O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

My contract also about to run out but I have no idea how to approach O2. Last year I got the latest nokia 3250 free of charge and £9 a month line rental for 12 months (50min/25txt all that I need) which was a pretty awsome deal. I am looking at upgrading to the n73 but I dont want to spend more than £60 on the phone and £15 per month. Any advice would be much appreciated.0

I think the trick is to:
1. Ensure you have done your research on the web before hand, have example deals available. and work out how much they cost over the contract period
2. Call O2, Ask for your PAC code as you are looking to move
3. When they put you through to retentions calmly explain that you want to move as you have seen some decent offers elsewhere.
4. Explain offers you have seen (be honest) wait for them to come back with their offer.
5. NEVER accept at the 1st attempt, say you want to think about it, and that you want to weigh up the cost of staying versus leaving, ask them to make a note of your conversation, then call back the following day
6. When you call back give them a final chance to keep you, tell them what you would like in order that they keep you as a customer, and if you are unhappy with their offer then simply request your PAC code and move.
I think the worst thing you can do is be rude, or obnoxious, at the end of the day they are less likely to give you a deal if you are.......you have to ask yourselves how would you react if you were the operator?? I certainly would save my better deals for people who were open, honest about their intentions, but NOT rude.
Hope this helps0 -
Today i rang o2. I have been with them for 5 years. I asked to cancel and i was offered 300 off peak mins, 500 text, 12 month contract = £15 a month. Plus free Sony K800i, I did enquire about the 810i but that was going to be £49.99 and she wouldnt budge on that. Seemed reasonable deal so i accppted,Am i here to save money or spend money......hmmmmm0

I've been with O2 for 5 or 6 years, last year I rang through to rententions for the first time and managed to get 500 off peak mins & 500 texts for £10 a month (+ W810i for £49.99).
I really want to the n95 but since O2 don't offer any decent data tarriff I called for my PAC, saying I wanted to go to t-mobile to use their web'n'walk deals. Retentions offered me a few standard website deals, and tryed to tell me that 20MB was an awful lot of data and I wouldn't need any more.... but they wouldn't budge, no offer at all so I got my PAC code and will be off to t-mobile or maybe Orange when the new data tarriffs come out next month
Poor show from O2.0 -
Been with O2 for a year (second time in 10) on a cashback deal with phones2Udirect. Their cash back service is terrible (90+ days before getting cheque - still waiting for the last one from Feb!) so went to the O2 shop to see what they could offer directly. They said I was a good customer mainly because of using the phone abroad and having large bills (networks rip you off abroad.)
Only phone I like was the SE880 and I could have it free on any tariff but said I would think about it. They told me to call retentions so I did.
Told them I was thinking of going on P&YG as I only really use the phone abroad and it is all a rip off so they offered me £24/mnth for 200 xnet mins + text and the SE 880 for free - wasn't happy with this as I don't mind my existing phone (MOTO L6) so they offered me same tariff at £15/mth + £100 credit on my account and the ITS (£2.99 mnth - reduces calls abroad) for free on a 12mnth contract. Was quite happy with that - but would still like the 880!0 -
I really want the Nokia N95, but when I spoke to them yesterday they said they were not able to adjust the price of the phone, only the tariffs - this doesn't seem right looking through some of the posts on this thread. I'm prepared to pay more a month with them, but think they should reduce the handset price as an incentive to stay - for £35 a month, I can get the same price for the handset, a better tariff and £100 credit with Orange.
Any advice on how to approach O2 Retentions and get a decent deal?
I thought I'd let you know how I got on. I spoke to three different people at O2 Retentions today and was only offered the same deal as a new customer. For the same money, I could get more from Orange plus £100 credit too - because as I wanted the N95 they wouldn't budge unfortunatly.
So, I've requested my PAC code and I've brought a deal on Orange. Only concern is they couldn't give the code straightaway (they used to in the past?) and said it would be sent in a text in the next couple of days and in writing too. Is this normal?0 -
from previous experience, this is normal. it take sup to 72 hours for the PAC to be issued. (you will get a text, followed by a confirmation int he post some days later);)
However, experience also tells me that its better to give them a nudge every other day. I requested for my PAC sometime in March. A lady said it will take 72 hours..waited for 4 days, before i decided to call again. Some bloke told me that, on their system, no PAC was requested to be issued. Apparently, the rententions team made me an offer, and i 'told them that i will think about it'. (there was no such thing, as i wanted my PAC, and declined all offers made.)
I didnt take the name of the bird whom i spoke to and created the story, but i did ask the bloke to put a request for PAC again. he transferred me to his colleague, and another bloke told me that it's done, and that i will get the code soon. waited for another 5 days, still no code, and i was fuming mad.
Called 02 again, and same story. (i told them that i will be considering their crappy deal). so, asked to speak to the team leader, requested the PAS code again, AND told them to send a confirmation by email that my request has been put thru. Then, i emailed 02 CS online, and headed the e-mail as "request for pac for for mobile number 078XXXXXXXX," with the body:
This is an official request for my PAC. I am not considering, and will not consider any offers made to me by 02. i want my PAC code, and trust that this request will be processed within 72 hours. (a bit harsh, but i was very very irritated with them:o )
4 hours later,..RESULT:....PAC code sent via text!0 -
my advice: chase them up every 24 hours.0

