  • Finally! It took me 3 calls in the last 2 weeks to get what I wanted, but basically have settled on:

    18 month contract
£35 per month (nominal) for 600 mins and 500 texts
    £250 automatic cashback (£125 month 5 and £125 month 16)
    Free phone (SE W850i)

Therefore this basically works out at about £21 per month after the cashback! And without all these irritating bill-sending cashback offers. Not bad at all.

I think they must have a record on their system of how many times you have phoned to discuss an upgrade, as they seem to automatically come up with a better offer each time you call. (There must a limit though obviously - I suspect this would be 3 calls).

EDIT: By the way, if you are signifcantly changing your minutes or texts when upgrading, don't forget that the change does not necessarily happen immediately, as it depends on the billing cycle - I have to wait 2 weeks for my extra mins / texts.

Could someone give me the number for Online Retentions please? Preferably an 0800 number if there is one.
  • I have a few quick questions not covered recently in the thread:

    1) Is it better to go through to cancel the contract option instead of upgrade for a better deal?
Even if just to enquire how long it takes to cancel/get the PAC etc so they can't call your bluff?

    2) Someone mentioned that the log every call to either department, but has anyone had any success past 3 calls (which seems to be the tipping point)?

    3) Has anyone managed to get the free voicemail, rollover minutes attached that are only for more expensive tarriffs?

    Thanks!

    4th call over 6 weeks.

Keeping my discount 500 tarrif but losing the £10 discount so going to £25pm
    Free k800I and 500 texts.

Happy enough in the end, 12 month contract.
  • Spent the best part of an hour on the phone and the guy would NOT budge from the online tarriffs with a £5 discount.

    K800i Silver (Out of stock)
    12 Months contract
    250 Minutes
    500 Texts

How are people getting offered this for £20? I would take that in a second, nevermind the £15 deal. I literally told the guy I would take it there and then.

How are people getting offered 500 mins/texts for tuppance?

Should I move to an 18month and see if they shift out of the set patterns?

The guy has got so much to work with to 'buy' the phone through my contract AND it's over 12 months average, not 6 as quoted here previously (so he told me!).

Maybes a 3rd call will trigger it. Again can I ask- is going to cancel or upgrade the best option or no different?

There systems are new and they can only offer you deal the pc tells them, the three network thing doesnt work, they know of all the deals three offer. Last year got 500 xnet and 200 texts for £15pm with new nokia n70, cool deal. This year have to pay £59.99 for phone, get 500 xnet and 400 texts for £25pm, crap deal I say. Gonna ring every few days and see what they offer. O also note there system notes all the times you call up and logs the quotes you have had.
    Kind Regards
    Bill

If last years deal was good for you have you asked if you can stay on it? I am on a good tariff for me, 200 anytime anynetwork mins and 500 texts. I called and asked if they could better the deal, i.e more mins but for the same money but all she could offer was to up the mins to 500 for an extra £5 per month. I didn't want to pay anymore than I am so I just asked if I could stay on the same tariff as last year. She said no problem at all.

just called up, was offered basically online 200 for 25 quid a month, mentioned that i was already on that tariff for 15 a month and she went away and came back matching that, which I didn't want to go with, I was after spending less.

so they do still have some flexibility, regardless of what the computer tells them it seems.
  • ARGH! I don't know what to do now. I'm really worried I'll get turned down for a credit check so am slightly keener to stick with 02 regardless.

I'm wanting a 12 month contract so I can basically get a new phone (and sell it on potentially) rather than having minutes I won't use.

They can't offer me stuff like free voicemail unless I take the stringent contract. If they've changed the system I guess the best I can get is £5 off a tarriff. Depressing that I could have got so much more for my haggling last month.
