  • They are geting better! The Retention team obviously know we want to haggle and they have become very good at not backing down! after half a dozen phone calls, i managed to get £10 line rental a month and the new W880i in silver! the other calls all tried charging me £129 for the phone and no line rental discount.
My advice is, keep calling and i think the people on the phone in the weekend are way nicer! (i just thought about it, and the last 3 times i have haggled its been on a weekend and DEFNTLY they just give in)

I suppose it depends on how much you want to stay with them though! I rang them, got no joy at all so I got my PAC and have now signed up on a very good deal with 3. I can't be bothered with ringing them up time and time again.

I rang yesterday - got put through to rententions. The woman was quite rude to be honest, wanted to know why I was leaving and said that I was looking to go to another network, as they were offering the N95 for a decent price and on a decent tariff. She then wanted all the details of the new offer, going on the websites herself to double check I was telling the truth. She didn't even try to get me to stay with them really, didn't offer me any incentive to remain with them. I spend £25 per month, occasionally going slightly over but not by much and have been with them for 5 years now. In a way, it suits me fine, cos they really annoyed me at upgrade time last year and to be quite honest took the p, it was only the fact that eventually after complaining that I got a good deal that I stayed with them.
Nice Shoes & Expensive Designer Handbags, are my downfall!

My 500 mins 500 tests deal was finishing, rang up to negotiate a deal, initially they offerred me:

    400 mins 500 texts £20 for 12 mth then £30 for 6 (18 mth contract) (with Nokia 6300)

Said I wanted to think about it.....

Called back the next day and they gave me:

400 mins 500 texts for £20 for full 18 mnths (18 mth contract) (with Nokia 6300)

Very happy with that, even though its not as good as the deal they gave me last year (£19 pmth for 12 mths) i think given how tight they are being it wasn't too bad?

You've done very well then there Taggy. I wasn't quite so lucky.....

After having been with O2 for 11 years now (When they used to be Cellnet, then BT Cellnet) I am disgusted that they offered me no incentive at all to keep me. Nothing. Zilch. B*gger all. Over the last 12 months I had been paying £15p/m on a £25p/m tariff, due to a loyalty discount last year. But this was only ever to be for 12 months. I knew that around this time I would have to re-negotiate with them. I was on a Leisure-time contract (1000 off peak minutes, 500 texts and 1Mb of web browsing). I would have preferred to have had some anytime minutes instead. With Virgin Mobile I have been offered 300 anytime, x-net minutes, and 300 texts all for £10 per month. But with them you dont get a phone, its sim-only. I didn't expect O2 to atch this deal as it's so good. All I did want though is 250 anytime, x-net minutes, and 250 texts and 1Mb of web browsing - for £20 p/m, and also the Sony Ericsson K810i for a discounted price. They offered me nothing. When I said I wanted to cancel, they just accepted it, no quibble. The phone I still have (SE w810i) is still in very good condition, and is still a great phone.

I was on 200 mins and 500 txts @ £15 per month, called yesterday to upgrade and the best offer they could do me was K810i for £49.99 200 mins and 400 txts for £25pm on an 18 month deal.

I said to the girls that was more of a downgrade than an upgrade!
Why the hell would i want to pay more money on a longer contract with less txts and have to pay for the phone as well?!

Phoned again today to see if i could speak to someone else who'd maybe offer me summit better, but still all they would offer are the deals that are on the website. Im gonna order a phone through virgin who are doing far better deals on 12 month contracts.

yeah o2 are really bad at the moment. They didnt even bother trying to keep my custom but instead when I said I was going to three they strated slagging it off saying theres big problems with three. Now I know this was the case in the early days but a number of friends and colleagues have gone with three since and the service has improved a lot.

Ive just got the nokia 6288 (mixed reviews but on the whole seems to be a good phone) on three £15 tariff. All through quidco as well.

Three should sue O2 staff for rubbishing their service.

You see the thing is that O2 dont just lose 1 customer they lose many because now my friends family and colleagues will leave O2 when there contracts are up, because of the way they have treated me.

Just to update on my deal. 2 posts ago ^ ^ ^ ^ I said they offered me nothing. Anyway, I decided to call again and see what I needed to do to cancel my contract. I got a really really nice woman on the phone called Rachel. I managed to get a deal that suited me, similar to yours makershaker. It is more than I wanted to pay, but I have now settled for 200 anytime xnet mins, 500 texts, and 1Mb web-browsing for £25 per month for 12 months and the Sony Ericsson K810i for £19.99. The same deal on their website is £30 p/m, so a saving of £5 p/m is reasonable. A bit happier now its all sorted - just shows what the nicer staff CAN do if they can be ar5ed.

So glad to hear it's not just me that o2 don't want to make an offer. After two phone calls (and that is enough) I will be requesting my PAC and moving to another network to get the deal and phone I want. Like most have said, they don't seem to care!

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to approach O2... I'm due to come to the end of my 18m online contract with them. I'm currently paying £25 for 150 anytime minutes and 500 texts a month.

I really want the Nokia N95, but when I spoke to them yesterday they said they were not able to adjust the price of the phone, only the tariffs - this doesn't seem right looking through some of the posts on this thread. I'm prepared to pay more a month with them, but think they should reduce the handset price as an incentive to stay - for £35 a month, I can get the same price for the handset, a better tariff and £100 credit with Orange.

Any advice on how to approach O2 Retentions and get a decent deal?