I rang up retentions on Monday as I'm in the last month of my contract. For the last 2 years I have been on the Discount 750 plan (750 anytime, any network mins and 100 texts, usually £35 per month but £17.50 per month for 12 months).
I was immediately offered 800mins and 1000texts for £20 per month for the entire duration of an 18 month contract. Apparently it's usually £40 per month.
I said I'd think about it and had a look on their website. Sure enough the tariff is listed on there. They call it the 'online 40'
Prior to ringing them I'd been following this thread closely over the last month or so and having read so many stories from people who have been offered terrible deals I was pleasantly surprised with what I was offered.0 -
You've done very well then there Taggy. I wasn't quite so lucky.....
After having been with O2 for 11 years now (When they used to be Cellnet, then BT Cellnet) I am disgusted that they offered me no incentive at all to keep me. Nothing. Zilch. B*gger all. Over the last 12 months I had been paying £15p/m on a £25p/m tariff, due to a loyalty discount last year. But this was only ever to be for 12 months. I knew that around this time I would have to re-negotiate with them. I was on a Leisure-time contract (1000 off peak minutes, 500 texts and 1Mb of web browsing). I would have preferred to have had some anytime minutes instead. With Virgin Mobile I have been offered 300 anytime, x-net minutes, and 300 texts all for £10 per month. But with them you dont get a phone, its sim-only. I didn't expect O2 to atch this deal as it's so good. All I did want though is 250 anytime, x-net minutes, and 250 texts and 1Mb of web browsing - for £20 p/m, and also the Sony Ericsson K810i for a discounted price. They offered me nothing. When I said I wanted to cancel, they just accepted it, no quibble. The phone I still have (SE w810i) is still in very good condition, and is still a great phone.
The online leisure 25 you mention with the 1000 off peak mins, 500 texts is what i'm on right now on a 12 month contract but im paying the new customer rate of £25/month rather than the offer you had of £15/month which in my view is actually really good.
Basically what i've noticed is that the tariffs change every 4 months and they don't get better they get worse!!
For instance I just looked the other day and the same tariff that I've got has only 750mins off peak/250 texts now for £25/month!! this is such a rip off! the fact they've introduced 18 month contracts over the past couple of years means they've got more ways to manipulate your contract.
o2 and every other network are talking crap when they say they've introduced new tariffs which are better or different offering similar benefits. this is absolute bullsh*t to be honest, as if you look right now on the o2 online website and looked 2 weeks ago the offers have all gotten worse either with half as many mins and texts or whatever on every single corresponding tariff available.
i remember 2 years ago you could get on just a 12 month contract 250mins/250 texts now even on an 18 month contract thats unheard of on any mobile network.
Things aren't getting cheaper only more expensive. my question is currently what is their current offers through retention. Are o2 offering discounted line rental of 20% or is it just mixture of more mins and texts for the same line rental you are currently paying?
I know that if you are an o2 select customer you get some of the best deals supposedly, ie free upgrade every 6 months (usually with free phone too) more mins more texts etc etc.. i assume its still a 18 month contract but you're entitled to a new phone every 6 months which isn't too bad but i don't know if thats still running.
Has anyone managed to get a crazy upgrade with o2 right now with like 1000mins anytime/500 texts plus long weekends for the entire year on a 12 month contract including line rental discount??
this seems like it be a stretch as I noticed most of the discounts they've offered from what ppl have been posting on this thread are based on what the current tariffs are showing on the o2 website (already crap as a starting point of reference given that the deals were better 2 weeks ago before the change) so you get swindled into thinking you're getting a good deal when you're not.
These 18 month contracts are a real rip off, you pay 50% extra line rental for a year and cannot upgrade to another phone until 18 months later. I think its disgusting how these networks, not only o2 seem to be squeezing us for our cash and nothing is being done about it.
so far I haven't seen any recent upgrade on here which has been that great and because there are so many permutations they can play with ie choice/price of phone, mins/texts, length of contract etc, its pretty hard to get a good deal on anything.
I personally feel you're only getting a good deal if for one you're getting a high range phone ie the n95 for free on a 12 month contract, paying £25/month (including discounted line rental from £35/month) and like 1000mins anytime/500 texts and long weekends all year.
Has anyone managed to get anything like this in their recent upgrades as i think that with the new tariffs coming in you would have been better off upgrading 2 weeks ago rather than now as the new tariffs for new customers are just plain awful.0
