Realised my 12 months was up so spent last weekend traipsing round the various network shops, but let's just say I didn't exactly see 'value for money' jumping out at me, so I turned my attention online...
After exhaustive research, trawling the net for the best deals, I thought I'd found the one for me - dialaphone had a free Nokia 6300 on T-mobile flext 25 for £10/month on a 12 month contract! Briiliant!
I was spending £35/month with O2 and never using anywhere near my allowance so reducing my monthly outlay was top of my list. Then a colleague mentioned they'd called O2 at christmas when her contract was up and when she threatened to leave they gave her the discount 500 tariff for £20/month. Needless to say I was straight on the phone, but unfortunately my experience was a little different....
After the initial bog standard customer service monkey disinterestedly dragged me through my options I rejected each one point blank before asking for my PAC number - this prompted the reaction I'd been waiting for 'just hold whilst I transfer you...'
And so to retention. Not what I'd expected - yet another monkey (anal retention?) who would not budge an inch - merely repeating that having 'analysed' my usage the best tariff for me would be 125mins and 50 texts on 12 months for £25... well thank you very much. After well over £900 over the last 2 years, I was a little taken aback, so I asked for my PAC which she GLADLY said would be sent by text within 24 hours and then she ended the call in the blink of an eye! Not happy.
Thought I'd give it one more try today, just to see if they could improve on their offer before I defected to T-mobile. This time I called 0845 6060 618 (not the 08700) and went straight through to retentions and spoke with a much nicer guy. I told him about Dialaphone's T-mobile offer which he admitted he couldn't match, but asked if I realised the offer was by redemption to which I replied 'yes, but 5 miutes of form filling and the cost of a stamp is a small price to pay'.
Anyway in the end we agreed on 200 mins 250 texts over 12 months, free 6300 for £20/month. Not the best deal compared with some in this thread, perhaps, but it's going to save me £180 a year so I'm happy enough!
If yougot this far, congratulation on reading my essay! It's my first post and I'd like to thank everybody else who contributed to it, it's all valuable advice!0 -
Hello all,
Both my wife and I have just started the 11th month of our first 12 month contracts. We were both on the O2 250 +100 tariff (250 minutes and 100 texts) and wife also purchased a bolt on of 100 extra texts for £5. A few months ago I also had an extra 100 mins pm and wife 100 texts pm with O2 treats.
I have analysed our usage over the last 10 months and have come up with the following average monthly figure:
Me - 210 mins, 35 texts
Wife - 100 minutes, 180 texts
These contracts are coming to an end/renewal and we would both like new phones (current ones would sell for approx £75+ combined, on Ebay).
Neither of us would particularly go for a top-end media player type phone but want the replacements to have a half decent camera and a few connectivity options. I would like something quite stylish (possibly a Prada) and the wife wants a nice girly phone (currently has a pink Nokia 6111).
We are almost sure we need to stay with O2 as we have experienced poor coverage from Orange and T-Mobile (can’t speak for the other networks) in the past here in Pontypridd, S Wales and the coverage with O2, to be fair, has been superb.
I’ve been mooching on this forum trying to see what I can push retentions for when the time comes, however some recommendations for phones (especially those they may offer for free) would be appreciated as well as tariff advice.
My current contracts were purchased from Mobileshop (everything free for 12 months) so I am trying to limit what we may have to spend in the coming year as much as is humanly possible as, quite frankly, I’m a tightwad.
Thanks in advance,
L
PS - I'd also like to be able to access my ISP emails. Not essential but nice to have.0 -
I'm still on an old Genie sim only tariff - £10/month for 100 anytime mins (o2 or landline) unlimited text and unlimited WAP (via gsm only, no gprs). Been paying for about seven years now; hardly ever go over £12..
I'm not a heavy user; rarely go near my minutes - I use the wap more (but only because it's so slow!!) and don't text much these days.
Given I'm not paying that much, is it worth my trying for a deal off retentions? I'm more interested in getting a cheap price on a new phone than changing the tariff.. (Quite fancy something like a nokia n95, because it has all my wishlist of features on it, despite it being a nokia.. )
Cheers,

