Thanks macladd. Just got off the phone to O2. Received a call from someone acting on behalf of Peter Erskine. Transpires O2 never put the extra 300 mins on his account in the first place! Apparently to get it down to £25 they were adding and taking away different tariffs and the only one they could get to for £25 a month was Online Sim 200. However that didn't allow for more than 200 mins so hence we got slammed today with the huge bill - which incidentaly they will put a credit through tomorrow so we only pay £25.

To cut a long story short they are now putting him on an 18 month contract Online Talker 35 for £35 less £10 discount and given the extra 300 mins for the whole of the 12 month period. Although it will be shown as an 18 month contract it will in fact only be for 12 months PLUS she is putting all this down in an email to me so I have the true facts if there is any problem when the contract comes to an end! Happy ending - hopefully.

    Hi Lara,

Just saw that you had replied before I could finish my first reply!

Good to see that Peter Erskine's office has sorted things out for you!

    Kevin.

    Hi Matrix
I noticed you hadn't posted for a while. Hope you are well.

I think I should have negotiated the contract to extend for the full 18 months with 800 mins now! It is a good deal which is why I was so happy when I posted my negoitation triumph back in late November. At last it has been sorted out but I shall not count my chickens until I receive the email tomorrow.
Incidentally the number I had to ring (they rang whilst I was out walking my dog) was the one you posted above.

i've just spoken to o2 retentions and tried in vain to get a similar deal to you. they were adamant that this deal was a mistake and they would never offer it. best deal i could get was a free w880i, 500xmins and 200 txt for £25 a month or a free k610i + bluetooth carkit, 500xmins and 200 txt for £20 a month both 12 months contract.

macladd - are you 100% positive about your deal?

How good a deal they offer depends on each customer's case - how long they've been with O2 and their monthly usage. I'd been with them four years and had monthly bills of £40-60 (by sailing over my free texts) when I managed to get down to a £15 a month retention deal.

Also bear in mind different deals are offered for online and non-online customers. Why anyone uses O2 non-online is beyond me.

July to November 2004, O2 system problems meant I didn't pay my bills (they just didn't take my money). I saved the money up in my bank account, and in November got an email to say that as a goodwill gesture they would cancel my bills for those months. It had been a period of massive usage for me and they wiped off over £300. When they're good, they're good. :D

Worth a try, but I think they might tell you to go sign up online.

They have separate customer service numbers for online and non-online customers. Online tariffs from the O2 site aren't available in O2 stores. It's almost like they're two separate businesses.

If you're an online customer you have to receive your bills by email, I don't think there's an option to have paper. Aside from that and the different customer service number, there's no difference in terms of service quality that I know of.
