many texts as that but they said that was the package and they couldn't change it. I was thinking about flext from t-mobile, but typically the £35 tariff offers too much and the £30 not enough in terms of minutes!
Grateful for advice/opinions

Tell them you have been looking at the Three prices:
£15 per month
250 mins and 50 text
or 75 mins and 600 text
£20 per month
500 mins and 100 text
or 100 mins and 1000 text
All of these are offered with decent new phones.0 -
Tried to upgrade on O2 for N95 and they would not give me anything better than free phone for £50 pcm and 1MB data included. They also insisted that I could not keep my old retention tariff even if I took basic phone etc. and that my monthly bill was due to double. Spoke to manager etc. but they would not budge so I have moved to 3 which gives me more inclusive minutes, lower monthly rental and the ability to get 1GB fair usage surfing and Skype for £5 pcm on top. Discussed all this with O2 and they didn't seem to care if I left ... very different attitude to a year ago when they seemed to be interested in avoiding churn."I hear and I forget. Would you mind telling me what you said to get that deal again?? I have the same deal at present but I'm worried they are going to tell me I have to pay £35 now. If so I will be cancelling.
Also. My 1st year ended at the end of sept. But I upgraded at end of august. So does my 2nd year end at the end of august when I got my upgrade or at end of september when the original contract end date is?
How very confusing.
I will probably cancel anyway as I want the iphone and won't be out at end of sept. Plus it will be very unlikely for them to giveme £20 for 500 mins, 500 texts, and a sparkly new iphone even if it is on preorder.
hey, to get this deal i just rang and asked. The first lady said she could keep me on 500/500 for £30/month so i said i'd think about it then i rung back immediately and the second guy said i could stay on it @ £20/month. I did quote some cashback offers to them to let them know i know what i was on about e.g. k800i 10months free on 12 month contract.
also if you upgraded in august last year you can upgrade a month before that this year. you sign for another 12 months when your phone arrives so july would be your 11th month0 -
After reading the comments on this forum, I rang up and cancelled my contract. Going to pay and go until the iphone comes out. BUT.
My contract start date 2 years ago was 24th sep. Fair enough, I upgraded earlier in august for the 2nd year, but how come they have cancelled my account and given me a PAC code already?? I thought when I rang up with the PAC code to pay and go they would say it would be transferred over on 24th sep, but he did it there and then...
Hmm.. I'm suspicious. How was I able to cancel early? I hope they don't charge me for the next month!!
I also kinda wish I'd asked if I could have stayed for £20 a month. The answer probably would have been no, but at least I'd have tried.0 -
Was offered a £30 per month tariff for 200 mins/200 text with 11 months repayable via cashback for a new 12 months contract (no phone). Total cost for the year £30.
I foolishly agreed to this on the phone last Friday to O2. Reading this thread other people have got 12 months in a cash credit which means no worries of returning bills.
I now decided to go for a new cashback deal which will give me a free phone for a similar total cost.
The question is can I get out of the deal I agreed to on the phone? Do i have 7 days to cancel?
I just phoned O2 to try and cancel my sim upgrade and they said it was not possible as sim upgrades can not be cancelled!
Is this really the case?0 -

There should be a cooling off period of say 7-14 days, however they do seem to keep changing the goalposts regularly (for instance Imode ceases to exist in September after assurances that they would stick with 3G services for the long term), so it could be the case that indeed you can't get out of it.
That is what I had assumed. They claimed that as the upgrade was "sim only" with no new handset, then the 7 day cooling off period did not apply as I did not actually receive any physical item (ie a phone).
This doesn't seem correct to me...0 -
I have just requested my PAC from O2, was with them for over 2 years but they cant now match any data tariffs, my data cost alone was over £42 last month and that was with bolt on's!!!!!! Have just signed up to T-Mobile on web and walk, O2's loss, they need to sort out their data pricing (even the girl in retentions said the same).0