I was on o2 200 mins with 500 texts for £15 p/m (half price deal). I usually text about 350 and speak about 150.
Called to renew a couple of days ago and they would only offer me 100 mins and 200 texts for £15 or 100 mins and 300 texts for £20. Both were 18 month contracts and with the £15 one I'd have to pay £190 for an SE880i. With both being different tariffs to my existing one, I'd also lose the facility of 08 numbers being available within my inclusive mins.
Called today and basically got a renewal of my contract - 200 mins and 500 texts on a 12 month contract for £15 per month! As my tariff hasn't changed, my 08 calls will be part of my inclusive calls. The rub? - I had to take the SE610i. The only difference from the 880i is that it comes with a 512MB memory card, rather than the 1GB card which comes with the 880i. I even got the free speakers gift.
Happy? - I'll say!!! :beer:0 -
Posters on other forums are saying that o2 are currently offering excellent retentions sim only tariffs (e.g. 3000 any time mins, 3000 texts, for £35/month).
Can anybody confirm these offers exist?0 -

what have you got on a 12 month contract? There are a few 12 month free line rental deals around... do you think they can give me 12 months worth of credit if I renew my contract without a mobile?0

Hi
I currently have 2 contracts out with O2 and one is due for renewal. I'm normally quite a good haggler...
12 Month Contract 1: Running 3 yrs, Nokia N80 for £90, 500/500 anytime any network rollover for £20
12 Month Contract 2: Running 8 Months after upgrade from sim only, K800i free, 900/1000 anytime any network for £20
Today when I phoned to upgrade to the N95 the upgrade team had no quams about letting me cancel my contract and would have happily let me go ahead and cancel. Maybe the retention team will do better but the upgrade team have simply offered me the current online deal for new customers.
I don't want a better deal, as I am more than happy with the ones I have, and I'm prepared to pay for the upgrade price for the N95. I'm wondering what the sudden change in heart for O2 is all about? This time last year they were practically begging me to stay, this year they're more than happy for me to sling my hook.
Is the current retention team giving any deals near to what I have? The loyalty scheme has went to s h i t . I've been getting O2 treats for as long as I remember. To quote the drivvel on their site for being a loyal customer you get :
"
Get the same phones and tariffs as new customers when you upgrade
Plus something extra
Remember those happy days when you got your new mobile, with an amazing new tariff? Well now with O2 the honeymoon period never has to end. As an existing customer, we’ll keep offering you the same great deals on handsets and tariffs that new customers get, as well as O2 Treats every month. It’s all because we reward loyalty.
"
That is laughable.

Can anyone help?
I am currently on a 12 month O2 online tariff, where I get 100 mins and i think 400 or 500 texts for £25 a month.
I have an average spend of around £28 a month and use about 70 mins and 200 texts a month. At the moment I have a SE K800i.
My contract runs out on 19th June, do you think O2 would be willing to drop my contract to £20 a month for the same tarriff and throw in a new SE K810i as well or is that asking too much???
Thanks for your help guys.
Well I took the plunge and called O2 once I was eligible for upgrade.
I'm quite happy as I reduced my monthly cost. I quoted the 3 tariff student prices for eveyone 100 mins and 1000 texts I think it is?
O2 came back after much persuasion with:
They replace my K800i black with a a K800i silver, 18month contract (as this is what 3 were offering so I accepted), 150 mins (100 mins was originally offered but 50% extra free deal at the moment o2 said without me even pushing), 750 texts(500 texts was originally offered but 50% extra free deal at the moment o2 said again without me even pushing), £20 per month (which is £5 less per month than before), £50 call credit voucher thrown in too.
Quite happy really!0
